Re: Anything worse than GSC???
It was over 3 years ago when I checked (when I borrowed an ESR meter from a friend), so I don't remember what reading I got. All I remember was that I pulled the datasheet and compared, and they were in spec. And yes, they are all 8x11.

Re: Anything worse than GSC???
The little Teapo caps (8 mm dia and smaller) are even worse than the big ones. I just opened a bag of used Teapo SC 1000 uF, 6.3 V that I pulled from various P4SD motherboards (for those temporary "repairs"/tests), and found one cap bulging and almost leaking. I am pretty sure it wasn't like that when I put it in that bag, and IIRC some appeared fine on an ESR meter last I checked.
Sigh... cheapo Teapo.

An unused 10x20 2200uF 10V Teapo SC bulged just by sitting there for 6.5 years. My guess is that they fail without showing it so often because of the quality of the cans. Microscopic cracks in the cans probably cause the electrolyte to dry out much faster. Of course the fact that they use questionable raw materials otherwise doesn't help.
Some appeared fine on the ESR meter? What does that mean? Do these measure 8x11? Were they around 0.1 ohms or lower, or a bit higher?Leave a comment:

Yeah. I mean, I understand why OEMs use them, because they usually last past the warranty. But yes they are all replace on sight to me, I don't even trust the little ones. Seen a lot of them fail as well.Leave a comment:

I agree P4 some people say that teapo are semi decent..... they aren't seen plenty of them fail they are junk.Leave a comment:

Re: Anything worse than GSC???
"JH" is Jianghai (a Chinese brand). Not exactly good quality but if worse comes to worse, you'll just have to replace them again. I agree about Samxon. Too many bad series on their behalf to call them good (GL, GF, GK, and GD and GC are far from impervious to failure). At the very least, their low ESR capacitors simply aren't good. I don't consider them any better than Taicon or even Yageo (Teapo).Leave a comment:

Re: Anything worse than GSC???
That's why you don't buy crap from Aldi.
Contrary to what old people may believe, products sold in Aldi aren't always made in Germany to the highest standards and quality, it's juts a glorified supermarket that happens to sell cheap electronic junk alongside groceries. Cheap, Chinese-made electronic junk.
Samxon are junk too, my 2009 Hisense TV died in mid 2012 due to a bunch of shitty Samxons (GD series). I used a bunch of recycled off-brand "JH" caps in their place, pulled from a 2001-era CRT TV, and the TV has been in daily use ever since without any problems whatsoever.Last edited by Wester547; 07-02-2015, 06:27 PM.Leave a comment:

Re: Anything worse than GSC???
Yeah, CapXon are quite crappy. But I think they are just more popular than GSC. That said, I don't think there is an XFX GF 8400/8500/8600/9400/9500/9600 or eVGA 6/7 series card with those Sacon FZs that haven't bulged yet.
By the way, GSC/Evercon/Sacon has another new name now: Elcon. Parent company changed names to Samcon. Popular series that go bad are EEL and EEZ. You can find those on XFX GeForce 9 series low and mid-end video cards (i.e. 9400, 9500, 9600... NOT 9800). IIRC, Samcon's website also said they make solid polymers now. Run for your life
Ahh samcon. My grandfather gave me a 6 year old RCA cheapey 5.1 sound system, that died after about 8 hours of use. When I opened it up it is FULL of Samcon capacitors. One bulged.Leave a comment:

Re: Anything worse than GSC???
Capxon and Samxon Gf for me replaced close to 1000 of just them absolute junk !
While I have seen quite a few failed Gsc and Fuhjyyus from when I used to work on computers nothing contrasted to the amount of Crapxon and Samxon Gf's that I have replaced.Last edited by ReeceyBurger123; 06-25-2015, 03:15 PM.Leave a comment:

Re: Anything worse than GSC???
I found an old L&C power supply on the side of the road which had something rattling around inside. Took it home, took the lid off, and the outer shell of a Viva 47uF 50V cap fell out. The caps inside were a mixture of CapXon and Viva caps with two Su'scon 470uF 200V 85°C primaries, and the guts of the 47uF all over the inside with yellow electrolyte sprayed everywhere.

A few burned resistors in the mix as well.
I threw the board out sans cables without further looking at it, but kept the case and 80mm fan which was still working. It was one of those PSUs which has the fan directed inside the PC instead of out the rear.

by momakaSo after using capacitor bungs to repair the rubber feet on two laptops, shown here:
https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showpo...&postcount=548
… and here:

… I was inevitably left with some paper rolls and cans from the Sacon FZ capacitors I “sacrificed”.
The paper rolls from these Sacon FZ caps looked absolutely bone-dry. The idea then occurred to me: what if I put a few drops of water on there? How (if at all) would that affect these already-failed capacitors?...-

by rumi409 Hi,
I'm trying to resurrect a LG OLED C1 TV that has some panel banding. I used the TCON error bypass to get a picture. I was able to update the firmware as well. But when I performed a pixel cleaning to try to get the banding out, it made the image significantly worse. I tried to undo the effects of the pixel cleaning by performing a factory reset and IN_Stop, but that didn't work. Any way to reset pixel cleaning data?...1 Photo -
by budwichThis printer started to usually print the first sheet output of the day with back streaks / blotches. After the first sheet, the print would then be relatively clean. I did the corona wire cleaning but it didn't really help as the next day, the same result. Now after some cleaning of the black drum (with some alcohol and cotton), it has gotten worse to the point now it prints "ugly" all the time. :-(
Is the toner just done or have I ruined the drum during my effort? System indicates the drum has about 60% life, toner 40%.
The attached picture shows the poor... -
by JunkrepairI'm finally recapping my Soyo K7VX6 motherboard (aka KT600 Dragon Ultra) and replacing Sacon SZ-series caps. The Sacon SZ datasheet provides a spec for tan delta, but not for ESR, while the candidate replacement caps are specified in terms of ESR.
I found this nice little description of the conversion:
Calculating capacitor ESR from Tan(delta)
https://forum.digikey.com/t/calculat...-from-tan/2633
It mentions that a general spec for tan delta has to be adjusted for the specific capacitance before plugging tan delta into the formula...-

by link626I thought my tv power supply was stable. It's been stable for a few weeks since I swapped in nichicon, united cc, panasonic caps to replace the cheap china caps.
But today it caused my tv to have a flickering spasm again.
what a letdown.
I swapped back my backup power board which has cheap china caps, and the tv backlight stopped flickering.
Sometimes these high quality caps just don't make things better.-
