Re: Recap PS? Replace? Old friend - thoughts?
True but the Dell H240ES (same application, but 80PLUS Gold) is much better. I use an optiplex 390 SFF with the H240ES as my HTPC, it runs super cool compared to the standard 240AS version....

Buffalo vs TP-Link for 16 port switch
I'm going to be moving into a new house with several friends, and I'm in charge of overhauling the (non)existing network setup. Currently it's simply the Time Warner provided modem with built in wireless. In a 115 year old home, it is completely inadequate in every way.
I am bringing in my pfsense router/firewall, and TP-Link Archer C5 AP with 9dbi antennas. But in the process, we are going to need a 16 port switch to handle all the wired devices. I have narrowed it down to either the below Buffalo switch, or the following TP-Link one. The Buffalo is unmanaged, the TP-Link non-rackmount...

Re: Bad Ceramic in a Dell 390SFF PSU
Hmmm. I took one of the units to be trashed because of a bad motherboard, and replaced the motherboard. I had ordered a new capacitor for it. But then I realized this is an 80plus gold unit, the H240ES. I want to make sure to fix it pre-emptively if it's still a problem, since I'm using it now as my HTPC.

Re: Bad Ceramic in a Dell 390SFF PSU
Do we happen to know if the 80plus gold variant (H240ES) of these has the same problem?...

Re: UCC made where?
Is it normal: I'm going to say "yes". Just because they are called "Japanese", most capacitors are going to be made in China or Taiwan, even if they are from Panasonic, Rubycon, or NCC. In general if a cap is "chinese" or "taiwanese" or "Japanese" typically is used to refer to the the company that makes them.

Re: wd discontinues its green drive lineup
I actually have 3 of the green drives in use right now. All 3 are in 24/7 operation in my server alongside 3 3TB Toshiba 7200s. I check the SMART data on them regularly, and so far so good. The oldest one has 34k hours on it at this point. I do have my storage server in a Flexraid snapshot Raid-over-filesystem setup in case I lose one. I did lose a green drive once, but it was within 48 hours of purchasing it the bad sectors started to appear. I purchased it retail so it was a quick replacement at the store. Note that I did perform the...

Bad Ceramic in a Dell 390SFF PSU
This thread is also over at JG, I just posted it and don't feel like reposting it over here. We have a lot of these SFF PSUs fail the same way, this little Ceramic blows with a snap crackle and pop. Wonder what's causing them to blow.

Re: Corsair confirmed chinese high-voltage caps have "poor quality in general"
So let me get this straight.... Corsair comes out and agrees that Japanese caps are better..... And they are suddenly evil. Okie doke. Let's get something straight, and oklahomawolf from over on jonnyguru seems to agree with this. Corsair does not make a "bad" power supply. None of them are bad.
If you think they are, I'd point you towards

"ATWY" caps on ~2007 gateway
Hey guys, I pulled an ~2007 era Gateway system out of the closet. It has an AMD Athlon64 X2 +5200, and an ECS motherboard with "ATWY" caps on, which are reddish. None are bulging, but I'm considering cleaning up the system for re-use, and I want to know if it would be worth recapping it, or how bad these caps really aer. I don't recall seeing them on the list.

Re: Anything worse than GSC???
Ahh samcon. My grandfather gave me a 6 year old RCA cheapey 5.1 sound system, that died after about 8 hours of use. When I opened it up it is FULL of Samcon capacitors. One bulged....

Re: The Hall of Shame - Badcaps Photo Montage
I don't yet have pictures, I'll get them later, but on one of those optiplex 320s that had the non-failed rubycons, I grabbed one to mess around with, and after installing ubuntu I realized the power supply fan had completely seized- and it probably had been that way for a while. This prescott powered computer had had a failed power supply fan for sometime and it was still working! I pulled the old Dell power supply and am going to stick an older good bestec in it. Out of curiosity, I opened it up to see if any of the caps had failed....

Re: The Hall of Shame - Badcaps Photo Montage
At this point we are replacing upwards of 700 machines, we don't have time to recap all of them, and they are old enough at this point we are just replacing them. I've grabbed a couple of the 360s for personal use though after they went through donation stuff....

Re: The Hall of Shame - Badcaps Photo Montage
I have a few. I was decomissioning a few Dell Optiplex 320, 330, and 360s that are being replaced as part of a Windows 7 move. All of the 320s that had KZJ series caps had busted caps, the ones with rubycon and panasonic ones were fine. The 320s all had Pentium 4 CPUs in them.
These pics actually are from 3 different Optiplex 320 SFFs. Sorry for the not so great pics I only had my smartphone on me at the time.

Re: Help Identifying Polymers (I hope)
Thanks, I figured as much for the ASUS, but there weren't enough markings on the ASRock CP ones to go on. I was a bit nervous because they look somewhat similar to the infamous Sacon electrolytics packaged in polymer shells....

Help Identifying Polymers (I hope)
Hey guys, I'm looking for a little help identifying the mfr of the caps on a couple of my motherboards. First is the ones on my ASUS P8Z68-V Pro. They appear to be FPCAP which would imply either fujitsu or Nichicon. I just want to confirm.
The others I can't really find much on, they are on my ASRock B75M motherboard which is in my server. Below are the pics, and links to fullsize. Any help you can provide is appreciated. Thanks!
