    Dell 2209WA - power supply - Fusible Resistor replacement

    Hi

    I am trying to repair an ancient Dell 2209WA Monitor which suddenly shut off with a pop sound. On investigation found that one of the fusible resistors had blown. Further investigation identified multiple components as faulty because of which the fusible resistor blew. Please refer the attached circuit diagram showing the components that were found to be damaged.

    1. FR950 - blown fusible resistor - 0.2 Ohm 1W
    2. Q950 - shorted Q950 MOSFET - 650V 10A N Channel Mosfet
    3. R835 - Blown Resistor - 20KOhm SMD resistor
    4. D930 - Shorted Schottkey Diode 150V/5A

    While i can find replacements for most of the parts i cannot find a replacement for a fusible resistor. Can i replace the fusible resistor with standard 0.2 ohm resistor. If not then can i use a standard fuse, but how do i find the current rating of the fuse ?

      You can choose between Wire Wound, Carbon Film, Metal Film and Thick Film resistors. If the resistor is in a high voltage application circuit, you may want a Flame Proof resistor in its place.

              I thought it might be damaged but did not know how to test it. Now that you have said i think i will replace it anyways. Thanks

              CapLeaker thanks but any idea why a fusible resistor is used instead of a normal fuse. A 0.2-ohm resistance is practically zero. The voltage will be the mains voltage around 400 V. The circuit that generates VBUS is shown below

                  Think about what a fuse does and what a resistor does. The fuse blows and the circuit is broken. A fusible resistor limits current to a certain degree, resistance increases as it gets hotter (limiting more current), then blows. The fuse would have blown long time ago. Probably more about reliability, so you don’t change fuses all the time for the weirdest reasons.
                  Another reason why a fusible resistor is used, plain and simple cost. The resistor is cheaper than a fuse. Corporate cost cutting at its best!

                      Hey everyone,

                      I recently bought a Dell G15 5515 with an AMD Ryzen 7 5800H and 3060 RTX. The BIOS chip on it was dead, and my hardware guy replaced the chip. After that, everything was working fine.

                      The BIOS is currently at version 1.22.1, and I wanted to update it. I downloaded the latest BIOS version from Dell Support using my ST: FQZMYJ3, but when I tried to run it, it says "unsupported system." I asked my tech guy what he did, and he said he took the chip from another board and flashed it onto mine.

                      I have a Dell Latitude 5530 with a damaged RJ45 network connector. See the attached pictures.

                      Have already searched on Farnell / Aliexpress / Ebay and had contact with several suppliers on Aliexpress and Ebay, but they cannot deliver this connector.

                      My question pertains to understanding the control circuity inside a Dell PT434 type battery used in Dell E6400, E6410 and other Dell notebooks?

                      Does anyone have a circuit diagram for the inside of a Dell PT434 battery and/or a description of how the control lines work to control this battery?

                      My reason for asking is I have a battery which I cannot get to charge beyond 1% in a Dell E6410 or E6400.

                      Dell Latitude 7420 - Touchscreen not working since Mainboard replacement

                      Hi everyone,

                      I've got a little "problem child": my Dell Latitude 7420 2-in-1, which had a faulty mainboard.
                      I replaced it, but ever since, the touchscreen no longer works — and honestly, I’m running out of ideas…

                      In Windows Device Manager, I just see an I2C HID Device with error code 10. Sporadically, the touchscreen is recognized correctly for just a few seconds, but I haven’t been able to determine under which circumstances this happens.

                      The touchscreen also doesn’t work in UEFI/BIOS, although it’s enabled...

                      Need help to identify and to locate a 0.33 ohms fusible resistor for power supply

                      I have a quad charger that is split into 4 separate sections and one section doesn’t charge anymore. I have located what I think is a thermistor and on the shrink tube it says 125 degrees C. I cut the shrink tube and it's a 33 ohms resistor. It measures a little less than 1/2 inch in length. I am including pictures of it. Please help me identify it. So, it should test at 0.4ohms and probably go up in resistance with the rise in temp. On the board it clearly says R for resistor. But it has to be a special one.
                      Resistor shows orange range silver gold and green lines.
