U501 could be bad, look up it's pdf, I suspect the built in fet is shorted, pin 6 will be missing on the ic, check between pins 5 and 7 and see if it is shorted
That should be the standby circuit, do you have standby voltage?

Thanks R_J; i have no standby volts because the Main fuse is bad, U501 pin 5 to 7 is not short.Should i put the Schotty diode in place and the main fuse in and try?

I guess you could, or use a light bulb in series with the fuse or ac line for some protection. It could be that the standby is ok but as soon as the main power supply is turned on it shorts and blows the fuse.

D501 is in parallel with the transformer winding so it will measure short in circuit
Did you check Q101 and Q102?

Thanks J_R; you were right it blew the fuse again, and i checked Q101,Q102 and i think they are OK both measure same ,check the pic attach.

              Hello ivtec,
Measuring the diode in-circuit may be giving you a false reading, as the diode is sitting
across the primary of the switching Xformer.
Have you measured across the tranny with the diode out of circuit?
If you find it shorted, then its more than likely normal, as you'd be measuring the
              transformer winding's.
Check ZD503. Lift one leg out of circuit when measuring and ensure you do a punch-through test when you reverse bias it.
Measure across the main filter cap to see if there's any shorts.
If there is a short, you need to check the bridge rectifier.
Please let us know how you get on.
              Regards,
              Relayer

Check va101, make sure it's not shorted, check the bridge rectifier, make sure it has no shorts, Check R522, if it is ok (less than 1 ohm) then I suspect U501 is ok.

You mean the VS101 surge protector that is connected in parallel with the Bridge AC input pins?

                    Thanks R_J ; i checked VA101 in circuit and it's shorted but out of circuit it's not short, ,R522 it's 2.8 ohms the bridge rectifier it's ok,now the U501 that don't know.

How about VS101 (TVS diode), that is also connected between Line and Neutral after the fuse.

If the location of va101 is shorted then there is a short across the ac line somewhere between the main plug and the bridge, like budm said, check vs101 and if it's ok remove cx101 and check it

Thanksguys ; VS101 is short in circuit and out of circuit,i thought vs 101 was a fuse! sure looks like one ,but looking at it on the other side it has a symbol of a zener diode,i also took out CX101 in circuit it shows short but out of circuit it's not short,

ok, thats good you found it, You should be able to try the power supply, it will work without that part but it should be replaced.

                                          Hi,
I have an iMac with the power supply reference: ADP-200DFB.

This power supply is not working and when trying to debug the problem with a multimeter, I found what I thought to be a short circuited diode (the short-circuit is to ground).

With the continuity test it beeps both ways, so doesn't block current flow at all then reverse biased. But after removing the diode the beep continues and the diode seems healthy. It seems to exist a real short-circuit.

As I have another ADP-200DFB power supply (faulty one as well), I have checked the same...

                                          Hi friends of electronics

What you see in the video and pictures attached is the circuit for charging the batteries of a DC motor.

The problem is that this circuit cannot charge the batteries (3 1800mAH NiMH batteries) any more. When the circuit was OK, its green LEDs lit up one at a time to show that the batteries have charged more. But now that the circuit is flawed, LEDs light up as you see in the video and at the same time successive beeps are heard.

Please help me fix this circuit.

Testing for short circuit in diode mode
                                          by Askic
                                          Hello electronics experts,

On a few occasions I notice experienced technicians inspect for short circuit in diode mode on multimeter. This is OK and in some way equivalent to resistance mode, but more specifically I noticed that they put red probe on ground and black probe (connected to COM input on multimeter) is placed on the rail or pin.
I wonder why is that. Why not place black probe of multimeter on the ground and red probe on the rail which is tested for short?

Can you clarify this? When I test if something is short I use diode mode First and then double check...

Hello, I am looking for help to replace a damaged diode. The tristar was replaced and a diode was damaged in the process. I have a picture of the diode but dont have an exact donor. I mostly have macbooks for donors and only a few ipad and iphone boards. Diode part number: DSF01S30SCAP
Im not sure where to find the ipad board number. Anybody have an idea where else this diode is used on other boards? Thanks....

                                          TV backlight zener diode
                                          by unimatrix93
Hello everyone, I'm repairing an LG TV backlight and I noticed some strange behavior when I touching the backlight strip with a missing Zener diode.

So I replaced the leds on the strips and they seemingly working fine, but soon as I touch the strip which has a missing Zener diode the whole backlight turns off for a few seconds and then turns back on.

Is this caused by the missing diode? If so what kind of zener diode should I use to replace it?.
