    Re: Vizio VO47L caps

BTW, make sure to clean off the black stuff that leaked out form the caps on the inverter board, it is conductive and corrosive.

Okey dokey, I'll hit it with a q-tip and some alcohol.

Will do when I get home. I'll pause on something bright so you can see it well.

              Re: Vizio VO47L caps

              Hi,

I've seen this defect before on two different Vizio's that I had repaired.
I think it is a unfixable panel defect but I will await other opinions. I could not get the problem to go away by flexing the panel so I don't think it is a tab bond issue.
I would also like to know what it is?

              Mike

Could it be pressure points on the diffusers?
Willing to help but I'm no expert.

BUDM, is this the proper low esr cap to replace those remaining caps?

Is that low esr? I don't see mention of it in the specs.

I have seen the same screen defect on a 47" Philips lcd. I told my brother to watch everything in letterbox format.

Well it worked for a while thanks to your help but I don't use it much at all and after a month of non-use I tried to turn it on and got no display. The Vizio emblem turns white, I hear the PS click but no video. Any hints where I could test or anything else I could have missed or done wrong?

Yes. It has been a while so it's hard to remember. It has run well and didn't fail while on, it just didn't come on one day.

Well, open up and inspect the boards again, a bunch of caps should have been replaced as suggested and with LOW ESR type..

You can heat up the power supply with a hair dryer for a few minutes if the tv then powers on ok like budm suggests replace the capacitors with low esr type like Panasonic fm/fr/fc range

I'm at my GF's for the night but I'll look at it in the morning with a camera and a heat gun and see what I get.

Completely non-scientific observation: When I power it on, it clicks once. As I remember, don't these click once, and again a few seconds later when the backlight comes on?
