Re: Klipsch computer subwoofer speakers hissing buzzing. Does this look like bad cap?
the other 47uf cap was also bad, but not bloated.
both 47uf measured 9uf.
both caps replaced now. Didn't hear the loud hissing when plugging in the sub.
hopefully fixed for good this time.

welp. old cap was bad
but it didn't fix the issue. buzzing still comes and goes.
Maybe there are other bad caps.

Re: Klipsch computer subwoofer speakers hissing buzzing. Does this look like bad cap?
shoot. I just ordered some panasonic 105c
because that was the only thing for sale
would this cause a domino effect of failure in the other caps?...

Klipsch computer subwoofer speakers hissing buzzing. Does this look like bad cap?
Klipsch 4.1 computer speakers hissing.
Looking at all the caps on the amplifier, they all seem flat, except one maybe.
Not sure if this is leakage, or factory marker pen.
Can you tell?
The speaker system recently developed nonstop hissing noise. after 22 years.
Is there a special kind of cap I have to buy?
Low ESR? or general?
I see these for sale.... Panasonic FC 47uF 50v low ESR radial Capacitors caps 105C New low impedance...Last edited by link626; 08-02-2022, 06:42 PM.

Re: new apple studio display uses capxon caps
i mean generally apple products are superior to the competition, or overengineered.
they use high quality materials everywhere else.
I don't think they'd risk their reputation saving a few pennies on capxon instead of the japanese brands.
maybe capxon has improved.
these are 22uf 450v, must be custom made for apple in this pencil size

Re: damn. I'm disappointed these high quality caps made my power supply worse
I have another power board with original HEC caps that I swapped in
and the backlight does not flicker at all right now.
so my conclusion is the backlight is fine.
Even the original powerboard would not flicker like this before I replaced the caps.
That's why I'm thinking something is wrong with the combo of new nichicon/chemicon/pana caps I put in.
The new caps also caused the transformer to make buzzing noises...

Re: damn. I'm disappointed these high quality caps made my power supply worse
how do I account for ripple?
I didn't intentionally buy low ESR caps. They were just the only ones available of the same dimensions as the old caps.
These were the caps I bought...

Re: damn. I'm disappointed these high quality caps made my power supply worse
soldering was good.
legit caps bought from mouser.
all 105C rated, exact same capac and voltage specs as the original china caps.
most of these new caps are low ESR, but I'm not sure if the original china caps were low ESR. I'm guessing the chinas were general purpose.
I'm gonna swap back the cheap china caps and see if the flickering goes away.
With the china caps, the original board did not cause backlight flicker.

damn. I'm disappointed these high quality caps made my power supply worse
I thought my tv power supply was stable. It's been stable for a few weeks since I swapped in nichicon, united cc, panasonic caps to replace the cheap china caps.
But today it caused my tv to have a flickering spasm again.
what a letdown.
I swapped back my backup power board which has cheap china caps, and the tv backlight stopped flickering.
Sometimes these high quality caps just don't make things better.

Re: TCL 43s405 power board 81-PBE045-M02 (PLE100-2A) changed out the cheap caps
when it flickered, it flickered from the darkest to the brightest backlight setting.
It flickers for several minutes when I first turn on the TV in the morning.
it hasn't flickered again for the last 16 hours today.
Yesterday, it flickered for a few minutes in the morning, then was ok for most of the day, then flickered a little in the evening.
When I was using my other power board, it didn't flicker either.
So it's highly likely to be caused...Last edited by link626; 08-09-2021, 11:19 PM.

Re: changed out the cheap caps on my tv power board to nichicon chemicon pana. flicke
it's a TCL 43s405
power board 81-PBE045-M02 (PLE100-2A)
I already have a spare board. But I want to repair this board.
The new caps are all the same spec as the old ones.
So I expected the board to work flawlessly.
I read that capacitors have burn-in periods. Maybe mouser sent me old stock.
Currently day 3 of using all new caps, and the TV flickers for several minutes turning it on...

TCL 43s405 power board 81-PBE045-M02 (PLE100-2A) changed out the cheap caps
changed out the cheap HEC caps on my tv power board to a mix of nichicon chemicon and panasonic caps below.
now there's louder buzzing noise from the yellow thing in the upper left corner. (anyone know what that yellow thing does? is that the transformer?)
and the screen flickers in brightness. It's a light flicker, but noticeable.
the buzzing ebbs and flows, like cicadas buzzing.
in similar fashion, the brightness flickering ebbs and flows. the flicker might stop for a minute or two.
these are all low esr caps, and I'm wondering if that might...Last edited by SMDFlea; 08-09-2021, 12:35 PM. Reason: TCL 43s405 power board 81-PBE045-M02 (PLE100-2A)

Re: Should I use low ESR caps in TV power supply board, or will any kind suffice?
welp. I'm just gonna buy all new caps then and shotgun it
I measured all the caps after removal, and here are the numbers
47uf 100v x2 actual 45.53 46.52
680uf 25v x2 actual 683 678
100uf 50v x2 actual 97.8 98.88
10uf 50v actual 9.56
82uf 450v actual 75.64
33uf 160v actual 30.18
i know they say tolerance is 20% +/-, but these measurements seem low on some of these cheapo caps.
