    Interpreting Service Manual Troubleshooting Steps

    Hello
    I'm troubleshooting a dead Sony XBR-65X810C.
I was able to find a service manual from one of the posts here.
I was able to get through the steps highlighted in yellow, but need some help with next steps. See attached Picture.
    Next step says:
    Check OPWRSB
    R9179 Voltage.
    Is the voltage 0V?

    and one after says:
    Check STBY_MHL
    R9176 Voltage.
    Is the voltage >3.0V?

These are referring to the same resistor, what does OPWRSB and STBY_MHL stand for?
I measured voltage on both ends of that resistor and got 0V (millivolts).

So you have 3 volts on R9186?

Re: Interpreting Service Manual Troubleshooting Steps

I don't know what "OPWRSB" stands for. It seems to refer to a control pin on a microprocessor in other manuals., without a schematic, it will be hard to trace the circuit, R9179 & R9176 don't seem to be the same resistor.
If the voltage on R9179 IS 0 volts, then proceed to the YES and check Power_ON

Re: Interpreting Service Manual Troubleshooting Steps

Thank you RJ, my bad, I read both Resistors as the same number, I actually checked R9176 and got 0V.
            So next step says:

            Check POWER_ON
            P-on ucom #pin19
            Is the voltage >3.0V?

I'm not sure about this again, as there is no pin#19 on any of the boards that is named POWER_ON. I checked POWER_ON pin on the main board which is Pin#22 and Pin#9 on the Power board, they both have 3.5V.

So that takes me to the next step:
            Check P_ON_LNB
            P-on ucom #pin15
            Is the voltage >3.0V?

Again there is no Pin#15 on any boards that are called P-ON_LNB.
But I searched the Service Manual for P-ON_LNB anywhere else and its on another troubleshooting tree referencing R9167.
            "Check P_ON_LNB signal line
            at R9167 = 3.3V?"
So I checked R9167 and has 0V on both ends. So that would point to > Change IC9017.

Any idea if I'm interpreting this correctly?
If IC9017 is suspect, would you suggest I try to heat it up enough to re-flow the solder? Or I should be able to find a replacement.?

Thank you for your help getting me this far.
            Cheers

Looks like that chip is a 20 pin, 8bit flash microcontroller made by Microchip
              https://cdn.badcaps-static.com/pdfs/...07d0b1414e.pdf
and if it is then it most probably programmed by Sony

It may well be that it supervises the power on sequence.
Check it has its supply voltage on pin 1 (VDD)

I believe these boards have a few smd fuses that would be worth checking, like F9005 (in the picture) I believe this fuse is next to the letters IC in IC9004

I also see on shopjimmys site that these boards require a software update after replacing, so it is possible there is a software issue with the board.

Re: Interpreting Service Manual Troubleshooting Steps

Sorry for the delay, I don't have much time to work on this.
                  THank you for your inputs.
I found maybe 7 or 8 fuses on the main board, all of them had either 12 or 5V on both sides of each fuse. So they are all good.
I also checked pin1 of IC9017 and it has 3.5V.
As far as software goes. When I plug a usb stick and plug the TV in it does not even light up, so its not reading anything.
Any other ideas I could try?

These boards are expensive and out of stock everywhere.
I found a place in Tuscon, AZ (Nicks TV Repair) who repairs these boards, for $185 +shipping.
This looks like the best option I found.

Have you tried a forced reboot?
At the start, unplug your SONY XBR-65X810C from the power source and wait for about 2 minutes. Now press and hold the Power button and Volume - button together on your SONY XBR-65X810C TV. Then plug the TV back into the power source. Wait until the LED light turns green, then release both buttons.

I think I have tried this reboot, but may have not followed exactly as you said. So will try again and let you know.
Now currently I don't get any LEDs to come on at all.
                        thank you

Let's start from the begin, don't read service manuals for now, have you got time to repair this? Does tv makes any sign of life? If not detach the power board and test it at bench by forcing it on and better putting dummy loads.

