Hi all I've been given this tv and when on its like the colours are running fella that gave it me said it was on the wall and there is no way the screen has been impacted by anything. If I press the home button and exit it's like the icons are still there but running. When first powered up there it's very thin black lines across the screen from left to right. I'll upload some pics of the screen and it's issues. Thanks in advance for any advice given.

Re: Sony KDL50W685A colour problem
was it on a fixed wall mount or articulated one.... if articulated, people use the frame of the set to adjust the viewing angle. Doing this a lot can cause a "stress issue" with the panel impacting the tabs that have been mentioned. Depending on the panel design, sony has been "know" to having issues with the tabs at each corner of the set that connect the edge boards to the panel. As suggested, try checking these with light pressure to see if things change.

Re: Sony KDL50W685A colour problem
you might not want to give up to quickly.... it could maybe be save if you do some checking on the endpoints of that tab. It may be that only one trace is an issue and you might be able to "tack" a fine wire running from the one endpoint to the other.
Still further, depending on the desgin... are there tabs along the bottom/top and the sides?
IF there are only tabs along the bottom / top, you might be able to use the "tape cutoff" method which uses a bit of tape to block that signals / voltages at the tcon. There are various posts about this technique. If you are lucky, the set may be recovered.
One other test that you can try. disconnect the tcon to panel cable that is for the side that corresponds with the tab that you pictured and see what the result is. this may indicate is the panel has more OR less issues and maybe saveable or not.
looking closer at your picture, it is likely that the track(s) involved don't touch the main portion of the tab that holds the source driver which is good. You might get lucky if you follow my suggestions.Last edited by budwich; 02-27-2019, 11:01 PM.

Re: Sony KDL50W685A colour problem
Hopefully nothing on T-CON board is damaged when that trace burn out due to short circuit.
BTW, that is the only damage you found on all the flexible PCB? The way the image is shown on the screen, it looks like more than half for the screen is bad.Last edited by budm; 02-27-2019, 11:46 PM.Never stop learning
