    Insignia NS-L46Q120-10A

Was gifted a 46" Insignia LCD TV.

TV was turn-key okay, except for the solarized image.

Tested volts at the video gamma tests points and came back with:

    1. 16.02
    2. 15.75
    4. 10.68
    6. 6.68
    8. 6.33
    10. 7.82
    ...etc

    Ordered a used-tested-ok T CON board from China: 42T06-C07 T420HW04 for an easy $30

Image was washed out (https://imgur.com/a/PmF5HhR) <- Imgur album

    VG points tested at:

    1. 15.20
    2. 15.02
    4. 11.72
    6. 10.47
    8. 9.41
    10. 8.05
    11. 7.85
    12. 7.23
    13. 6.71
    15. 4.77
    17. 3.63
    19. 2.67
    21. 0.63
    22. 0.31

I'm far from an expert but these seem okay. I did a search here and saw there's common issues with the AS15 chips. I did notice that the chip on the left got far more hot than the chip on the right. I assume this is my problem?

I've never replaced a chip before and I'm certain I'm not setup for that kind of repair. I'm also assuming I could have someone test the old chip/board and swap the two if that's the issue? Or would it be more cost effective to return the "new" board and just purchase an actual new one from Shop Jimmy?

This is my first post here and I'm a newbie at all this so please bear with me!

Did you flick open the two connector tabs on the Tcon to re-insert them back in and then flick them back down to lock them in place. Unclear from your photo if they are inserted all the way in.

There's an Imgur album included in the post. There's not really much more to show other than what I included.

Yeah, those ribbon connectors are locked properly in place.

I went ahead and purchased a new TV because it was a great price, but I'd still like to repair this Insignia just to learn and to keep it from going in the trash. I'm going to return the T Con board and buy a new one just to deduce that as the issue.

You most likely received a 'bad' T-CON Bd. Another 'working' T-CON Bd. should fix your issue.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/INSIGNIA-NS...ty!43616!US!-1 One there for 38 bucks free shipping or is this where you got it from? two possible clues that it might be a reputable seller, 100 % feedback rating and a top rated seller.

This is the one I purchased. I've been in contact about a refund but I get the feeling they're going to say they noted it's for 42" tv's only, but it's the same board, shouldn't it be interchangeable?

I might get another board from the place you linked tho. That would be wise.

              edit:

I went ahead and bought it. Why the hell not. It's a good price and it's apparently 100% operational.

Check this, looks like there's the part and the two substitute parts that shopjimmy knows of. http://www.shopjimmy.com/auo-55-46t0...-con-board.htm

Yep, I see that that one is a good substitute, so they can't deny your refund on that basis, if they stonewall you, elevate it, that's what buyer protection is for, sometimes you just end up with a bad board, might have been an honest mistake but you can't pay good money for a bad board, would be like buying a quarter pounder at mickeydees open the box and there's just two buns there, lol.

They're stonewalling me on the basis that the board would be fine if I were using it in a 42" TV, not the 46" I have.

Is there some documentation I could provide to show that the boards are the same? I mean, besides the identical numbers...

Well theres that shopjimmy info in post #8, shopjimmy is used by a lot of the pro tv fixers, if they say they interchange, it's a pretty safe bet that they do.

They're being a$$holes about it, I would tell them it's a bad board and your escalating AND since they are being jerks about it, they also will get a bad feedback rating, unless they want to do the right thing. Seems like they don't know how ebay works if they think they can get away with selling junk.

The PCBA P/N as printed on the bar code sticker matched your original board bar code sticker?
                          Example: http://www.shopjimmy.com/auo-55-46t0...-con-board.htm

                          42T06-C07 T420HW04 V1 is the BLANK circuit board P/N.
55.46T03.C23 is PCBA (Printed circuit board assembly) P/N which the board is stuffed with parts for particular LCD panel.

The one you bought from EBAY, the seller did not provided the PCBA P/N only the blank board P/N.
Blank board can be stuffed to make many different PCBA's.

Ok, it was just the board number, Part Number: 55.46T03.C23
                            Board Number(s): 42T06-C07, T420HW04 V1
Substitute Parts: 55.42T06.C07, 55.31T06.C21, the part number and sub. parts numbers are what you need to match up, I was thinking that you had 55 in front of your 42T06.

If the numbers don't match, then looks like the fault was yours but you can always resell it, it's probably a good board, just a mismatch if the numbers don't match your board or shopjimmys known substitute boards.

                                42T06-C07 T420HW04 V1 is the BLANK circuit board P/N.

                                Ah.

                                Old Board: 55*46*T03C23

                                New: 55*42*T6C12

So, they specified only for 42" TV's because although the P/N numbers are the same, the PCBA P/N apparently specifies for a 42" TV.

So, they clarified it's only for a 42" TV, but I was going off the P/N number's matching, but they did say it's only for 42", so...hmm. I guess we're at an impasse. I'll clarify the situation and politely ask for a refund, if not, I guess I'll just sell the new board on ebay or something.

You were going by matching the blank PCB P/N instead of matching the PCB and PCBA number, that is the key. Live and learn.

Hey, I got this board installed yesterday and all issues are solved. Thanks for this heads up, great price and the TV works now.

Thanks to everyone for their help, this kind of repair is a whole new world to me and gotta say, I'm kind of intrigued. I think I might find another inoperable TV and work on repairing it. Down another rabbit hole I guess...
