Customer came in for data recovery, came to find out data is soldered on to this iMac (learn something new everyday) this is a 2020 T2 iMac so I was surprised because the iMac Pro has a T2 chip and it isn’t soldered on. Anyways, the iMac boots to Apple logo and then restarts, before it turns off you hear a quarter fan spin then it repeats itself. I decided to do a DFU revive to restore any hardware firmware issues and it was successful in reviving the device however the issue persists in boot looping. It shows the Apple logo for like 40 seconds then turns off and fan spin rinse repeat. I removed all the ram and tried one ram to see if it was a ram issue. Nothing. I removed the screen to investigate and nothing seems abnormal. Does anyone have any suggestions? I could do board repair but I wouldn’t know where to start on this machine. Anyone’s experience with this would be great

by reformattI thought I'd throw out some of my personal experiences in the last 12 months with Intel iMacs, 2.5" SATA SSD drives and Fusion drive data recoveries.
As a backgrounder, Apple never fitted a 2.5" SSD's to these iMacs. Apple's SSD option was a system of 32GB NVMe blade drive (NGFF connector) and Seagate 1TB 2.5" HDD, married together in software to become a Fusion drive. Non Fusion systems have just the 1TB Seagate HDD.
So, the most common reason an iMac comes across my bench is because it's either ridiculously slow, or it fails to boot at all. The most...12-18-2024, 10:34 PM -
by abajorI have the above mentioned Alien Ware A51 R2, currently it randomly will boot into the OS but more often than not it boot loops, I'm assuming there's an issue with power regulation somewhere.
It comes with Dual 180 Watt Dell PSU, which is ironic since the thing claims it requires 420 watts in the bios screen.
To rule out the power bricks I've attempted to power up the Laptop with a 330W and 240W Dell PSU at the same time, it still has the same boot loop issue so the problem is definitely the laptop.
Right now I'm trying to dig through the PDF schematics and Board... -

by fr0n1kHello. Got an iMac after a power surge. The PSU survived, but the motherboard did not. Symptoms - after connecting the power, one LED (the rightmost one) lights up, 3.28-3.3v hangs on all legs of the bios flash drive, except for 4. The PCH is heated, low resistance PP3V3_S5 - 30 ohms, PP1V05_S0_PCH - 10-15 ohms. Powered through laboratory power supply 3V 1A to PP3V3_S5, the hub heats up wildly. USB data lines have the same resistance, not underestimated. There is no response to the power button.
PP12V_S0 - 0.05V (should be 0), PP1V05_S0_PCH - 0.5V (should be 0)
