  • Re: Altius AL5517UHDS intermittent loss of picture - self fixes

Blinking getting more frequent but a slap fixes it straightaway so surely a dry joint.

  • Re: Altius AL5517UHDS intermittent loss of picture - self fixes

As mentioned in post the backlights stay on. I'm inclined to think dry joint but as all else works it would have to be in picture circuit only. Today set turned on blinking etc again after 10 mins picture then off, if left as is the picture will usually suddenly come on again within 30 mins and then stay on. Today i gave set a slap ana a stable picture immediately came on and stayed on for 3 hours then blinked again and went off coming back on after about 10 mins and normal again. Perhaps a component heating/cooling...

  • Altius AL5517UHDS intermittent loss of picture - self fixes

Hi from Oz, some years since last posted. This set is 3 years old and had almost no use in that time. Brought it out of hibernation a month ago. Problem came up shortly after. Set is always turned off at pp when not being used. Turn it on and logo comes up then picture but after a few to around 15 minutes the picture start blinking irregularly for a time then go completely off, backlights remain on. Leave it and after 10 - 20 minutes picture will come back on and sometimes do the same thing again but then will stabilise and run normally for hours until switched off.
    I have pulled back off...

  • Re: Can You Still Make Decent Money Repairing Flatscreen TVs?

My wife and I are retired and I got a good hobby and made grocery money for a few years. Now however I don't bother with plasma sets as they (and me) getting too old. Also, don't bother with anything under 40" unless a simple fix - new 32" here in Oz $180/190 for cheapies. Other sets are relatively cheap - recently saw new 65" for $699. As to fixing them parts and info hard to come by. Nowadays I tinker only and now and then make an easy $100. End of this month is an annual cleanup day for our area and...

  • Re: Bauhn ir remote control receiver

Thanks people. As luck would have it when going thru some boards I have I found another ir receiver, not of same board shape but with same connector - hooked that in and it worked so tried swapping ir bulbs over but no luck so possible component problem on ir board or I did other bulb in !!

Sorry budm do not have a scope. Any other way to check ? Every query seems to bring up remote sender info rather than receiver detail and testing.

  • Bauhn ir remote control receiver

On this set a 58" model the ir receiver is mounted on underside of rhs of the set. The forward facing area is very small. I didn't have a remote control for this but have a Aultius set with similar fitting and as both are sold via Aldi decided to try the one for it and it worked. The Bauhn had the back panel off for testing other things, all went well so I reassembled the set. The red standby lit but I found trouble with the remote. It worked once in several tries to turn set on then nothing. Know nothing much about these, standby lights OK, how do I tell if ir is OK or not ?...

  • Re: T Con board question

Thanks budm the reason for my question is that on close examination all components appear to be the same so where does the different processing occur?? My idea is to swap over an ic if it the culprit e.g gamma processor. But is that feasible. Tcon circuits not available. Both these relate to Samsung panels.

  • T Con board question

I have a generic Chinese set that displayed a slightly discoloured picture on one half of screen. This is a t.con problem and I searched for awhile before finding one with same main number being 13Y_S120PAVLMB3C2LV0.0 but the sticker numbers are different and the one I did get shows two pictures, both OK, but one above the other.
My question is as all components are the same with same voltages etc it must be one of the three ics that makes the difference but which one? The main ic has same number as far as I can decipher but other two I can't discern. Or am I wrong and its something else...

  • Re: RCA LED65G55R120Q No Backlight

Voltage checks are a must as budm has indicated. A year ago I had set from friend of friend with similar problem except logo displayed. Power board and LEDs checked out OK by forcing them on. That left me with likely eeprom corrupted on main board. That set 65" Polaroid similar to RCA was recently given to me and I will first be trying freeze spray on the eeprom.

  • Re: TVs, TVs, TVs, a Tsunami of TVs inc this Bauhn

After a few attempts to get a tcon from China outlets (all no good) I found one by same maker which came out of a Toshiba set and on eBay from US seller. This board had different numbers but close exam of pic to the one I had showed them to be exactly the same in components so I took the risk and yes it works!!. Persistence paid off....

Just to update that set is going OK to date, but should problem recur, would do a fix as mmartell suggested.

  • Re: 55” Micromax Led TV Half screen red

The half screen affected must either be from output (tcon) or input to screen on that side (long thin board bonded to screen). If that board is at bottom of screen bad bonding connection could also be the cause. Check small caps on that board. A tcon replace may be worthwhile??

Ribbon to tcon top left seated correctly ? Connections all carefully cleaned ?

  • Re: Samsung UA55ES8000 vertical lines + clicking

Actually mmartell the connector mounted on power board is quite firm and only the pin connection to lead wire is problem. This lead wire is a double one and as I noted above was not supported in any way and did look as if it could put strain on connectors when set upright and particularly when being moved - the 2013 service bulletin budm found emphasises support for that lead cable as necessary. In my case as having cleaned connector, supported cable, and firmed up connection the set has performed normally since. Also, keeping the...

Have now checked the pins and on power board side the ones idented in the bulletin are black (had to use a mirror to check them in situ) and some discolouration on the cable connection. This cable gets quite warm when set operating. I note the wire connection to power board are a bit thicker for those pins but still a design problem. A successful conclusion thanks to budm but all input appreciated.

  • Re: Samsung UA55ES8000 vertical lines + clicking

Thanks budm and exactly right I would say. For the record I did my searching using the model and board numbers. I now realise UA, UN, and UE just mean Asia, North America, and Europe. Should have searched for series8. Set going well with normal operation for 2 hours now. The main IC gets very hot so have added a form of heatsink. For info to those in winter climes going to be 45°C in our western area for rest of this week.

  • Re: Samsung UA55ES8000 vertical lines + clicking

This morning turned on power and the following sequence repeated 5/6 times before just clicking - set starts, logo displayed, pic for about 3 seconds, vertical stripes (all varied colouring/patterns) for about 2/3 minutes, set turns off.
Tried disconnect of tcon , no pic of course also no sound but could tell from clicking much same sequence happening. Turned set around to get at boards and noticed lead from power to main not supported and did look as it was putting some strain on connector on main so taped it up then started...

  • Re: Samsung UA55ES8000 vertical lines + clicking

Sorry Davi.p in this case used methylated spirit on a small cotton bud stick to get inside connectors. Yes initial thought was tcon but changed to main because logo displays OK at every start and initial going well happened immediately after disconnecting main from power board plus when displaying OK and remote key pressed to change channel immediate problem again. Only three boards really on set with main and power accessible via removable panel in rear and tcon needs outer frame off then metal cover to get at it properly. Will try...
