Looking for a good ESR Meter

As the title states, I'm sure this has been discussed here a lot but doing a search I didn't see a thread regarding it.

I'm thinking of getting an ESR meter, I have a cap meter but the more I read the more I realize that ESR may be just as important, esp for audio grade caps.

What do you guys think? Do you have any recommendations on a meter? I'm hoping to get one for under $200CAD and from searching that's a fair budget.

    looking forward to your responses.

    Vin

PS: if this is in the wrong section, mods please feel free to move.

Sorry, but all I find when I search for that is a colour display and not an ESR meter. Can you provide a link for clarity?

and this is said to be good, but not upgradeable at the moment.

I would recommend the ANATEK Blu ESR meter....I have one and it work great......repaired al those 'tough dog' problems I gave up on...try it...you won't be sorry.

This is more like I was looking for, a cased/professional package. but I've had to repair some amps that have 15,000uF caps. This unit can't measure high enough for what I've run in too... granted it was only once, but still

I'll have to be sure that anything I get has a known limit for this

Thanks for the link, but I'd rather have something in a case. I'm worried I'd short out the board with items on my work bench.

The other is more like I'm looking for, but I was kind of hoping to not have to wait 45 days shipping. But at least I have a better idea as to whats out there and I'm starting to figure out what I'm actually looking for in a tool.

I also found a thread on EEV's forum where you contributed quite a few firmware updates and helped a lot of people. That's cool, but I don't want a tool to be a project.

I'm hoping to find a cased meter that only needs batteries as maintenance.

second link is cased with lithium rechargeable battery in it.

i would skip the old 2nd generation stuff like the anatek blue.
they wont give uf or leakage data.

If you want a nice cased unit I would recommend the DER EE DE-5000 LCR Meter.
You can find them on eBay within your budget but do some research first:
They exist with allot of extras that may or may not be useful to you...

For me with shipping to Canada so far the DER unit looks to be the best bang for my buck. Thanks for the suggestions guys

Please do let us know how you like it if you end up buying it.
I don't think I've seen anyone here use it yet.
The nice thing for me is the 100Khz test mode on the 5000 model...

Re: Looking for a good ESR Meter

Be careful, the DER EE DE-5000 doesn't have input protection, it's a lab grade ESR meter, maybe not the best option for repairs.
