Re: Trying to find a replacement Power Cap (15000uF, 71V, 42mm Dia.)
Thanks, when I search Digikey this one wasn't even an option. The original was a 4 pin as well so that'll make this a straight swap for me. I was thinking I was going to need a touch of Hot-Glue to help keep them in place due to being so large.
Thank you
Vin

Re: Trying to find a replacement Power Cap (15000uF, 71V, 42mm Dia.)
I hunted on Allied, Digikey and Mouser and I cant find anything in 15,000uF with voltages above 35V. If I specify Snap in type, I can but they are too large in diameter.
I've spent a few hours hunting and still am....
I'm starting to hope that I don't have to replace them.

Trying to find a replacement Power Cap (15000uF, 71V, 42mm Dia.)
I'm re-capping a Nikko Alpha 220 Amplifier. This unit is from 1981 it seems.
I've been able to find all the electrolytic caps needed to replace them all except for the Main Power Caps.
They are;
Brand: Marcon
Size: 15,000uF
Volts: 71V
Diameter: 42mm
Polarized: Yes
I can't find anything in that physical size at 80v. Only one I can find is from Mouser (http://ca.mouser.com/ProductDetail/Nichicon/LKG1K153MKZ/?qs=sGAEpiMZZMtZ1n0r9vR22SV4CH%2f%252butB%252bw%252bAEvpLkzxoWSY%2fcJhWKIA%3d%3d)...

Re: Looking for a good ESR Meter
For me with shipping to Canada so far the DER unit looks to be the best bang for my buck. Thanks for the suggestions guys

Re: Looking for a good ESR Meter
Thanks for the link, but I'd rather have something in a case. I'm worried I'd short out the board with items on my work bench.
The other is more like I'm looking for, but I was kind of hoping to not have to wait 45 days shipping. But at least I have a better idea as to whats out there and I'm starting to figure out what I'm actually looking for in a tool.
I also found a thread on EEV's forum where you contributed quite a few firmware updates and helped a lot of people. That's cool, but I don't want a...

Re: Looking for a good ESR Meter
This is more like I was looking for, a cased/professional package. but I've had to repair some amps that have 15,000uF caps. This unit can't measure high enough for what I've run in too... granted it was only once, but still
I'll have to be sure that anything I get has a known limit for this

Sorry, but all I find when I search for that is a colour display and not an ESR meter. Can you provide a link for clarity?

Looking for a good ESR Meter
As the title states, I'm sure this has been discussed here a lot but doing a search I didn't see a thread regarding it.
I'm thinking of getting an ESR meter, I have a cap meter but the more I read the more I realize that ESR may be just as important, esp for audio grade caps.
What do you guys think? Do you have any recommendations on a meter? I'm hoping to get one for under $200CAD and from searching that's a fair budget.
looking forward to your responses.

LXI AM4023 (Sherwood A2220-CP) - Power Supply Re-Cap
I'm looking to recap this amp. looking at the power supply I'm not able to find proper replacements.
10,000uf (0.01F) @ 50V
Terminal Pin Spacing = 22mm
Dummy Pin Spacing = 20mm
Diameter = 35mm
Height = 80mm
See attached pics, thanks in advance.
Vin
EDIT: this is the closest I can find but the pin spacing is too short.

Re: Technics SU-8011 Receiver - Looking to recap it
I didn't realize that they were snap-in type. I was thinking of getting these
http://ca.mouser.com/ProductDetail/Nichicon/UVZ1H682MRD/?qs=sGAEpiMZZMvwFf0viD3Y3XIqzztmDT7naX95u8F7QVc%3d
but the ones you recommend has a lower leakage current and 3x the life.
it's worth the extra buck.

Re: Technics SU-8011 Receiver - Looking to recap it
here are a few questions, I know the voltage on a cap is what it's rated for. But in an audio circuit. bumping up to the next available voltage cause any changes to the circuit?
1)
One cap thats in there is a 47uf @ 6.3v, on mouser they only start at 10v. I know that electrically isn't an issue. but again, what about an audio circuit?
2)
and any recommendations on power caps?

Re: Technics SU-8011 Receiver - Looking to recp it
I don't see a KL series on their website, just KZ, KT and KA. Do you have a link?
This is what I see their offering is. http://ca.mouser.com/new/nichicon/Nichicon-Audio-Caps/

Technics SU-8011 Receiver - Looking to recap it
Hi Guys.
I just got this receiver for $30. the function switch was buggered up but I think I have that sorted out. (Testing shortly)
I've read that recapping this unit does it justice and I'm wondering which caps I should be looking at using for the replacements. There is a local electronics store around the corner but the stuff that's there is cheap Chinese stuff... in a pinch it works. But I don't really want to go that route on this restoration.
This amp was assembled in 1979.
I'm not looking to use the best of the best considering on what...Last edited by Vinster; 03-02-2016, 10:33 AM.

Re: New Members - please post your introductions here
Hi guys, happy to be a part of this. I worked at an electronics repair shop while in high school in the early 90's.
In College I took Electronics/Telecommunications and then Computer Technology and Process Control. Been doing Industrial Automation, Electrical Designing, Industrial IT and many other things.
Looking to get back in to electronics repair (small time stuff). In the last few Months I've restored a Technics SL-1200MK2 Turntable, an LXI AM 4023 Integrated Amplifier, and a Crate B-60 Bass...
