Re: LA40 M81BD combo PSU inverter

saw this on another site maybe worth a try

    The tuning sequence is
Turn on TV and put it in the DTV mode by pressing the source button on the Right Hand Side of the TV till you are in DTV
Mode ( if not tuned in it will say “no signal” ) then press the
menu button on the TV again and the “D” menu will appear , go down to channel , hit enter, the start will be highlighted on
Screen, hit enter again then the tuning process will start wait till it is completed full tuning 100% you will see a picture in the
Back ground of the menu just hit menu button on the TV twice
and the TV will exit the tuning mode. Now you can use the TV with the remote control.

this android app may let you get into the dtv menu

Thanks vinceroger69 and the tuning is as you say for tv but in this case dtv just does not show. None of the other inputs are selectable on this tv - unless they are cable connected to another unit they are just greyed out.

Well good news for a change a fair bit of research via this and other forum led me to a Samsung Service Bulletin of April 2010 covering the whole problem with what caps needing replacement, how service menu would be corrupted and what to change, as well as Eeprom replace if needed. Took the plunge on service menu and changes resulted in plug and play bringing up dtv tune in. Thanks for all contributions.

Nice work. I assume you no longer have the power up issue. Did you only change the filter caps(the electrolytic caps) ?

Yes the switch on is normal now and the caps replaced were the four originally done. I have one problem in that av. inputs give a washed out picture but my fault as in service menu I looked at calibrate and saw av failure come up so seems I had finger problem and pushed the wrong button. HDMI is ok though.

Check the picture mode setting for these inputs. When the EEPROM corruption occurs some of the picture modes can be corrupted, try changing that and see if the picture looks better.

Thanks tom66 there was a slight improvement but seems like I have to input via usb probably a white/black checkerboard pattern then do the service menu av calibrate. But may not worry about it as av virtually died out now.

Cool. So even when u followed the instructions in that doc, u still get image discoloration?

Yes but I believe that when resetting service menu I inadvertently entered recalibrate av resulting in failure due to no correct input for the calibration. The av inputs had been working ok beforehand. Then again I have little knowledge of what the various service menu settings are all about !!

Vizio E55-E1 bad backlights or bad inverter?

I just got this tv today and it appeared to have no backlight on. After taking off the rear cover and checking again in the dark I can see that MAYBE one quadrant is lit.. But still it's quite dim. I was going to check the LEDs with my tester, and I found LED 1 and LED 2 + pins on the wire from the inverter, but I couldn't identify a ground. Nonetheless I tried using a mounting screw on the inverter board and also the chassis as ground but regardless my tester reads 300 which is what it reads when there is no voltage draw.

I don't know how exactly to test the inverter itself. Is it...

I have a tripp-lite aspint 3636vr inverter charger which blow some of mosfet transistors. I replaced them repaired also the driver circuit and tested but the mosfets burn again.

It work very well as inverter and also as charger if I let the rear switch in auto mode (inverter) and charger only(charging) but in auto when I connect the feed line 220V AC first time it pass ok to line and start charging the batteries but when I remove the feed line it pass to inverter mode and if I do it again the second time when passing from charging to inverter the Main transformer start making a...

                      Hofmann geodyna 6300 Wheel balancer

                      Hi there,

First, I'm not sure it's the right section to post for this type of device, but could not think of something better.

Ok, so my son (a mechanic) bought a faulty Hofmann Geodyna 6300 wheel balancer (which appears to be mostly a re-branded Snap-on wheel balancer).

I'm looking for any resources (doc, manuals, schematics) that would be available for this device or anyone that would have any knowledge on this particular device (or its Snap-On equivalent).

I'm trying to diagnose the fault(s ?), but I can't find any schematic (appart from the...

                      by valvashon
For some reason I'm just not going to let this 19" TV defeat me. I guess because I have a schematic to work from I feel like I'm oh so close.

History- while adding a turn-on circuit I let a small screw roll under the power board. Worked through all of that circuitry, probably replacing a MOSFET and PWM controller that were not bad but I was following the service manual. Finally figured out that the power supply is in working order when the inverter section (for the backlights) is disconnected. When the +12 supply to the inverter is disconnected the +12 and +5 will come up...

A modified sine wave inverter + a grid tie inverter?
                      by eccerr0r
If I had a solar fed grid tie inverter (GTI), a modified sine wave inverter, and a power outage occurred, what would happen if you disconnected mains, backfed the modified sinewave inverter (MSI) into house power, and hooked up the GTI to the output of the MSI, would it work?

Next thing is trying to charge the batteries using solar power, but that's another issue ...
