Sony Vizio E601i-a3, logo comes up then light blue screen

I have yet to obtain this TV but the report is the logo comes up when it's turned on then goes to a light blue screen. I'm more looking for an idea of what may be up than a solid diagnosis.

I have a Vizio E601i-a3 with a broken screen for parts. I'm not sure the parts in that TV are relevant but I'm inclined to go look at this thing just for that reason.

So would anyone have any ideas what to look for?

With the 'little' information given, I would say T-CON Bd., Panel or Main Bd. in that order.

So is it Sony or Vizio?
Try to find out what the history of the TV as to what happen before it went bad, anyone try to fix it before, anyone try to do an update FW and then it failed, etc.

t-con was replaced, those panels look like they are kinda crappy from what I hear.

Well actually I bet its a Funai. Report: TV was working, went in to brush teeth, came back out and no picture. T-con replaced and nothing changed. No firmware updates applied. Problem is constant.

I'll be going to look at it tomorrow and I'll know more then. Just glad to know it could be a display issue. Thanks for letting me know that!

And it looks like the only thing Funai and Vizio have in common are lawsuits. Sheesh

If replacing the T-CON Bd didn't return picture then I would say it 90% bad panel, which might be fixable as there are some ceramic caps on the long panel board/s that short out and blank the picture information.

Thank you for that! Is there any way to confirm that easily in the field, like disconnecting one of the ribbon cables out of the t-con or something?

Looks like I'm on my own, guess I'll do the best I can.

you can always try this... is it easy "in the field"... guess that depends on how much space you have.

I think space will be OK. I'm not sure if I'll do that or not, depends on the problems that present and the price for the unit. If its super cheap I'll probably wind up with it anyways.

                      Thanks budwich for the reply.

To do any inspection at your bench or out in the field you will have to:
                        1) Do good visual inspection on all the boards, top and bottom side, see if all the connectors are in correct place or not and if they are seated properly.
                        2) See if any modification was done.
                        3) Verify if the correct parts were installed by the seller or not, and if the parts are actually good.
                        4) Check Voltages, which means you have to know how the TV works.
                        5) Go on line to see what the common failure or complaint it has on that particular model.
                        6) Go to shopjimmy to see how much the replacement boards will cost and if they are available.
                        7) Etc.

It is not simple if you really try to figure out if you will want to buy that broken TV to fix or not.
So basically you are on your own once you go out there in the field, but it is matter of common sense and from building up the experience, like I always said ' You can not be really good at something until you learn and understand the basic first'. People ask me to to teach them how to fix TV but they do not even know what the Diode, Transistor, MOSFET are or how they work but want to jump into repairing the TV down to component level without knowing how to TV functions let alone how to use the meter properly.
BYW, safety is the FIRST priority.

X2.... isn't that why the internet is here... every one can become an "graduated technician"... :-)

I am actually surprised that there aren't more reports of electrocuted DIY'er wannabes in the news.

It has a bad panel. I did not buy it. For now I'll stick with the cheap and freebie stuff and try not to have a shocking experience.

You all helped me make a good decision here and for that I thank you!

Sorry didn't see this post until now. Most likely yes a bad panel some shorted chip on film or a bad capacitor on the panel will most likely cause this problem. Could be a losing game if you devested any money into it
Did I leave the soldering iron on?
