Transformer pins are constructed of steel pin plated with copper, sometimes this a issue. Trust me.

How I found out? They are magnetic and once halved a dead flyback transformer and polished it smooth, this happened to be one of pin got polished as well... showed a layer of copper plating on the steel pin.

Very cool to see how a flyback transformer looks like once you get it polished smooth to see individual turn of the magnet wires, clearly even on high voltage section.

I've taken care of my problem(s) - the picture cutting off was indeed the cold solder joint at C301; the sound "blipping" off is a fault in the comcast cable box.
I contacted WX Digital and have been promised communications with one of their engineering staff. When I get an answer, I'll message back.......

WX go-to guy called me back - engineering couldn't help me because of the "reverse engineering for the blue power-on LED." Sounds like a bunch of hooey to me.
Would someone with a functioning power-on LED trace the source of the power to it, maybe post a photo of the board? I just can't believe that there's not something very simple that would help me to enable functioning of my LED.................
A source for schematics would be REALLY helpful !!!!!!!!!

I know that it has the ABILITY to work since it flashes on whenever the set is either unplugged or plugged in to wall power. The remote sensor on the same board works just fine. I've taken a photo of the board [attached] and even though everything SEEMS to be OK, the silk screened area under the capacitor shows two mounting possibilities; I'm wondering if a different capacitor of whatever size would "enable" the light. I want it to work because without it, we sometimes need to push our power on button on the remote several times before we see backlight and the input source graphics.
          Any ideas???

If the unit is working, the Blue LED light can be controlled via the television software. If you want step by step instructions on how to turn it on, let me know and I would be glad to go through it once I get home tonight.

I realize it might be a different problem for you, but if you are able to, I suggest trying the software approach; it might be as simple as pushing some buttons

That's a very good point - I can disable the blue led in the standard menu system for my LG TV - take a look!

That would be great but I must warn you......the WX tech support guys had me go through the drop-down menu for the settings and there is no on/off setting. If there's another way, I'd be glad to give it a try and, thanks in advance !!!!

I know it probably doesn't help you, but for the hell of it:

Menu > Option > Power Indicator:
                Standby Light: On/Off
                Power Light: On/Off

Thanks for the try, Sean. My WX menus do not include a setting for turning the indicator(s) on or off - that would've been the simple way around this.
Somewhere out there, there must be a schematic floating around; it's almost like trying to scare up a unicorn - you've heard that they exist(?), but no one's ever actually SEEN one..............

OKAY! i am new to the site and to be completely honest I don't know a whole lot about electronics but i can definitely take something apart! I have my tv in pieces and want to thank you guys for posting up all the info! Using your experience, knowledge, and pictures i found a cracked solder joint (c301 i think) NOW i just have to try and solder it again... This should be interesting!

Same here, I just found this thread when Googling on the power supply for an LTV-32W1 , and the pictures from the OP convinced me to take the power supply out (I'd heard a popping, but thought it was either a short or transformer)..well C310 (J on top) right next to T1 has a bad joint. Same lead as the pics on page 2.

What happened here was that when you left the TV plugged in, things would heat up and about 5 minutes after turning on, it would just lose sound and video (LED still blue). I took the back off, powered it up, and it worked, but did same thing...just quit while I was checking 24v power for inverter...I turned it back on immediately, heard that pop, so I thought it was a short, but it was that joint I guess.

So I'm off to solder it, and reassemble.

Update: Still working so far. Thanks forum. (I'm going to have to find some more of these to repair) : )

man, im gonna buy every one of these tvs i can..

$35 investment and $.25 worth of solder fixed her right up. Had cold solder all over but broken bad right at that black component just like everyone else.

I have the box and everything. This should be an easy flip.

badcaps comes through again!! I LOVE this place!!!!

I was having the same symptoms. My board also has a cracked 310. Also had to touch up a couple others. Now I have sound, still no picture. Any ideas?

Wow, thanks for this information! The C310 solder joint on my LTV-32w1 was cracked exactly like yours. A touch-up with my pencil iron, and it's working fine!

                                Thanks again!

Hi - I dont htink you can expect much help resurrecting a 2year old thread. You can use the thread but need to start again. This is what I ask of new members.
Welcome to the forum- Please update the mains voltage in your profile.
We can help a lot more if you please post good clear pictures of the whole chassis, and then pictures of each board, front and back and close up of connectors, (max resolution 2000x2000 and 2MB) using the manage attachments button, which is found by clicking "go advanced" under quick reply.

Please do not post inline and offsite as they slow down the loading of pages.

Hey guys, bit stumped with this laptop after replacing 2 blown components i.e., MP86493, MP2979A.

To begin with, this laptop was dead-dead.

                                            Now with replaced (visibly) blown components, i do get some progress; after connecting battery or main cable;
                                            • am getting white power led
                                            • 5-long-flashes on CAPS Lock and NUM lock
                                            • then, fan full speed
                                            • CPU heats up some (smaller die PCH, does not)
                                            • always constant black screen no matter what's tried
                                            • no USB recognition
                                            • no HDMI output
this is as far as I can get with it and not sure where to inspect next ?

                                            I tried...

                                            Greetings friends.

I was given this nice little laptop and would like to revive it if possible but i'm stuck identifying blown components. I'm very new to the repair game so i'm proceeding very cautiously.

I don't know the history of this laptop and the donator didn't elaborate what happened but it seems some moisture got into the USB C charge port and the result was what looks like some blown caps. The tell is some gunk inside the USB C port and corrosion on the outside as well as what looks like corrosion around the blown components.

                                            Any guidance...

Normally, I never post repairs this quick after I do them, because… I am usually very slow. But today, I’m making an exception here. Why? No idea. Perhaps only because the repair details are still “fresh” in my head… which is ironic, given this is a 16 year old monitor that hardly anyone will care about today. It is new to me, though. I picked it up last November from someone on my local Craigslist. It wasn’t very close to where I live, but was close to a family friend that I had to go visit anyways. So after watching the posting on Craigslist for a few weeks and seeing it getting...

LG 42LB5D (42LB5DF-UL) from 2008-01, unit is in good shape and no obvious heat damage or cracked solder on the boards.

                                            Problem:
On first power-up the power LED flashes green about 18x and then stays solid. No backlight or image is present. Click power button, wait 10s for a click and the LED turns red. Wait 1-2s and hit power again and maybe it'll power up fully after 6 green flashes. If it doesn't light up on the sixth flash then the cycle repeats.

It seems that if the mainboard power is left on for a few minutes (solid green power, no backlight, no image)...

                                            Hi folks,

I'm new to this forum. So my trusty 17-year-old LG 47" LCD recently died. As I was booting it up, I heard a hum followed by a loud bang, sounds of pieces flying around, and loss of power to the unit. Inspecting the PSU, I saw two obvious problems: a blown thermistor (bang + flung pieces) and a visibly bulging main cap. Inspecting as many components as I could with my Fluke MM, I diagnosed that the following components on the "hot side" of the board were also bad: one of the 2 main MOSFETs, main 8A fuse, small cap (25V 47uF) connected to main caps, and a blown...