                              Hello Davi,
thank you for trying to help me out.
I'm good to start from the beginning.
I was not available for a while but I now have 2 weeks where I can work on this, and hope to get this fixed.

So I disconnected everything from the power board and got the following results.
                              Testing GL6 Power board
                              Main board connector disconnected
                              3.5 STDBY only
                              Main board connector connected
                              Pins:
                              AC_OFF_DET: 3.5V
                              POWER_ON: 3.5V
                              REG12V: 12.7V present
                              Pins: STDBY and Tcon_ON shorted
                              TCon_VCC12V: 12.7V

                              Backlights connector
                              Pins:
                              +OUT1: 98.6V
                              -OUT1: 0V
Pins: STDBY and BL ON shorted
                              Pins:
                              +OUT1: 220V
                              -OUT1: 80V
                              No Backlights ON

Not sure how to stimulate loads.
THanks again, hope you can still help.

That should be around 20V range, 80V is way too high.
Is that measured with ref. to circuit ground?

                                    Thanks for your response.

                                    Yes ref. is ground.
Would simulating some load help in troubleshooting the BL circuit?

I just picked up an XBR55800G for free that powers up but has a broken screen.
the main board is different but the power board looks identical, GL6 board,
I;'ll check the numbers tomorrow when I open it up.

Can I see the pictures of the whole backside of the TV showing all the boards so I can see what we are dealing with?

                                          by Alain Renteria
Got it for free on marketplace because it stopped working after a storm.

When I began troubleshooting the power supply, I fried 2 fuses and a mosfet by shorting 2 pins on accident, but I've replaced those components.

The tv had a soundbar connected, which was also killed by the storm. On the tv side I found a transistor shorted on the hdmi 2 (arc) and a lot of capacitors shorted on the main board.

Disconnecting and reconnecting the psu to main board cable, while still being connected to 120 V AC, would wake things up, such as a red light from the optical...

Dell Optiplex 7010 micro bad BIOS flash?
                                          by mrrubik
                                          Hi folks,

I got a Dell Optiplex 7010 micro PC (Exact Model) with 8FC8 BIOS and locked out admin password. I attempted to remove the password by patching the BIOS via info from this thread: https://www.badcaps.net/forum/troubl...ssword-patcher
After flashing the patched the BIOS, the PC is unresponsive with a solid AMBER power LED (not documented in manual anywhere)

                                          Steps I took:
                                          1. Read BIOS with CH341a, verified hash twice
                                          2. Patched
                                          ...

                                          Hello from France,
mon2 kindly advised me to post a thread to ask the question(s) I'm concerned about. I'm new to the forum and I'm looking for practical courses for troubleshooting pc motherboards especially laptops in Europe, if possible in France. I have been a computer network system administrator and a corrector of administration modules for automated programs under Unix. But I really miss the practical "ops" side of troubleshooting. So I would like to start from the beginning: 1.8V, 3.3V, 5V and 19V tests for example, etc...
Do you think this is feasible for me? I...

                                          good morning all,

i purchased a used dell e6540 laptop used 10 months ago from a vendor on ebay. intel i-7 processor, 16 gb ddr3 memory, 256 gb ssd., mobo la-9413p (rev 1.0 dated 2014-08-04). i've inflicted no damage on it since purchase but its past is unknown. starting 2 weeks ago it began to fail to boot (initially 9 of 10 boot attempts failed, now 10 of 10 fail). there was no new hardware or software added (i was using as a kodi video server). the post process doesn't complete and booting no longer displays the dell logo screen - screen remains black with no backlight. some other...

                                          Hi everyone,

I'm hoping someone might be able to offer some guidance on repairing a Wine Enthusiast N'finity 170 bottle wine cellar, model 273 02 70.

I recently acquired this unit for free via Facebook Marketplace, hoping to fix it up as a gift for my wife. I have some basic electronic skills (comfortable with a multimeter, basic soldering, identifying components) but I'm definitely not an advanced technician.

The main challenge is that when I picked up the unit, the main control/power board had already been removed and the previous owner said it needs a...
