Re: HD4850 with Sacon FZ
Especially GeForce 7 series!
GeForce 9 series isn't as likely, even though some could slip by.
9 series are more likely to have Fujitsu.

Re: HD4850 with Sacon FZ
Here's an Ultra High End eVGA POS mobo with LOADS of FZ issues.
Even has FZ in two colors as I recall.

Search the forum. You'll find at least a half dozen mobo models with FZ.
-
You'll also find LOADS of eVGA + FZ video cards. - Loads..

Re: HD4850 with Sacon FZ
I've never ever seen one different from the Nvidia reference design using all polys unless it's a custom fancy one. But never seen a bad cap on those ultra high end boards.Leave a comment:

Re: HD4850 with Sacon FZ
eVGA (and Biostar and Jetway) have even used Sacon FZ on motherboards.

Re: HD4850 with Sacon FZ
The top end cards (GTX 570/580 and Radeon 6800 up) never use Sacons. Probably because it gets so hot on the boards. Always good I think to spend a little extra where you know you'll get good solid caps. (hence my Gigabyte Ultra Durable trumpet blowing)Leave a comment:

Re: HD4850 with Sacon FZ
They seem to be less common now, seems that eVGA stopped using them, knock on wood.Leave a comment:

Re: HD4850 with Sacon FZ
I dunno. I have a FX5500 that I've had since, I'd say 2004 with all Sacon FZ and Evercon. Truthfully, I stopped using the PC around 2007, so I only got 3-ish years of real use with these caps...and non of them seem to be failed. (The video card is still stable).
However, you do have to live with the fact that your video card may or may not explode at any given moment, so recapping with some Nichicon HM/HN is usually a good idea.Leave a comment:

Re: HD4850 with Sacon FZ
They appear to be the most common on eVGA GeForce 7 family cards.
I don't have those on my eVGA GeForce 9500 GT. Thank God!Leave a comment:

Recap it now or face the consequences like the 7300GT I cam across

Re: HD4850 with Sacon FZ
You can do a preventative recap. Or you could wait until it actually fails.
It is completely up to you.
Many here would say to do a preventative recap, especially if you have the capacitors already.Leave a comment:

my xfx geforce 5200 fx has all g-luxon crap. none visibly blown. should i recap anyway?Leave a comment:

The MBZ will be taller and make sure the diameter will fit.

Re: HD4850 with Sacon FZ
Totally agree with sofTest.
Only problem is that typically you do not have the physical room to fit 16V capacitors in the place of 6.3V capacitors.
The problem that I encounter reasonably often as well is that even if the voltage is the same. The physical space does not allow for good quality capacitors. Then you have to hunt down all the datasheets and find out whether you can get a certain minimum grade capacitor in a given size.
Normally I have to reduce the capacitance a bit so I can get good quality capacitors to fit in tight areas.Leave a comment:

Re: HD4850 with Sacon FZ
If there is room for the MBZ, you can use that. Using a capacitor with higher rated voltage doesn't hurt anything.Leave a comment:

Re: HD4850 with Sacon FZ
Video cards seem to be pretty hit-n-miss with their caps.
My XFX 8600gt has UCC solids and one lonely elcon.
My friend's EVGA 8600gt has all sanyo and ucc solids.
My PNY 9800gt has all UCC solids
Friend's GTX260's have sanyo solids.
Lower end powercolors (agp series usually) like to use TK.Leave a comment:

Re: HD4850 with Sacon FZ
I have a 7600GS that still work but the one cap FZ 1500 blew it is the one that is alone (other 4 are a pair and diff vrm I think). The fan was clogged and I think that one fz 1500 part of the power for fan or speed control not sure. The top is leaking. I have some of the teapo (I know shutter heh) that work these are not blown. They are 1500 would that work for just the fan?
I attached specs for teapo sc.pdf and seacon FZ. Will thise work for now I will order panisonic FM (this is what you recomend as best?)
Thanks for the help.Attached FilesLeave a comment:

by momakaSo after using capacitor bungs to repair the rubber feet on two laptops, shown here:
https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showpo...&postcount=548
… and here:
https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showpo...&postcount=585
… I was inevitably left with some paper rolls and cans from the Sacon FZ capacitors I “sacrificed”.
The paper rolls from these Sacon FZ caps looked absolutely bone-dry. The idea then occurred to me: what if I put a few drops of water on there? How (if at all) would that affect these already-failed capacitors?...-

I messed up this time.
I accidentally tore apart an smd component from a HD4850 I was trying to troubleshoot.
The card is Gainward HD4850 PCI-E 1024MB DDR3 TV-OUT 2DVI
P/N: XAE 4850S+T302-PM9148
The markings on the smd are VE 1 and it has 5 legs, 3 on 1 side and 2 on the other side. I searched but couldn't find anything about it.
Here are some photos from the card that I found on the internet:

by JunkrepairI'm finally recapping my Soyo K7VX6 motherboard (aka KT600 Dragon Ultra) and replacing Sacon SZ-series caps. The Sacon SZ datasheet provides a spec for tan delta, but not for ESR, while the candidate replacement caps are specified in terms of ESR.
I found this nice little description of the conversion:
Calculating capacitor ESR from Tan(delta)
https://forum.digikey.com/t/calculat...-from-tan/2633
It mentions that a general spec for tan delta has to be adjusted for the specific capacitance before plugging tan delta into the formula...-

by momakaI've been seeing a lot of cheap-looking (but not always so cheap) no-name AGP video cards on eBay for a while. They started popping up quite a bit when the market for AGP cards became more alive all of a sudden due to interest in “retro” PCs. One thing that struck me about these cheapo cards is that they almost always seem to come with garbage caps - including the abominable Sacon FZ. That aside, though, I've been wondering about the rest of the quality (or lack of?) on these cards. So I decided to satisfy my curiosity yet again.
This one was actually suggested to me by ChaosLegionnaire.... -
by momakaI did it again – I had to fulfill my inner desire to fix yet another old piece of hardware. This one is actually kind of worthwhile, too – it’s an EVGA e-GeForce 7600 GS AGP video card, model P/N: 256-A8-N542-T2. With the popularity of “retro” PCs from the Win9x to XP era going up, and the diminishing supply of decent AGP cards, it is expected their prices will go up. Or is it? I bought the this video card rather on the cheap side (~$9 USD shipped to my door), because the eBay seller listed it for parts or repair (and correctly noted the bad capacitors.)
So, here is the... - Loading...
