Asus ROG Strix Scar G533qm with a G733qm Motherboard, can I modify the Bios to accept G533 Bios

    Hello,

I have a Asus ROG Strix Scar 15 (G533QM) that had a dead motherboard (Graphics card dead) and after trying to fix the motherboard with no success, I bit the bullet on a sale for a new motherboard. I ordered a motherboard for the 15 inch model which is the one that I have, and when the motherboard arrived it wasn't for a little while that I saw it was from the 17 inch model.

My question is, can I update the Bios on this G733 motherboard to a G533 Bios.

The reason for wanting to do this is that the keyboard isn't working as it should, and I think this is because it doesn't know that it has a much smaller keyboard plugged in than it should and is thinking that some keys are in the wrong place. List of keys that have issues are as follows:
    - Fn key not working
    - Left shift not working (big problem for playing anything)
    - \ not working
    - alt gr is registering as control
    - PrtSc not working
    - Delete is registering as Page Down
    - Play button not working
    - Stop is registering as insert
    - Previous Track is registering as Print Screen
    - Next Track is registering as Delete

There are all the issues that I think are present and I have tried alot of things before asking on here if anyone knows if I can do a bios swap.

    - Updated bios (G733QM)
    - Downgraded bios (G733QM)
    - Uninstalled Keyboard and USB Drivers
    - Uninstalled MyAsus and Armory Create and Reinstalled
    - Driver updates
    - Disabled Fast Boot in bios and in windows when the laptop is closed

Hopefully some will be able to either change a bios file for a G533QS that I can then load on this motherboard (G733qs) and that will fix the problem with the keyboard. I have no clue if this is what the issue is but I think it makes sense in my head that the motherboard is looking and trying to place keys where they should and shouldn't be.

    Thanks in advance.

There are extra keys on the G733QM keyboard compared to the G533QM , the keyboard mapping is different, the EC firmware will be different, so besides trying a different bios you might have to flash the EC with a programmer, if it doesn`t self-flash from the bios (if the EC is in the bios ?) Do both motherboards have the same EC and bios chip part numbers.
Do both motherboards have the same model number and revision.

Thank you for the information. I have had a look at the board that is in the laptop now and the old dead board. They both have the same name and model number (G533 - 6050A3250201 - Mb - A02(A2)). The G733 board (The one in the laptop that works) even says it's a G533 on the motherboard itself. I have attached pictures.

I think that I have also managed to find the bios chip, but I am still new and not too sure if it is or not, but again both of the boards have the same chip and numbers. I have also attached pictures of the chip that I think is the Bios chip.

Would it be safe to assume that I could try and flash the EC with the information/files from a G533 to make this board into a true G533.

Just had a thought, if the chip that I attached in the previous comment is in fact the Bios chip for this board, would I just be able to de solder it from the original board and then re solder to the new one and see if that would work from there, or would there be other chips that have to swapped over too.

So I took the Bios and EC chip off the old motherboard, and transferred them to the new motherboard and the laptop would power on (keyboard lights and activity lights, however it would not post or display anything. Would there be another chip related to a bios change as I have just reverted back to the original EC Chip to be able to somewhat still use the laptop.

ASUS ex-b250-V7 motherboard bios corrupted - by me
            by oragano
hey all, i did a silly thing and flashed bios to perfectly working board. None of the asus official download bios would work with ez flash. They all gave error saying not supported bios file. I tried using uefi tool to extract it to a bin file but then ez flash wouldnt even recognise it.
So, i used freedos and afudos with the aforementioned bin file i extracted and forced the issue. After bios reprogram, reboot and it was dead. Fans spinning but no post.
i have a bios writer and none of the .cap files from the official site work either. I just get one spin, then off, then all fans...

Is it okay to flash stock bios onto the motherboard's BIOS?

            Hi there,
            I have a 14" Lenovo Laptop (Flex 5 14ALC05) which has a boot issue.
The little LED on the power button is flashing slowly and nothing happen.
This unit do not have any BIOS button cell battery so I tried many times draining the power but it is still not powering on.

So I decided to flash the BIOS using a cheap programmer.
And I was successfully able to read the content (exactly 16MB file) which BTW is a WINBOND 74m12jwsiq (according to the package inscription - but detected as W25Q128FW in the software - IMSProg on Linux)

            I also...

            ASUS TP500LA BIOS request/repair/merge?
            by jbonavita
Hi, my laptop wont boot at all
With original bios no POST, only LED lights
With alternative BIOS from model TP500LN (flashed via programmer) the notebook works again
            Some issues
            A- with bios from 500LN, it won't update from bios of model 500LA (from 500LN v203 to 500LA v300)
B- If updated from 500LN version 203 to 300, the battery stops being recognized

            Things I tried

Lenovo Thinkbook 15 G2 ITL i5 (serial number: MP2BFZEF) bios request
            by Wahaz
            Hello,

I have a Lenovo Thinkbook 15 G2 ITL i5 Laptop (serial number: MP2BFZEF) that when I turn it on, the led on the power button lights up for 5 seconds, then goes out. There's no display and nothing happens.
So I thought it was a Bios problem.
I found 3 bios chips on the board, which I read with a bios programmer: two XMC model bios chips and a Winbond model bios chip. Each XMC model bios chip has two partitions named XM25QH128A [3.3V] and XT25F128A [3.3V]. And the Winbond model bios chip has three partitions named W25Q80BL 3.3V, W25Q80xV 3.3V and W25Q80DV 3.3V....

HP Pavilion Gaming Laptop 15-ec2523nd - Dimm2 slot disabled after corrupt bios repair? Advice requested.
            by Bloodhoundje
            Hi everyone,

I have been doing hardware repair as a hobby for some years now and recently decided to learn about repairing laptops as a fun challenge.

I managed to get my hands on a "HP Pavilion Gaming 15-ec2523nd" notebook that only shows a white power LED and doesnt respond to anything.

After initial testing I concluded the bios seems to be corrupted since all voltages are normal and there are no shorts. HP has a feature for a bios restore from USB with winkey+B for this model. This did not work.

I have desoldered the bios chip (GigaDevice...
