    Re: Toshiba 42rv530u wont power on

    Post #106:
    BTW: Post 106 did ask you to check of there is 160V or not, what other instruction do you need to check the +160V? What do you think the meter should be set to? Read the meter manual?

    "Based on the instructions on post 106 I checked the fuse with the board unplugged. Because no instructions were given as to what setting to check it on I went with continuity = the arrow pointing to the right with the plus symbol. I also checked with my meter set to 20V = 0.0V 200V = 00.0. I should have included these #'s but that's why I stated what settings I was using. I realize now that I was on the wrong setting. I assumed that people with more experience than me would have seen such a simple error and corrected me. I was wrong and naive to assume anything that I have here." So it's our fault for not correcting you.[/QUOTE]

    Yes, I have been reading it since you instructed me to on post #68 I have been trying to figure out who's instructions I am getting mixed up with who's.

    These are my results, first one is plugged in, the second is after pressing the on button. All on 20VDC.

    C821 black to F820 fuse red = meter at 20V = rises to 19V then drops to 0. Meter on 200V = rises to 23.5 V then drops to 0.

    I did these too per nomoresonys instructions first is plugged in, second is after pressing on.

    POW_DB = 0V, 0V
    POWER_TV = 0V, 0V
    POW_PRO = 1.7V then trickles down to 0V, 1.7V then trickles down to 0V.
    POW_SIG = 0V, 0V
    AC_DET = 0V, 0V
    POW_LCD = 0V, 0V
    12V_LCD = 0V, 0V
    12V = 0V, 0V
    5V1 = 1.13V then trickles down to 0V, 1.11Vhen trickles down to 0V
    18V_AUDIO = 0V, 0V
    24V = 0V, 0V

    Everytime someone tells me to do something I put a lot of effort into following the instructions to the letter. I know how frustrating this is for me, and I am sure this is frustrating for you. I feel like I am so close this time though.

    I've watched people test a bunch of components, and I have tested many myself also. I think I've straightened myself out finally, but I feel like an imbecile regardless. Please Lord let me get this right!

      Here are 2 points to measure with the tv pluged in. don't wory about the power button.
      Put your meter to read AC volts, (NOT DC VOLTS) and on the 200 volt ac range.
      Step1
      Measure the ac voltage between JP001 (jumper wire) and F801 fuse. you should measure around 120 volts AC

      Step2
      measure the AC volts between JP011 (jumper wire) and GJ12 (jumper wire)
      You should also measure 120 volts AC
      IF you measure 120 volts in Step1 but NOT in step2
      You know what is bad?

        Is JP011 supposed to be JP001? In your picture it looks that way sorry if I am mistaken. JP001 to F801 = 121 V. JP001 to GJ12 = 20V.

        Does that mean that there is something wrong at GJ12?

          Re: Toshiba 42rv530u wont power on

          I gave you a picture!!! the first place to measure is JP001 and the F801 fuse
          NEXT measure between JP011 and GJ12
          So you measure JP001 to F801 = 121 volts. That is GOOD
          when you measure between JP001 OR JP011 (they are on the same line) and GJ12 you get 20v (way too low) and what is that square white thing near GJ12... could it be... R850???

          In this picture I marked the path the AC takes from the cord to the bridge rectifier.
          Note where R850 is in that path and note where the relay contacts are also.

            Yes the pictures are great! I see all of them. And yes, so bad R850? Replace?

              YES that is what I said back in post #33. which is 5 posts after you hijacked the thread. You need to replace the resistor AND the relay. If you do not replace the relay, the resistor will go open circuit again.

                Ok, I will try to order them by googling the numbers on the fronts. So many people were commenting I got whisked away.

                I was thinking this was the problem for a while now. I believe I even typed it in one of my posts. Which relay are you referring to? SR81? It has little tabs holding it in under the solder, what do I do for that?

                  Re: Toshiba 42rv530u wont power on

                  There are 4 connections to unsolder the SR81 relay. two for the contacts and two for the coil. There are no tabs holding it in, it is soldered in.
                  What are the numbers on the relay?
                  It should be a 12 volt relay, here are digikey pt# others have used.
                  SR81, 255-3350-ND Relay 12v 5amp
                  R850, TWW5J2R0E-ND 2ohm 5w resistor

                  The original resistor is 1.8Ω 5watt but is hard to find (unless ordered from ebay/China) so a 2Ω 5 watt is used which is perfectly fine.

