    Re: Recap question?

I wouldn't worry about it. As long as it does run and doesn't overheat. Does the board support temperature controlling?
I love putting bad caps and flat batteries in fire and watching them explode!!

No wonder it doesn't work! You installed the jumper wires backwards

      Re: Recap question?

It doesn't support anything at the moment,(but I will check to see if it does)I put a brand new 1Tb unformatted HDD in and a few sticks of memory 2Gb to try it out. This is a new boot HDD because the old one failed, probably because of the capacitors failing? Isn't, the bios supposed to come up without the O/S installed? What I'm getting now is nothing on the monitor whilst madly clicking f10, f8, f2,but no bios is happening, I have the recovery disks for it but don't I have to format the hard drive first? Oh I nearly forgot, when I turned the computer off at the front switch it wouldn't turn on again so I swapped the PS out for another PS and it did the same .Then I found if I left it for a while it would start up again?

        Re: Recap question?

I just looked up that model number. It looks like an Acer Aspire motherboard. If so, then it definitely does temperature control the fans, which would explain the delay.

No. Bad motherboard caps shouldn't kill the HDD

        Yes, it should

That means that the board isn't POSTing. No key is gonna make it POST if there is a problem.

No. The recovery will format it

That motherboard must have another problem. Exactly what, I don't know.

If the board isn't POSTing (ie, nothing on screen), the recovery disks aren't gonna work.

Yes I found that out.Looks like some more recapping coming up,any suggestions on were I should start? What I get on screen is a black screen for about half a second and then it has PC letters on the bottom of the screen for another few secs then no signal pops up.

                Re: Recap question?

If mb is too much overclocked or otherwise tampered it might not boot at all. Solution is to clear cmos. Some boards have a jumper for this, others have just two small solder dots, which must be connected for a few seconds using a small screwdriver. Removing battery (usually CR2032) might do the trick too, but needs longer waiting time, about 15-30 minutes?

I just tried what you suggested but its still no signal,it was worth a go though. Do you happen to know were I can get a service manual for this motherboard? Ill be able to see whats going on with the schematic and what caps are responsible,if they are? I have installed a new power supply so its not that. Im not getting a beep when I turn it on ,that means hardware problem dosent it?

No beeps, that points to a hardware problem I think? Ive found that this computer has delete to enter bios.Don't worry I was madly pressing that as well.Ha!

Does a shorting pin(the blue things that short two pins together) go on the speaker pins or next to it? I cant remember if there was one there or not,I may have it mixed up with the CMOS shorting pin when I have cleared the CMOS.Just thought Id check seeing as I'm getting no beeps?

You probably need to source a schematic/datasheet/ manual for your motherboard. I might have a look later but am going out now. The beeper is the round thing in the pic Hycom HY-05

Ive sorted the CMOS plug it was on the wrong pins apparently, the OBR is system recovery? I put a plug on it but it made no difference.I remeasured the caps again and if I measure down one end of the line of them I get 16.6uf which is perfect,at the other end I get 15uf to 16uf. So it looks like Im going to have to put another 3 caps in. I'm not looking forward to doing that. What do they use for solder on these things,40% cast iron and 60% tungsten?

No I haven't found a service manual yet,I emailed Acer but I haven't heard back from them? That is the right board number and it is an AMD based board. On the M/B are two stickers one says 04PK73208008 PC RS690M03-8EKRFS2H and the other says MBS 88090017330044AEK00.

Normally, I never post repairs this quick after I do them, because… I am usually very slow. But today, I’m making an exception here. Why? No idea. Perhaps only because the repair details are still “fresh” in my head… which is ironic, given this is a 16 year old monitor that hardly anyone will care about today. It is new to me, though. I picked it up last November from someone on my local Craigslist. It wasn’t very close to where I live, but was close to a family friend that I had to go visit anyways. So after watching the posting on Craigslist for a few weeks and seeing it getting...

This is a guide that I am writing for helping others to replace their MEC1503 EC chip if it breaks (or to get around an inconvenient prompt to the BIOS). This forum has been extremely helpful to me so I would like to contribute to help others. I will tell you right now that this task is very difficult to do. You MUST have experience and tools to do precision micro-soldering, BGA reballing, trace repair, and general laptop repair skills.

There are some specialty tools needed to do this task. The replacement MEC1503 chips can be acquired from Aliexpress. Do not buy the bare chips as...

Best way to solder LVDS connector for beginner (and qfn) ?
                                            by corrize
Hello, I'm a beginner for micro soldering. Right now I have some difficult to solder a qfn 20, I guess I put too much solder on the thermal-ground pad, the result is a corner of chip wich don't touch the board (last try).

I use a wire solder with hot air, I tin the board and chip before with iron and I use good flux.

I will have to solder a LVDS connector (40 pins, laptop pc), I saw a solder paste in seringe, good quality (it does not scatter).

UV solder mask - high temp resistent, recomendation?
                                            by myth77
Can someone recommend any good UV solder mask? But i need a solder mask that will stand high temperetures. The thing is...sometimes i have a bigger cooper ripped from the board, lets say mosfet pad... i reconstract it with cooper sheet, then i "glue it" with solder mask...then i use UV light...and let it cool a bit. After, i try to clean the cooper of extra solder mask..and till that part all is ok. But, when i use a soldering iron to solder that pad/cooper...the solder mask gets weaker or destroyed and finally the pad is ripped again from the board .
                                            Is there any solder mask...

So I though in my spare time I’d set myself up repairing motherboards mainly pin damaged lga1151 sockets types.

I’m using an achi ir sc pro rework station (gave up on my Achie ir6500 - don’t recommend)

I’ve managed to get my rework profile somewhere in the correct region (after a lot of trial and error) to get the old sockets off and reflow new ones back on again, the problems I’m getting is not all of the solder balls are re-attaching when re-flow occurs. I know this because when socket is removed pads still look clean and have no solder...
