• Just a small update. I have tested the PSU for about three days. It worked for about 5–6 hours each day, doing usual work. So far it works fine. We‘ll see, but so far it seems like everything is ok.

• Thank you guys for your replies.
Thing is very weird. I have disassembled everything and started chasing for short, could not find it, then again, I measured +3.3 V against the ground and I had 1K+, so short was gone. I assembled everything back and now it is working correctly. I will test it as much as I can.
I have carefully inspected everything looking for damaged insulation on wires, or some conductive parts that could be responsible for shorting, but none could be found (except for dust, but even that, not very much).

I do have pics with higher resolution, but right...

• PC Power Supply with shorted 3.3V

Hello,

Today I discovered that PSU Chieftec BDF-750C PSu has died. Not sure when that happened since I didn't use PC for a long time. PSU is not that old, about three years, but just out of warranty.
I had some previous success in repairing different electronic devices including PSU. Until now, the problem was usually bad electrolytic capacitors after many years of operation, but this time is different. When trying to turn on the PC, fans move a little bit and then nothing. There is astable 5V SB (actually 5.13 V DC Standby voltage), but that's it.
I tried to jump start...

• ULN2003 IC replacement

Hello, on a step motor driver board,
I have found damaged ULN2003 manufactured by ST as package SOP 16 (narrow). Now I have possibility to order get delivered very fast the following mark: ULN2003AFWG,
I'm not really sure if this is equivalent IC.
On the original I can (hardly) read the following data: G001284, and on this replacement IC there is also this: 024826

So, are these two ICs equivalent or not? First one is made by ST and second one by Toshiba. Based on the available manuals and schematics it should be 100% match.
What I need to pay attention...

• Re: Lenovo T440s fan issue

Honestly, I don't know what FAN_ID is. I can see in the schematics that this goes to EC.
However I can see on the internet that FANs for T440s indeed have only 4 wires even thought the connecter is 5pins. If your replacement fan always spins with full speed, this might be a sign that something other is not OK on the board.
Did you try using SpeedFan to see what it will show?

Hi czacha414,
Attached please find a schematics for connector in your Lenovo 440s laptop.
As you can see pins are the following: 1: Vcc = 5V, 2: FAN_ON, 3: GROUND,
4: FAN_FRQ, 5:FAN_ID

So you have to know on you replacement FAN, which pin number has which function and try to connect in the right way....

• Re: Distinguish between two SPI ROM chips on a MB

Then since I found on the drivers webpage something like this:
Thunderbolt Firmware Update
I can conclude this chip stores firmware for Thunderbolt.

So, I was wright to assume U2601 is the actual chip tp be flashed in order to revive the laptop (or at least to try it).

On the same web page, I have fond also this:
Intel Management Engine 12.0 Firmware
But what I can tell reading other threads here on the forum, this firmware is most likely also in U2601 and not in the separate chip,...

• Distinguish between two SPI ROM chips on a MB

Hello guys,

my question might seem trivial to experienced technicians, but since I didn't have any previous experiences with flashing the BIOS chips (except through Windows update utility), I need your explanation.

I have found a schematics for my problematic MB and there I can see two 8 legs chips. Extracts from the schematics is atatched as .png picture.
Now when I download .bin file here on the forum, how can be sure to which chip this file needs to be written to?

Can you please explain me what is the purpose for two chips (they are not redundant...

• Re: Problem with Lenovo X1 - screen glitch & freeze

Hello,
sorry for reviving this old thread, but I decided to try once again to fix this laptop.
I didn't do any reflow on the MB and just put this laptop on the shelf.
But, since I have some more free time now, maybe I can try to load new BIOS and try this.
All I can find on this forum is this thread:
https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?t=112902&highlight=Thinkpad+X1+extreme

Can I use this bin file to load to my bios (efi) chip?

Thank you...

• Re: Chhosing proper SSD drive for HP 15 - bs0xx board

Yes indeed, I manage to google it out eventually. It is M.2 SATA and the drive must be 80 mm SATA (not NvMe) that has both B and M key on the connector.

The screw is exactly 80 mm from the slot (goes over these flat cables).
Right below the slot is written JSSD and there is a screw to keep drive in place.
Please have a look at the attached picture....

• Choosing proper SSD drive for HP 15 - bs0xx board

Hi guys,
I have hp15 laptop, the model exactly as described here:
https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/Recommend-SSD-for-HP-Laptop-15-bs0xx/td-p/8048592
Picture of the SSD slot is attached.

The thing is that I have M.2 2280 SSd drive Kingston A2000, SA2000M8/250 GB.
It doesn't fit, so it seems that this slot on the motherboard is actually for SSD drives with B key, which are pretty rare nowadays, since Nvme are dominating.
When fitting drive to slot normally electronics and labels should be faced upwards to...

• Re: Problem with monitor DS-D5022QE-B

Thank you lotas for your advice, I have noticed that main processor becomes really hot if hdmi/vga board is connected to the power supply board. So for sure this board is dead. I have ordered a replacement board from ebay.
Thank you very much for the help.

• Re: Problem with monitor DS-D5022QE-B

Hi lotas,
based on your suggestions, I have obtained more information from the owner of the monitor.
This monitor was connected to CCTV system and problem happened during the storm.
This is what happened:
1. one PoE IP camera died.
2. the port on the DVR to which camera was connected is also dead, there was a TVS diode shorted to ground. This diode was removed, and this port is blocked. DVR works without problems and all other cameras are working OK.
3. DVR was connected to this monitor via HDMI cable,...

Hi lotas,

yes, input is 4.67V (not really 5V) and output is 3.27V just as shown in the attachment.

Do I need to have a small LED light next to power button even if display is disconnected?...

• Problem with monitor DS-D5022QE-B

Hello to all,

I have a problem with monitor that is delivered together with CCTV system.
The monitor appears to be completely dead, there is no LED power diode and it doesn't react to pressed power button.

I have disconnect display and check many components on the power supply part of the board. There is no anything obvious and monitor is about 3 years old. There are no bulged caps. When measuring voltages on the output connector to VGA board I can measure stable 14.5 V on 12V pins and stable 5.07V on 5V pins. So I assumed that this part of the board is OK....

• Identify components

Hello guys,

what are the components that have the following marks on it:
1. K9 SK2B
2. 5.0 SMDJ

I guess nr 2 is TV suppression diode, I cannot find the exact datasheet, what could be a replacement component?
Regarding nr 1 I have fund something with similar mark to be a Schottkey diode, but not sure what role it has in the circuit.

Thank you