                    How did I get led astray? This is what I was trying to do a week ago. Parts are ordered. Hopefully shipping will not take very long.

                    I will never be able to repay your patience and kindness. I am not worthy.

                        I'm trying to understand why there's no voltage readings on the connector.

                          The coil relay or the resistor? The reading is 1 which indicates an open circuit on my multimeters apparently. On both components no matter what ohms setting I put my meters on.

                          I did not come across an indication for "Open" in the manuals that I found online, or the ones that I was so kindly supplied with.

                          I believe I made the blunder of not realising this sooner because in all the videos I was watching people were using "Fluke" brand multimeters or similar multimeters that use OL instead of just the #1 on the screen. I thought that the meter had to say "OL" specifically for the component to be open because I was so intent on following everyone's instructions to the letter.

                          I was sadly mistaken, this mistake has caused quite a bit of grief on all our parts. For that I am sorry. I have located a corner with a stool and a dunce cap for me to wear.

                          In the mean time, parts are on their way, and I eagerly await their installation.

                          Everyone's help is much appreciated.

                            If nomoresonys means the connector going to the main board, its because the power supply is for all intents and purposes DEAD. the fact that the R850 (see pic. post #124) is open circuit. its the same as if the main fuse was open, or for that matter it was'nt even pluged in.

                                I would like to take a moment to convey my gratitude towards you. The TV fired up no problems. Thank you so much for your patience, and kindness. I will wear the dunce cap a little longer, but after today I feel like Dusty Rhodes beating Ric Flair in a steel cage for the title!

                                I'm a little less green now, and I'm so glad that I stuck this out and saw it through. Apologies, hi fives, and salutations to all parties involved.

                                I learned way more than I thought I ever would, and can't thank everyone enough. 1=0L, I will never forget that! None of my success today would have been possible without your help R J! You are the best!

                                        I was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.

                                        Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.

                                        I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.

                                        The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.

                                        With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

                                        Hi all!

                                        I'm trying to troubleshoot a Microsoft Surface Pro (5th gen) model 1796 that won't power on. Motherboard model is M1007506-015. My priority is retrieving data, but the SSD is integrated so it looks like if I can't repair it it'll need to go to a data recovery company. I've done a little basic board repair before, but nothing this advanced until now. So please forgive my ignorance in advance. 😅

                                        I found the boardview for this laptop in the forums here, and am able to open it on my PC with FlexBV.

                                        Hi all,

                                        TL;DR - this laptop is driving me nuts with the oddball power-related behaviors. Appreciate any insight you can provide!

                                        I'm experiencing a power issue on an Asus Probook P5440UF-XB74. Although I've worked with electronics and computers for decades, this is my first attempt at getting into motherboard-level component troubleshooting. Any help the community can provide is greatly appreciated!

                                        A few weeks ago I was using the laptop (on battery power) for a Zoom meeting. The battery was running very low (long meeting) but I wasn't worried about...

                                        Carver CM-1090 - Power relay clicking on & off, then fuse blown after 20-30 seconds of power cycling.

                                        I gotten a Carver CM-1090 amplifier from a friend who has kept it in storage for decades. Opened it up, thick layer of dust cumulated everywhere. Vacuumed it semi-cleaned, and blown off as much as possible the remaining dust. This is a 220V version.

                                        On initial powered up with nothing connected - it works with all the lights and button indicator lit up as pressed, etc. I then powered off, connected a CD player into the CD RCA input and powered it on. It seemed to work for a short while and when I turned the volume up and down to see the the VUs works, the power started to clicked off...

                                        Desoldering gun station modified to use a 18 volt @ 20 amp switching power supply
                                        by sam_sam_sam
                                        I have wanting to do this project for quite sometime now and I finally found a switching power supply that will work on this desoldering gun station ZD-915 that the original switching power supply took a shit and just was not worth trying to fix it because this switching power is not quite big enough to handle the heater element and the vacuum pump

                                        One note when I tested the switching power supply and the voltage control board I noticed that this desoldering gun heat up much faster than the original switching power supply which I was really surprised by to the point that I might buy...
