Olevia lcd tv continuously blowing a cap on power supply

    Hello, first thread
    I need some help
I have an Olevia 37in lcd that its constantly blowing the same capacitor over on the power supply. The first time I replace it with one from a used board with the same voltage but higher capacitance and it blew a few hours later. Then I installed a new one bought at radio shack with the same voltage and capacitance from the original and it went out again after a few hours of use.
When the caps blows the image is gone but I hear sound, after I turn off the tv and try to turn it on again the logo comes in for a split second and then the tv turns off
What could be the problem here?
    Any help will be appreciated

It could be that there are bad caps on the other board that is fed by that power supply section, also the cap must be LOW ESR type not general purpose type.
You also need to upload good clear pictures of all the board and the whole backside of the TV.
Which power supply section that you replaced the caps?

Let me guess... the cap that blows up get's really hot after a few minutes of use? As budm said, there is probably a different board that has bad caps, that is fed by that power supply section.

I will post some pics later today and will check the other boards. I was thinking also like budm said maybe it was the cheap generic cap that I bought but will see. I'll post later when I get home

Ive had it where a partially shorted diode blew the caps on a samsung home media centre quite hard to diagnose. Check and see what voltage is going through the cap and see that there isnt voltage on the negative side of the cap.

yes, a bad diode hitting the cap wih AC or a voltage that is too high.

If it has shorted diode, it won;t be running for hours before the caps blew up.

but a leaking one could cause that.

knowing the voltage rating of the cap may help.

Yeah, but that will have ac ripple and Voltage will not be stable for the power supply to run and unable to regulated and able to run for hours.

Hey guys update is here, all of your suggestions opened my mind specially budm's, and I think I might have found the problem. Here are two pictures, the first with all the boards uncovered and the second one showing two caps blown on a small board to the left of the power supply that is fed by the section of the power supply that I was having problems with. You guys are awesome.
As soon as I replace these caps I'll update to see if that fixed the problem
                      Thanks a lot

Good, you found the cause of the problem, make sure to use Low ESR with 105c temp rating for those two caps on the inverter board.
This why it is important to show the pictures.

                                          by Tynan Dill
I was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.

Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.

I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.

The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.

With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

                                          Assuming...

Desoldering gun station modified to use a 18 volt @ 20 amp switching power supply
                                          by sam_sam_sam
I have wanting to do this project for quite sometime now and I finally found a switching power supply that will work on this desoldering gun station ZD-915 that the original switching power supply took a shit and just was not worth trying to fix it because this switching power is not quite big enough to handle the heater element and the vacuum pump

One note when I tested the switching power supply and the voltage control board I noticed that this desoldering gun heat up much faster than the original switching power supply which I was really surprised by to the point that I might buy...

Modification to a ZD-987 desoldering/soldering station using a external switching power supply
                                          by sam_sam_sam
I have been working on this concept for quite some time now with limited success but recently I found a switching power supply that is setup for the voltage that this soldering station needs to operate at however it also needs part of the secondary circuit from the original switching power because you need several voltage rails

I once tried to get a ZD-915 desoldering station to work on a 18 volt battery power supply but unfortunately things did not go well but I did find a work around but I might try this idea again but going at a little differently more about this another time...

Definitive technology SC 2000 subwoofer amp's power supply clicking and popping
                                          by JimBanville
The sub developed a constant popping every couple seconds from woofer and power LED flickering with nothing but wall AC connected. Connecting an audio cable didn't change anything. It doesn't play but a second or two of audio in between the pops.
Opened it up and discovered the power supply is making a faint clicking or ticking sound.
I measured the amp's output to the woofer and it pulses up to 50mv DC to be driver. The pulses coincide with the power supply ticking/clicking.
I measured the power supply output going to the amp board and it too has this pulsing. Voltage cycles...

                                          Hello Everybody,

Trying to repair a power supply from a Russound CA4 Multizone Controller (picture attached)

Russound no longer supports it but were kind enough to provide a schematic of the power supply (pdf attached).

The outputs marked 12v and 20v are all measuring only 1v.

The board is clicking, which I think means it is in something called hiccup mode when the flyback transformers switches because of an internal problem or something else on the board Overloading it.

The capacitors physically look clean (no bludgesor leaks) and...
