    LG 47LV5500 Troubleshooting

    I was just given a non-functional LG 47LV5500.

The power button light will respond to being turned on (from the remote or touch), and light up white, but nothing else happens, it does not appear as the backlight even comes on.

I have tried a meter on a fuse on the TCON (I know very little, but have read some posts here) and I get zero. Image attached of what I tested and how the meter was set... again, I am a noob with this kind of stuff, but can follow instructions

Does this mean I'm not getting power beyond the initial board, and should get a TCON (that what this board is called?) or am I doing something wrong.

    Thanks!
    Ryan

No, you don't measure voltage on the fuse like that. I see you need a crash course in how electronics work.
But before we get to that, I do have to ask for some high resolution, straight shot pictures of your power supply, main board and tcon. Maybe an extra pic of the PSU area where the ribbon cable goes to the main board. So we can see the pin out names.

You have a Main Bd problem. Since the Power light comes on but no other response, you should be getting 5V-Stby but no PS-ON signal to the Pwr Bd.

could we have another picture of the top right of the power supply, showing the 2 connectors and the pin outs? I can't read it.

On connector P201: check the DC voltages on the PWR on pin and the DRV on pin, while the tv is on.

"and DRV gets me 11.91" Are you sure you are on the right pin? The DRVON has to be measured from the bottom side of the board or at the back side of the female connector. The exposed pins you see on the top side of the board are for the LEFT column pins (odd number) of the pinout chart.
BTW, what DCV do you have on the ERROR pin?

Ok, doing it from the back (hey look at that, they're labeled there... )

                        PRV ON - 24.46
                        DRV ON - 0.033
                        Error - .000

That measurement isn't right either. Those pins have usually something in between 2v and 5v. There are some weird TV that do things a bis different, but none have 12v or 24v on the PSON/BLOn pins.
How about you turn on the tv and measure each pin and use the pin out name.

What did you use for ref. GND for the meter? Those readings are wrong.

Sorry, haven't been back to this for a couple of days.

I used the chassis of the TV for ground.

Image of where and how I was testing as well as a reading for each pin (left and right) provided in the attached chart image as well.

Note, as far as the TV being "ON", I click the on button on the remote and the lower right light goes steady white. I presume that's on, but given no sound or picture, I don't know.

So the PWR ON is NOT 24.46V after all, it is 3.37VDC.
DRV ON = BL-ON which you are not getting from the main board to turn on the backlights circuits.

I am having the same exact problem with my TV, I even got 3V when I measured the power on which should be 24V. How do I correct this? My friend recommended replacing capacitors. Thoughts?

The PWR_ON is the control signal and will never be 24V there, please report what Voltages you are getting on ALL the pin as shown in post #15 chart.

There's a legend/map near top of board for connector P201, there are TWO rows of pins for testing, in this case 24 pins. Here's a video of powerboard testing, HEED ALL HIGH VOLTAGE CAN BE DEADLY WARNINGS. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4v8DcqCNG4A

when troubleshooting tcon vs panel issues, there are many guides and pictures showing issues of both. There is one question i have in the troubleshooting method that ive overlooked the answer to, or there isnt a direct enough answer for me to grasp so here it goes...

when disconnecting the ribbon cables from the bottom of the tcon that lead to the panels (buffer?) boards, one at a time to see if any artifacts or image changes occur, i understand it to be that the act of an actual change itself is enough to point to the tcon board. except for a half black or white image caused by the...

Just bought this for 10 bucks yesterday hoping to fix it. The guy said water dropped inside from a dehumidifier hose and it started showing black and white vertical bars then went blank. When I got it home and turned it on it came on fine and displayed correctly but I was noticing faint vertical bars in the image. After a little bit I turned it off and back on and it was a black screen again. I opened it up to check for water damage and corrosion but didn't find anything of the sort. I cleaned the ribbons anyway and reconnected them but still got a blank screen. If I disconnect the right side...

Driving a Sharp TCON/panel with a universal main board
                                        by advant
This thread is about trying to get an Universal Main Board to work with a Sharp TCON and panel.

I have a Sharp LC-46D85UN TV that has had a main board issue. Since this model is from 2009, I am not able to find an exact replacement of the main board. Instead, I decided to see if I can future proof this tv by getting a Universal Main Board (T53U21.2) from China to work with the Sharp TCON (CPWBX4291TPZA) and panel. The universal main board supports a 8 bit dual channel LVDS interface whereas the TCON requires a 10 bit dual channel LVDS input. I have modded the LVDS connector to match...

LG OLED77G1PUA - No Video / Audio after a TCON Board change and Software Update
                                        by Hakuu
                                        Hi There,

This TV was auto switching off after few seconds with some vertical lines on the screen, so got a new TCON board and replaced it.

After replacing the TCON board it was working fine and i set it up with everything, used for few hours, then had the bright idea to update the software on it. During the update process, TV switched off and now no audio or video. No relay switch sound.

Is it possible to test small ceramic disc capacitor with analogue meter?
                                        by chth96
I read EBOOK of Testing Electronic Component and found that

"In order to test the small blue resin coated ceramic disk capacitor which has 104 50v specification,it is possible to test this small ceramic capacitor by making use of analogue meter.
Set to times 10Kohm that has 12v output from the probe to check disorder of ceramic capacitor.
It is not uncommon that testing result of digital capacitance meter is okay,But It show shorted reading when you check it with analogue meter."

Is it really possible to test small ceramic disc capacitor with analogue...
