    Question about testing mesurements

    Hi everyone,

I had an iMac A1200 that is dead after Hydro companie come to change the counters when im not there and my imac is now dead.

I had an ATLAS ESR70+ and also an TEC Capcitance meter. After unsolder, i've test an capacitor and the mesurement exceed 10% of higher.

It's an 1500uF 6.3V, with both tester, i had an reading of 1750~1790uF. Way more than 10%. I would like to know if their still good, or isn't normal to read over the 10%.

How can we know when it's good or not when exceed the uF value.

    Thanks.

I dont know for sure but would say it is unlikely to be a problem - what is the make and series.

What does that mean - why would it affect your imac

Does it mean the electric company changed the meters causing a power surge and your Imac didnt like it?

Selldoor, I think that would be a given, eh?

8ternity, make sure you have latest firmware in Atlas.

Not a given, For his failure anyway. Removing power should cause a issue unless there is already a problem to begin with.

What caps are you testing? A lot of missing information to help you get it fixed. The readings you have provided so far for the caps you have tested are fine so that's not the problem if you tested them correctly and out of circuit.

                    Re: Question about testing mesurements

If your PC is normally on all the time, and when it lost power it won't even turn back on, it could be a failure in the startup circuitry of your power supply (often just a high-value resistor(s) to supply some power to the PWM controller IC)

Since this is not used when actually running, if the startup circuit fails during normal operation, the power supply will still run, but as soon as it loses power it will not come back on again when the power comes back.

Brethen, depends on system. I had PC's that would boot from power O/l. If the supply isn't psw then damage has already trotted about the PC. I would guess sense he doesn't use battery backup w/avr that his PC isn't plugged into a home run. So this wears down the parts too, it all weakens the PC to where a power pop could damage it. jmho

It might be a given for you but in the UK a Hydro company would be something to do with WATER not electricity so to me he has said.
The guy from the water company came to change the water meter ....

selldoor, I sit corrected, read correctly but my brain over ran the "hydro" thinking he meant an kw meter. OK, now if metalic ground is used for his place then harmonics and UN grounding via hydro meter is still plausible.

Could be electricity that comes from Hydroelectric power.

Hi guys, I need your help again.
I have this iMac from a customer that shut down during a storm along with all the other devices in the house. In particular, the router, connected via Ethernet to the iMac, caught fire.
When I removed the screen from the iMac to check the status of the LEDs, I noticed that none of them were lit. I had a perfectly compatible and working power supply, so I tried it right away, but the problem remained the same (no LEDs). With the thermal camera, I noticed only a slight warming (32 degrees) of the NCP1605BG chip on the power supply. The rest was completely...

iMac turns on no drops no cracks, tried to DFU Restore the iMac, logo turns on great! however iMac turns itself off and then restarts to the (!) icon and won't post the restore. Tried thunderbolt 3 cable, tried regular USB C cable and nothing.

this is the message it gives me with the error

Any thoughts what this could be? I will open it up and repair it but I am not 100% sure since this iMac doesn't...

Customer came in for data recovery, came to find out data is soldered on to this iMac (learn something new everyday) this is a 2020 T2 iMac so I was surprised because the iMac Pro has a T2 chip and it isn’t soldered on. Anyways, the iMac boots to Apple logo and then restarts, before it turns off you hear a quarter fan spin then it repeats itself. I decided to do a DFU revive to restore any hardware firmware issues and it was successful in reviving the device however the issue persists in boot looping. It shows the Apple logo for like 40 seconds then turns off and fan spin rinse repeat. I...

                                  Problem

This is an LG edge LED lit LCD Display. The LEDs are on the bottom edge of the display. There are 2 bars (left and right) Each bar has many LEDs and a 6 pin connector. Each pin drive several LEDs thus is the highest current flow / heat junction. The weak lead free solder gradually fails with thermal expansion/contraction cycling and increases resistance. PSU will compensate up to a point, then when the current is too high, PSU just shut down the backlight causing a dark display. I have even seen one which the connector just fell off as solder points became completely detached....
