    Canadian Shipments Suspended

I posted this on the home page too.....but I figured it needed to be here as well. I was just informed by my friends at the Post Office that because of the strike underway in Canada Post, the US Postal Service is no longer accepting ANY First-Class or Priority shipments to Canada. Because of this, the only shipping option the USPS will accept to Canada is Global Express (which will be VERY expensive). Due to this, I will not accept any further Canadian orders until their strike is resolved. If you have a Canadian shipping address and place an order, your order will be cancelled. I am very sorry about this, but it is completely out of my hands!

America, this is what will come to you if you do not learn from the mistake that is Canadian Socialism. No mail for a week now... Ridiculous.

I just got word that the strike is supposed to end Saturday, so if that's true, Canada may be back in business!

WTF? It's a union strike/lockout situation, doesn't that happen in the U.S. too? Blame the unions not "Canadian Socialism"

Certain government employees should not......and cannot strike.
Remember the air traffic controllers during the Reagan addministration.
Some government jobs are so important to our countries commerce, we cannot afford to allow strikes.
Those are the rules....don't like it......don't take the job.

USPS is union as well, but they are forbidden to strike, just to avoid this kind of thing....so we're good.

my dad used to be high ranking in one of the indiana state employee unions... until mitch daniels canned it in 2005. ironically (or not), it was not long after that my dad's job really went down the shitter... they were not crooked or anything... not like the steel unions my dad said no to back in the 70's (he was in high school and had to join to avoid getting his ass kicked). granted the state unions could not strike, but they did do a lot of good. as a kid, I remember going to a union rally in Indianapolis and marching at the statehouse when they tried to scam the employees out of half of their retirement benefits without negotiating. after the rally, the state "changed their mind " (i wonder why...).

my dad's hard learned 3 rules of employment:

rule #1. be careful of internships, as the provided training might make you exempt fromthe fair labor standards act.
                2. do not accept a job where your job descripion includes "other duties as assinged" and you are salaried.
                3. if you do not follow #2, make sure you are union member if the option is there.

                what went wrong:

well, once the union was killed, they began "assigning" my dad (a dietitian) other duties. like writing menus for the wholw facility (they fired the doer of that job), doing the work of the other employee when she quit, playing mediator with unruly patients, etc. what resulted was him working 60 hours a week for 35.5 hour's pay... he also was assigned dish washing duty on a recently operated on foot (it resulted in a painful recovery). he was a salary slave (we give you $x and you be our bitch). a "do more" whore.

there really are 2 sides to the issue... although essential gov't should not be allowed to do a full strike.

Yes it's a 17 year old Panasonic plasma!

I was watching TV when there was a huge lighting strike nearby my house that shook the house. When that happened, the picture on the TV froze and the TV wouldn't turn off except by pulling the power cable. Now if you plug in the TV, it seems to turn on (it makes the turn on "clikcs" it always does, the red power light comes on but there is no picture, although I can see the back light around the edges. And the TV doesn't respond to the power button on the remote to turn off, and doesn't respond to the manual power button on the front...

Lightning Strike: 55" TV dead: is display panel OK?
                      by MrCreosote
                      THE LIGHTNING:
This was a very close strike, blew a 15 amp breaker for all ceiling lights in home AND could smell ozone for a few minutes after strike.

Very close and probably a very strong EMP.

                      THE TV:
No standby LED. Some voltage from PSB (not totally dead).

But found a kit of ALL 4 circuit boards for $55.

At first thought, this will fix my TV.

But then lightning has the ability to totally fry semiconductors. Which would include any or all of the PCBs. However, the display is one big semiconductor and given...

Sony XBR-65Z9D won't turn on after lighting strike
                      by Highvoltagerchelie
Good afternoon. I found this forum as I was looking for troubleshooting information for my Sony z9d. A lightning strike hit very close to the house and did nearly $30,000 in electronics damage. The TV appears completely dead with no status light and no picture. I found the Sony XBR-65Z9D service manual and followed the troubleshooting steps on Pages 21-26. All checks seem normal except DC_OFF_DET check on Page 23 R420 voltage was slightly higher than 3V. It was 3.475V and C418 was slightly higher that the 5V at 5.3V.

I proceeded to check the Power Board CN6401 connector. With all...

Samsung UN60EH6000 wont come on after lightning strike.
                      by karthur
We had a lightning strike a few days ago really close to my house. My Samsung UN60EH6000 was on when it hit. Afterwards, the TV would not come back on.

I had repaired this TV a few years back by replacing the T-Con board. (The post I had on this is repair is here.)

When I turn on the TV, I don't get any start-up melody. The screen just dimly flickers around the edges.

Here is what I have checked.
On the power supply board, 14pin connector:
                      1 :12.7 Vdc
                      3 :12.7
                      5 :12.7
                      7 :12.7
                      9 :0
                      11 :5.
                      13 :5....
