Friends Sharp LC-32SH2OU Fades to White

I was at a friends house yesterday and he had this 32" Flat screen sitting on the floor in his spare bedroom. I asked him what was wrong with it and he said when he first turns it on the picture is beautiful but then it fades to white after about a minute of it being on. I'm assuming it might be a capacitor going bad or maybe just a loose video cable. Something is happening when it warms up.

What could it possibly be? Am I correct with a capacitor going bad?

Most likely it's going to be the t-con board. That would certainly be my first guess. Post some pictures of the TV with the back off so we can see what all the boards look like.

I will go pick it up tomorrow after work. He's agreed to let me have it.

          OK, Here's what I got.

          Whole back:

          Left Side Board:

          Right Side Board:

Found one resistor that didn't Ohm out:

          P1020077-No Ohms

Found another Resistor that had no Ohms...:

          P1020077-No Ohms 2

So, I'm assuming that is what's wrong with this. I'm not getting any Ohms through these resistors.

That is 100K (Brown Black Yellow) resistor, what scale on your meter you set it to?

I'm using a Fluke 114. I had it set to audible. When I set it to regular Ohms I get 82.4 on the first one and 99.9 on the second one.

I guess I'll need to put the TV on the floor to get to the T-Con. That metal is connected to the base stand.

An update on the symptom also since I have it in my possession. I plugged the DVD player into it and started watching a DVD. After about 3 minutes the fading was actually lines disappearing until there were only a few lines of picture left. So I'm assuming it's the video board.

When you check the resistance of the resistor, always put it on the Ohm mode.
Can you show us the screen shot so we can see what the pictures look like on the screen?

I will do that when I get home from work. But basically it looks like the screen disappears line by line. First really fast then it slows down a little bit until they are all gone. The lines are horizontal (left to right).

OK, well... I put it back together and have been watching Mad Max Fury Road for about 30 minutes. Must have had a bad connection on the T-Con board...

Friend said I can keep the TV because he replaced it since he thought it was messed up. Happy Me... Merry Christmas to me!

Hmmm. I looked at it again and the screen was totally black while the movie was playing. About an hour and a half into it. Totally missed how it went out. Probably the same way it did last night. I guess I'll let it cool down and try again tomorrow after work.

Tried turning the TV on this morning and all I get is a blank screen. The power light comes on when I turn the TV on, the screen lights up but stays black. There is no flashing code or anything to indicate what the problem might be. The power light just stays on green steady. When the TV is powered off the power LED turns orange as it has since I've been troubleshooting it. I don't even see the "PLEASE WAIT" message anymore like I saw the first couple times I turned it on.

A quick glance over the boards this morning didn't reveal any popped caps or anything else out of the ordinary. I guess my next question would be should I buy a new T-Con board or could it be the video board?

I doubt it's the power supply. When I plug the TV in the power light is orange and when I turn it on the light turns green. I'm guessing that the power is correct. I'm just not getting a picture.

The screen lights up but it's black. Nothing else goes on with the screen. I'm thinking the lamps are OK too in this regard.

                              What's my next step?

You will need to find out if the T-CON is getting 5 or 12Vdc to run or not.

I put the new (used) Scaler board in yesterday and everything seems to be OK. I haven't really tested the TV yet with a movie. Maybe I'll get around to that today or tomorrow. Seeing the "PLEASE WAIT" message was a huge relief!

                                          Another TV topic!!
I got this sharp TV that when I first plugged it in it showed the sharp logo and then went to the input screen. This was about 30 seconds and then it showed white screen. Now I can't see anything but white screen. This has a separate TCON and Main.

The TCON is getting 12V and several parts are as well but the VGH line is only .5Volts which I thought is totally incorrect.

Am I on the correct assumption that the TCON is bad somehow if I'm only getting that voltage or is there something else I should check?...

                                          Hey guys,

I have a SHARP LC-60LE640X TV that has suddenly developed an intermittent fault of flashing white noise patches (appears like an Analog tuner off signal) and then totally dropping out.
This model I believe is also known as LC-60LE600U or LC-60LE640U in other regions.

FYI, a long time ago I was a component level repair tech for all consumer electronics and IT equipment.
I'm a bit rusty but still have ability to dig right down.

I measured all power supply lines and checked them for AC ripple voltage. Noting any lines that exceeded about...

Wondering if anyone has addressed an issue with the SHARP 70” LC-70UD27U having thin black and white lines running from left to right horizontally on the screen. I snagged this TV set from a neighbor since I have been successful in repairing numerous other TVs. I assume this probably happens to other TV sets and may have been addressed in another thread. If so please point me in the right direction.

What I have tried so far.
I have tested all HDMI inputs with the same results.
I have checked for firmware updates.
I have reset to factory settings.
                                          I have removed...

Sharp LC-40LE830E white blinking after wallplug is off
                                          by bajdik
Hello, on Sharp LC-40LE830E is everything OK. Working great. If I put the 230 V off and on again, it just blinking white standby LED. I can power on only via VOL- and CH+ and POWER button on TV. After that, I can power off and power on again without problem (by buttons or remote control) until the 230 V is connected. If i put the plug off and on again, just white standby LED blinking. TV needs three button starting again.. On the first look, the backlight looks great, no darker or lighter spots. Any idea what is wrong?
