How to NOT recap your motherboard

    Linky @ XS

I dont know if this has been shown here.... but anyways scroll down a bit to see the way a "cap mod" was done to that DFI NF2 Infinity motherboard. I've seen plenty of bad solder jobs, but this is just insane.

The guy claims to be helpful. That example is not. What are Elyt capacitors? Are they low ESR and good quality?A Google does not reveal any positive lead for me. Anybody have a clue?

Elyt looked like a brand name the way the guy depicts it. Google reveals come caps with this brand name. You are probably right the guy may not have been specific.

IHO he did this not fore recaping, but to archive better OC results. And IMHO he could push his system mutch further in that configuration.
Anyway, i agree, that this is somhow silly, but what more do you expect from unskiled and uninformed people. Even most profesionalls don`t know anything about caps, ESR and why cheep ones are bad.

Re: How to NOT recap your motherboard

I'm wondering how crap capacitors could improve anything, but I suppose the original caps weren't any better. (Green with gold is usually a bad sign, for example.)

And that is quite sad. He could've gotten some good money for the board, at least. *sigh* One less left unharmed.

I can see the link fine, by the way.
You know there's something wrong when you open up a PSU and are glad to find Teapos.
Why I don't buy cheap cases!

He mutilated a perfectly good DFI board!

Perhaps I'm biased, I'm not a big fan of such voltage (droop) mods etc. they're a bit like getting tattoo's IMHO... you live to regret it

How the hell did he fit it bacl into his case?
I only have like a half centimetre gap between the board and the frame.
And did he mention something about cooling the FET's?

How do you flash using DOS? I've only done it once and it was on my old Asus board. Can someone give the steps involved.
How could you have never used DOS?

                    To each his own.
Some guys take their case out back and fill it full of lead, some guys take the board out back and fill it full of crazy caps.
If he even got one more minihertze out of it, they all think he's golden.

Re: How to NOT recap your motherboard

Well the original caps are KZE & KZG like Trodas topics states, and probably those DFi boards are not that stable as you might guess for the amount of $ they cost. But any way, if this would have been some more elektronically skilled person, he would changed all caps by Oscon. This make a real difference if made right.
