    Vizio M470VSE LED half image

Don't remember where I got this TV but here is what I'm dealing with.

TV powers on and stays on. Responsive to both remote and buttons. It has audio but video is only displayed on half of the screen (see photo). Power board output measures normal.

I initially thought it was the TCON, replaced it but no luck. Exactly the same thinng...LED driver illuminates entire screen, video only on half.

What are the chances the main board is to blame? What about the ribbon or LVDS cables? I haven't done much with LEDs to know what to suspect and try first. I recall fixing an LG which had bad tab bonds by using weather stripping. Could the half screen video be a tab bond issue?

    Look forward to thoughts.

I don't think a mainboard will cause just half screen to fail. Can you switch your ribbon cables and see if problem switches to other side.
I assume no responsibility for any stupid suggestions I might post.

Switch the ribbon cables running from tcon to the panel. If the other half of screen starts working it is the ribbon cable. Go into menu to see more of the screen lit with an image.

Switched the ribbons from left and right last night only to get the same issue. Doesn't look like the ribbon. I think I'll take the surround off of the panel this weekend and see if I get anywhere by putting pressure on the TABs.

half a image could also be a shorted smd capacitor on that side of the lcd panel pcb there been a few threads lately.

Glad to hear everyone in agreement on the SMD idea. Assuming I test all of them on the bad half and identify it/them, should be able to just replace it correct?

you may notice it getting hot but yes test all on that side there very small though this may not be the fault but at least you can rule them out.
