    Re: Panasonic TX-P42S30B - 6 blinks

Thanks Tom, my word it does take some doing but I have finally got a full clean picture.

Very many thanks to you all for your help and support and hardware.

There is no way I'd have even taken the back off (a first for me) without you guys.

Special thanks to TW2005 for your faithful support and for encouraging me in what, with hindsight, was the best course.

Flocko, thanks for your excellent soldering.

Thanks also to Alastair E and others for chipping in.

Nice! Enjoy your TV They are excellent TVs, so we should try and preserve them for as long as possible now you can only buy LED-backlit crap

P.S. Since you know the main board was not at fault, consider selling that on eBay or to a member on here who may need it to fix another set.

Sorry I missed your post this morning (shopping day ) but good to see Tom helped you though it. I thought you had it sorted yesterday anyway all good now, as Tom says put your main on eBay got to be worth a shot, send your faulty SN back to me for your refund and I hope you enjoy your viewing once again Flocko

              Re: Panasonic TX-P42S30B - 6 blinks

Mikes faulty SN board arrived yesterday, so I tested the board and found Q401/2/21/441 and 422 shorted, D401and 421 test shorted, after lifting legs on Q401/2/21/441and 422, diodes D401/421now tested fine, when I tested Q531and IC502 I found them to be reading low ohms not the high Meg ohms they should read. After replacing all the above with the exception of the two diodes the board is up and running, and will be available to some lucky punter on eBay, A tip that may be of help ,when fitting this type of board trying to get the ribbons to line up can be a pain, I have found that if you leave the fixing screws loose with that extra movement on the board they do go in and line up better, but don't forget to tighten the screws before you power up the set. So bad Q531, IC502 is more the norm on these?

                  Re: Panasonic TX-P42S30B - 6 blinks

That's what I had on mine. If you get them wrong either the SN blows up or you get a brief panel glow then 6 blinks.

Hi TW I would not say these need to be replaced every time (Q531/IC502)as I have had one or two boards that they have been fine, I also find some have blow the diodes some don't, the same with the resistors for Q401/02/21and Q422.But I would point out to anyone wanting to try a repair, to just be aware that they may need to replace them . and I have seen damaged boards that could not be repaired no matter what you tried Flocko

Interesting the variations. The 5081 boards seem more consistent

Only done 2 of this series 50" S & ST30 and been blessed with just IGBTs needing replacement.

does prove the point that seeing all these kits assuming they will automatically fix it is a risk without any technical fault finding.

most kits seem to just have the 30f131, 2 diodes + resistors.

TW that also a good point if you think a kit will fix it all, its not always the case ,I keep a stock of parts for these and other repairs, that as you know I get from overseas to keep costs down, so if its one of these and four of those it does not matter to me , I see some kits are running at over £30 on eBay that would not have all the parts that you may need, but these kits could when fitted clear the common short that is seen on Sn2 for it to fail as soon as you power up the set and as Tom says blowing the SN and back to six blinks Flocko

i now have only Q401,Q402,Q421,Q422 shorted but do i have to also replace R401,402,421,422 ?

                              thanks

The resistors can be checked with your meter if they read ok then no need to change them, I hope you have checked all the diodes (RF1501+RFN10) and the DG302s these don't all ways show as being short they can just be leaky, in most of the boards I have repaired this has been the case, and don't forget IC502 +Q531 these can also be tested you are looking for high Meg ohms for them to be good any low ohm will be bad, take your time replacing all the SMD parts as pads and tracks lift real easy Flocko
Just looked at that video WTF!!if you want to cock it up that's the way to do it should read how to toast your board in one easy lesson ?

Hi Guys. I'm chasing a fault I think I have on the SN Scan recovery H side (6 Flashes). I have replaced Q441, Q421, Q422, Q401 which were short.
I want to replace IC 501 by substitution but what is generic part number? Panasonic part number is COZBZ0001812. The tiny 8 pin SMD has D86 93 NZ printed (possibly 2 characters missing).

Is it possible to scope any of the waveforms or part run the SN board (no SC IGBT's or diodes) with some current limiting?

                                    Re: Panasonic TX-P42S30B - 6 blinks

                                    Good Evening forum,
First post here as a DIY fixer and someone who hates throwing things out. Im a generally a mechanical person with some electrical understanding but always keen to learn.

I have a problem with our Panasonic TX-P42S30B - 6 blinks (green) and I found this forum and corresponding thread.
The TV has been excellent in 11 years of ownership and has a first class picture however it now fails to switch on with the characteristics described at the start of this thread (clicking relay followed by 6 green led blinks). I think the TV may have been switched off on the wall and not on the unit which may or may not have attributed to the cause. This was a change to routine due to percieved power costs when left on standby or not completely isolated.....

I have removed the cover, cleaned the little dust there was inside and looked for obvious signs of stress but found nothing. I tried checking the torque of the earth screws and all generally firm and only having to tighten a few. I have now and focused on the transistors detailed earlier in this thread. I have checked these against the list of results provided by Mike Floutier and the values are very similar so Im guessing its the same failure mode.

Many years ago I would have tackled this myself but now struggling with eyesight and manual dexterity so I was looking for a reccomendation for someone I could send the SN board to for checking to confirm problem and hopefully replacing the defect components.

I'm located South Wales UK so someone local would be great.
                                    Appreciate any advice.

came up with this, check out Williams Television Caerphilly, wonder if that could be your distant cousin or sum such, might be able to get a family discount, lol, maybe just take your boards in and see if they can test or fix them for a reasonable rate: https://www.google.com/search?client...ales+tv+repair

Some testing you can do, be very careful if you do, heed the WARNINGS, there are some voltages in places that can EASILY KILL, warning is for those that may not be aware, safety first: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GFE14ElXz7g
