Panasonic 50CX680 Tcon board fix need help

So basically I was at work one day when the missus said the TV was on then all of a sudden went black and she still had sound.

The TV is an LCD and so the backlight was fine. When I initially dismantled the TV I dismantled the front screen before realising it doesnt have LEDs. My fault for assuming. Anyway I suspected it was the Tcon board.

So today a new Tcon board arrived and away I went and changed it. When it first booted up I got a picture looked fine, happy days. Then it went to some vertical lines before disappearing but then the picture came back albeit being very dull and not looking great.

Could this just be a case of ribbons not sat perfectly now and require a bit of cleaning? I've attached some photos to give you better picture of what I mean.

I've got a picture so that's a start. Just getting it too look right now.

So the standby light on the front didn't/doesn't blink or anything?

On the TCon check fuse FP1 on both sides for voltages.

All of that works, you hear sound when you turn it on and get a very distorted picture or black at tines.

          @capleaker I will give that a try.

It's a panasonic, sometimes you get a blink code, the question was, DOES the standby light on the front blink??

sounds like tab bonds or a bad driver. Disconnect only one side of the TCon and see what happens to the screen.

I checked both sides of this fuse and got a solid 12v DC

When i plug the power in I get a red standby light which flashes one then lets say around 5secs later goes to Orange standby light.

Should I do this when its turned on or off?

Edit: I powered it off before disconnecting each ribbon cable. Anyway first picture is before. Second is left tcon (as looking at back) disconnected then third is right tcon.

Are you on about the tabs at the bottom of the driver or ribbon cables from Tcon to drivers or board to Tcon?

he means the pins on the tcon. Could be that, could be a bad cable, could be a few things. look at the bottom of the LCD at the tab bonds for water damage.

your two picture of the disconnected cables appear to show an issue somewhere with the bottom edge boards... based on the "one" vertical line on the side that is disconnected. Its hard for the tcon to cause this line since the cable to the tcon has been disconnected. When you did your first "tear down", how much of the set did you "tear down"?

I never took the bottom drivers out, however I did take all the front screen filters and bezel off when I was looking for backlight that didn't exist. 🤔😵

Ok guys. I've taken the shield off both drivers to have a good inspection of them. They don't seem to have suffered any water damage. To me it looks ok but your eyes might notice something different. The pins into drivers looked ok also. I might take the bezel off again incase I trapped some tabs when putting it back together a while ago.

One thing I have noticed is that on left side (back of TV) all the silver caps as such are all grey / black on top. Where as the ones on the right are yellowish/silver.

Underneath the tab bonds, some areas of them look black on the picture. Picture 3 the middle two tabs.

With TV off, plug both white ribbon cables into the TCONN board and the Panel. Check all connections to see if they are straight and tight.

Turn TV on, and feel each gold flex cable GENTLY with your finger tip for excess heat from one of the COF (chip-on-flex) ICs integrated into the gold panel ribbon flex cables... I wonder if one of these ICs has burnt out.

Thanks for the advice I currently have the screen off and looking.

I should've mentioned that the original Tcon board had black signal only. So I just bought a Tcon board of eBay. When I first put it in everything was perfect like I had a new TV. Then that's when it started to get worse with 20mins again and go to how I've shown in pictures. Could something else be causing the Tcon board to fuck up?

The first one on the right. Directly under the ribbon is considerably hotter than the others

I was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.

Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.

I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.

The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.

With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

                                          Assuming...

Hi, this is my personal laptop, which the original board (lets call it Board A) blew up PU8700 (TPS51486), making a hole on the board, i had left the laptop at my desk one day with the battery fully charged and didn't touch it for a week, but when i tried to turn it on it didn't
Thought the battery was dead, so i plugged in the charger then tried to power on, the power LED blinked once, charged LED still orange, unplugged the charger, plugged in again and I noticed the "magic smoke" smell, so i unplugged the charger, removed the back cover and saw the blown IC (the "magic...

Panasonic switching power supply daughter board has two 27uf @ 50 volt capacitors which I do not keep in stock

I did not have any 27uf @ 50 volt capacitors but one nice thing is that it has enough room for two capacitors in parallel a 22uf and a 4.7uf @ 50 volts 22 plus 4.7 equals 26.7uf which so very close to 27uf I will show some pictures of it sometime tomorrow

This is one of the shit est boards I seen in a very long time and it was the daughter board the traces just lifting off the board I had to use the capacitor leads to repair the the traces and the main board is not any better because I had to repair several traces for the daughter board to the main board

                                          After all of...

All left and right refers to looking from rear of TV (or looking from front with TV upside down)
                                          • TV came with vertical bars and no image. Found faulty TVS on left buffer board. Also replaced T-Con (may have damaged the original while hot air removing components, board has slight warp) and have full image but few horizontal lines on the screen. Some of the lines appears to be 2 pixel tall while others are 1 pixel tall.
                                          • Disconnecting left and right buffer board potentially reveals problems on both sides with different signals (unless this T-Con require jumper like Samsung FB_TRDY1&3) Fault

                                          Hi everyone!
I happened several times, in the search for help from the web, to consult this very interesting forum.
So I decided to sign up and I intend to participate actively by making available my knowledge and experience on the subject, I'm a new user but at the same time I'm old in the sense that I have 4 decades of experience in repairing and designing electronics but above all I'm a great passionate about the subject.

Having said that I come to the gist of my post on the forum as the title suggests.
