Need help with resistor value please

Can someone please tell me the value of the resistor pictured? Can you tell me the exact resistor I need to order to replace it? Thanks in advance!

Re: Need help with resistor value please

Why do you want to replace it? What are you trying to fix?
    It looks like RED-RED-SILVER = 0.22 Ohms.
    Gold = 5% Tol.
    Green = Temp Co. NA.

Re: Need help with resistor value please

Hey budm, I am working on a Vizio M65-C1 and when I got it it had no power. I watch a Youtube video of someone that has the same problem with the same model TV. I replaced a resistor and diode that he showed on the power supply. When I powered up the TV it came on for a second and blew the same resistor again. It's a SMD resistor mounted on the bottom of the board. So I got to checking components in the area of the SMD resistor and found that the resistor, like the one pictured, has no resistance whatsoever. So I am thinking it is bad. I am posting another picture of the actual resistor. It seems to have a small bulge on the side of it.

Re: Need help with resistor value please

When you say it has no resistance whatsoever do you mean? It's a very low resistance resistor, lower than the average set of test leads so it will show low. Or do you mean it shows open?

Checked it again and I guess maybe it's not bad after all. Does anyone know of any known issues on the M65-C1 power supply board that could be repaired? Do you know if there's a repair kit for this board?

                So it is Brown-Red-Silver = 0.12 Ohms.

0.12 Ohms make no sense to put in PWB design .. they will use F or FB or 1R to protect certain parts

                    Is this your board? https://www.shopjimmy.com/vizio-adtv...ly-for-m65-c1/

If you look at the bottom side of the board you will see the followings:

                    1) R9114 (protection resistor), D9103, C9103 are for making running DC from AUX winding of Standby power supply transformer T9101 to run the Standby SMPS IC9101, that DC is also fed to switched Transistor Q9102 to supply the switched VCC to run the PFC IC9801, 12V/24V SMPS IC9201

                    2) What is the original D9103 P/N number? What did you replace with?

                    3) Was original R9114 blown? What was the printed on the body? What resistance value did you replace it with? Does it blow up when you first apply the power to TV or AFTER TV is turned on?

                    4) R9101 (0.12 Ohms) is the current sensing resistor connected between Source pin of MOSFET Q9101 (for driving Standby power transformer T9101) and Hot side Ground.

So in the beginning before you work on the power supply board, you were not getting ANY DCV from the power supply board connector to the main board?

Please give the link to the Video that you use to try to fix this board.

                      Yes this is my board.

                      Original 621-PR1007G-T
                      Replaced with 1N4007FFG

                      3) Was original R9114 blown? What was the printed on the body? What resistance value did you replace it with? Does it blow up when you first apply the power to TV or AFTER TV is turned on?
The original R9114 was blown (had a hole in the center of it). I replaced it with the same part number and resistance value. When I first plugged the TV in after replacing the resistor and diode, the led light on the main board was solid red, instead of flashing, so I thought I had it fixed. When I turned the TV on, the V logo came up on the screen and I then I heard a pop and that's when the same resistor blew again.

                      4) R9101 (0.12 Ohms) is the current sensing resistor connected between Source pin of MOSFET Q9101 (for driving Standby power transformer T9101) and Hot side Ground.

I didn't actually check that budm. I just replaced what I saw in the video because I was having the same symptoms.

Please give the link to the Video that you use to try to fix this board.

Re: Need help with resistor value please

                        2) What is the actual printing on the diode D9103?
"Original 621-PR1007G-T" 621-xxxxx is Mouser P/N, it is Fast recovery diode.
"Replaced with 1N4007FFG" that is standard recovery diode not Fast recovery diode used in switching power supply.

                        3) So what is printed on the R9114, what is the resistance value?
From that link, the blown up in the picture one looks like 1R0 (1 Ohm).
When TV is turned on, more current will flow through that resistor due to current drawn from PFC and SMPS circuit.

You need to check the resistance between GND and the VCC pin pf the PFC IC9801 and the 12V/24V SMPS IC9201 to see if they show low Ohms value or not.

We are talking about R9114 SMD resistor, not the R9101 0.12 Ohm current sensor resistor for the power MOSFET which the value is critical value for setting the over current trip point, the value of the current sensing resistor is based on the circuit design..so it still holds true that R9101 is 0.12 Ohm.
FB = Ferrite bead INDUCTOR used for blocking high frequency, not for over current protection, it can be as simple as piece of wire through Ferrite bead.

It makes complete sense to use the low resistance value (<1 Ohms) in the circuit as designed and for its function.
You can clearly see as to what R9101(0.12 Ohms) is used for, very simple topology: Low side current sensing.

What bad design are you talking about? I use resistor as current sensing in 100's of power products I design and as so many power supplies design out there in the world.
Do you understand what the current sensing is about?
                                      Show me the circuits.
Is Unitrode using Rsense bad design? May be you know more about power supply design than UNTRODE, POWER iNTEGARTION, FAIRCHILD, Ti, etc.
The topology has been in use for decades.
You should read up on spec sheet and application notes of SMPS sometime then you will understand.
You can ask anybody here at BC that deals with power supplies and see if they think it is bad design to have current sensing circuits.
Any one out there want to answer this beside me?
                                      https://cdn.badcaps-static.com/pdfs/...b1b3743513.pdf

BTW, why are you referring to 'HOT AREA MB'?
You do know what R9114 is located and know what it is used for, correct?

                                          Hi

I am trying to repair an ancient Dell 2209WA Monitor which suddenly shut off with a pop sound. On investigation found that one of the fusible resistors had blown. Further investigation identified multiple components as faulty because of which the fusible resistor blew. Please refer the attached circuit diagram showing the components that were found to be damaged.

                                          1. FR950 - blown fusible resistor - 0.2 Ohm 1W

                                          Hi to all forum members,

Got this faulty 350 watt atx psu dirt cheap from a local online seller as i am keen to use it as a learning tool to repair faulty power supply.
The faulty part is quite obvious from the burn area near the 16pin KA7500 BD pwm. The fuse is still intact with good continuity.

Upon power on ac, there is 5vdc standby power on cathode of diode D14 and about 10vdc on cathode of diode D13.(This should be the aux power to generate the 12v and 5v rail.)
Initially i replace the two burned resistors near my marked red arrow to 200 ohm resistor...

I am curious if a 0402 resistor could go from 43 ohm to 0. In electronics class and my experience a resistor can degrade and gain resistance all the way up to not being able to conduct at all. I have never heard of a resistor decreasing in resistance and becoming 0 ohm or a dead short… that's not the direction they fail… or so I thought.

I was attempting to remove a wson8 chip on an iMac motherboard and it required a lot of heat, on one side of the chip were 3 0402 resistors that were very close. I popped the chip out unintentionally out of the tweezers and sent those resistors...

The resistor on this waterpik blew. I changed it with the a similar spec 47ohm 2 watt yageo resistor but it still keeps blowing the resistor. Checking with the multimeter the motor, capacitor, diodes, and thermal fuse all checked normal. Will a higher ohm resistor work better? What ohm resistor will work better to repair this waterpik? I have purchased an 100-240v AC/5v 2a DC adaptor from aliexpress, and a month ago It smelled burning when I plugin it powerstrip.
Since then, This AC/DC adaptor have been out of order.
But A few days ago,I replace 0.5 watt resistor with 1 watt resistor(1ohm) in this adapter.
