Re: Another Yamaha
You have misread my post. I'm talking about measuring the speaker terminals! One of those might be causing the protection to cut in.

Re: Another Yamaha
From my experience with Yamaha amplifiers, nothing really goes wrong with them unless they are dirty or get overheated? Do an ohms test on your speakers at the terminals, what are they reading and do they match?

Re: Another Yamaha
Have you checked for burnt or discolored resistors? Give the amplifier a good clean with a new paintbrush and vacuum cleaner, dirt and fluff can become moist and conductive causing the protection to cut in. If you don't know how to test transistors or whatever just say so.

Re: Another Yamaha RXV671
What do you mean by "Hang all Qpins one by one? I've been repairing gear for years if I don't know what you are talking about how is this guy going to figure it out?...

Re: Increased uf in old capacitors?
The resistance on those two caps shown in the photos is not open circuit! Both cycle from 1 million ohms to 500K ohms?...

How does that work? Could you give some details, please?...

Increased uf in old capacitors?
I've noticed when recapping amplifiers and speaker crossovers through the years that the old caps are sometimes increased in capacitance? I recapped a speaker manufactured in 1973/4 just recently, all of the Elcap brand caps were increased in value significantly and some even doubled in capacitance? The only thing I can think of to cause this is that some of the electrolyte has dried out between the layers bringing them closer together thereby increasing the capacitance, or that a chemical reaction has taken place in the electrolyte? Or it's the Aliens!Any other ideas on why this increase...

Re: Elcap Capacitors
I don't know how to make a link to them? Have a look on eBay, they are the same as any other polypropylene cap but yellow....

Those 3.3uf polypropylene capacitors I ordered from China are the "Udio" brand just in case anyone has come across them before?

polypropylene motor start caps for crossovers?
Is there any reason why I can't use polypropylene motor start capacitors for my speaker crossovers? They seem to have all the right specs so I thought I might ask here to find out? I'm replacing all the electrolytic capacitors on my speaker crossover boards with polypropylene caps and this would be the cheaper way to go. If it works???...

Re: Elcap Capacitors
I know exactly what you mean because I fairly recently replaced the electrolytic crossovers in a pair of JVC SK-71 speakers with polypropylene caps and I really was amazed. I just found 8 x 3.3uf polypropylene caps on eBay for $13.70 from China so I might give those a go and see what happens? Or should I buy elsewhere?

Re: Elcap Capacitors
I could get polypropylene caps at half price from a guy who sells them from home if I could only find the name and address of the place to get them in Queensland Australia? These speakers are high-end Quasar QS1 Studio Loudspeakers manufactured in England in 1973 by Eagle International. The Supertweeter, Tweeter and midrange drivers sound great but the woofer is lacking and the sound on some records is very thin. The big 60uf Elcap doesn't have NP on it or have red ends like the rest of the caps but it has plus signs on both ends like the rest, do you think...

Re: Elcap Capacitors
What if I replace these electros with the polypropylene type ones? I did it on some other speakers fairly recently and they sound great! I got them from Queensland but lost the address, they were like half price. Where am I going to find 16uf, N.P. 42uf N.P. and 60uf capacitors all 50v?...Last edited by redrooster; 12-17-2018, 12:25 AM.

Elcap Capacitors
I have some speakers that I'm recapping the crossovers on but someone told me that the Elcap brand of capacitors on the crossover board are electrolytic and not the polymer type? Some have red sealed ends are they electros as well? There is a yellow 470nf that must be a polymer type? Anyone here clued up on these caps?P.S. They are N.P. Non Polar....

Capacitor tolerance,value?
My query is for the Electronic Wizards and Gurus who scrutinize these Forums. I'm repairing a Whirlpool WBM35LM refrigerator. Will a metalized polypropylene 2.2uf 5% cap be tolerant enough to install in place of a metalized polypropylene 2.0uf 10% without any problems? I'll upload some photos of the capacitor and board. Its called the Potency board, its double sided with a 20 odd pin IC chip underneath....

Re: Soniq Smart TV, No Backlight.
Those strips look like they'll fit OK, they are Samsung 40 inch edge lit so I'll take the display apart and measure them although I'm confident they'll be good for the job.The YouTube video was great too, I learned a bit from that! Thanks heaps for taking the trouble to help me with this fellas, it's appreciated....Last edited by redrooster; 01-19-2018, 08:31 AM.

Re: Soniq Smart TV, No Backlight.
Whats going on here? It looks like carpet. lol But I suppose it's for dispersing the light from the lights around the edges of the screen? I checked ebay for 5630 LEDs, that was a number on the strip. I can get a 5-meter strip of 300 5630 LEDs for $5. Would that be right? I haven't dismantled the display because I want to know what I'm in for first and if I can get the right LEDs? P.S. Something went wrong when I tried to upload the other photo, this post disappeared, so I uploaded it to the last post. lolLast edited by redrooster; 01-19-2018, 03:42 AM.
