LCD TV with a bulging cap in power supply

Hi my sister gave me a TV. It's acoustic solutions lcd26762hdf

yep I've never heard of that brand neither.

Well it turns itself off after about 1 min.

I took the back off and there is a capacitor on the power supply board which is bulging.

I would like to replace this with a superior one.

I look at the cap in question and it says :

    SAMXON 1000u F16v
    105ᵒ C6
    W9A
    GF(M)

Replace it with Low esr of the same value, also replace any other Samxon Gf brand capacitor.

GF series are LOW ESR type, 105c.
          https://cdn.badcaps-static.com/pdfs/...f7f2736d54.pdf

I would replace them with PANSONIC LOW ESR, 105c FM or FR series.

esr is not printed on it, you need the GF series datasheet.

however, dont concern yourself with it, just use panasonic FR series.
be carefull to get the correct diameter and height or the tv may not go back together

and dont use ebay - use RS or Farnell

If you need practice taking it apart, replace them one at a time every couple of months.

Not that I'm a smart-aleck or anything. I usually replace all questionable parts while I'm there. If I have to come back, so be it, but I'm going to try to not let that happen. Personally I don't trust any but Panasonic, Nichicon, or Cornell Dubillier, maybe Rubycon.

^This, if one cap failed the others have been exposed to the same stresses (heat, ripple, etc.) for the same amount of time, and likely aren't far behind (especially those that are the same brand and series, meaning they are engineered to the same specs.).

Re: LCD TV with a bulging cap in power supply

I've been working on a similar situation with a Gateway monitor suffering with the Great Capacitor Plague. I'd suggest replacing them all so the full compliment of electrolytic caps are the same age. During old capacitor removal, one shortcut I've learned is to grasp the capacitor with a pair of gas pliers as you wiggle and pull them off the board. Once you physically pull them off, all that remains are the leads with the rectangular terminals that were formerly inside the cap. Then with the cap body removed, there is less heat sinking when de-soldering the leads making the job faster and easier. I used to use the a cumbersome "solder sucker" tool that didn't actually work and also the copper braid "solder wick". The solder wick works but limits your visibility and usually ends up with burnt fingers. In place of this procedure, I now leave all the old left over solder on the circuit pad and use a straight pin from the wife's sewing, pushing it through the board while heating the circuit pad. This facilitates lead space for placing the new caps on the board and then soldering with just a tad of new solder. As for finding replacement caps, I always use Mouser Electronics because their listing are extremely extensive and complete. On the site, just search for "Electrolytic Capacitors, Leaded". My favorite caps are Panasonic with a balance between quality and price. Here, you can select Regular or Low ESR types among others.

Thanks for posting the update and glad the capacitor fix worked not sure if you have replaced them all on the power supply but its always best too, although i usually leave the main large filter capacitor on the hot side of the psu, as thats usually fine.

I don't think R.S. need the shit that was branded Acoustic Solutions. They tend to sell higher class stuff (or at least until Toshiba, Sharp and Panny started rebranding Vestel shit!)

I was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.

Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.

I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.

The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.

With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

                                          Assuming...

I have wanting to do this project for quite sometime now and I finally found a switching power supply that will work on this desoldering gun station ZD-915 that the original switching power supply took a shit and just was not worth trying to fix it because this switching power is not quite big enough to handle the heater element and the vacuum pump

One note when I tested the switching power supply and the voltage control board I noticed that this desoldering gun heat up much faster than the original switching power supply which I was really surprised by to the point that I might buy...

Modification to a ZD-987 desoldering/soldering station using a external switching power supply
                                          by sam_sam_sam
I have been working on this concept for quite some time now with limited success but recently I found a switching power supply that is setup for the voltage that this soldering station needs to operate at however it also needs part of the secondary circuit from the original switching power because you need several voltage rails

I once tried to get a ZD-915 desoldering station to work on a 18 volt battery power supply but unfortunately things did not go well but I did find a work around but I might try this idea again but going at a little differently more about this another time...

Definitive technology SC 2000 subwoofer amp's power supply clicking and popping
                                          by JimBanville
The sub developed a constant popping every couple seconds from woofer and power LED flickering with nothing but wall AC connected. Connecting an audio cable didn't change anything. It doesn't play but a second or two of audio in between the pops.
Opened it up and discovered the power supply is making a faint clicking or ticking sound.
I measured the amp's output to the woofer and it pulses up to 50mv DC to be driver. The pulses coincide with the power supply ticking/clicking.
I measured the power supply output going to the amp board and it too has this pulsing. Voltage cycles...

                                          Hello Everybody,

Trying to repair a power supply from a Russound CA4 Multizone Controller (picture attached)

Russound no longer supports it but were kind enough to provide a schematic of the power supply (pdf attached).

The outputs marked 12v and 20v are all measuring only 1v.

The board is clicking, which I think means it is in something called hiccup mode when the flyback transformers switches because of an internal problem or something else on the board Overloading it.

The capacitors physically look clean (no bludgesor leaks) and...
