Wise choice to get the board rather than a new set. I have a S31 here and they are bloody good sets TBH

      Re: Panasonic TX-P42S30B - 6 blinks

Ok I've now installed the new SN board.

I've powered up and get 23 green blinks (with a slight pause on the 20th)

The power does remain on however and the picture comes on which is great re the SN board.

      Two issues though:

      1. Getting some horizontal lines on the screen - presumably I just need to re-seat the appropriate SN RIBBON connector.

      2. I get a message saying that no signal is detected. I expected this at first but having plugged in my RF, HDMI & SCART I was surprised that it's still not detecting a signal.

      Any ideas?

turn off and reseat the connectors that line up with the lines.

Any chance this has been reset back to factory default? either way try a re-tune but it has nothing to do with the SN board fault

That a bad connection onto the SN, Make sure they are seated correctly and no kinks are showing. They can be a pain to get in

Thanks TW, looks like all my channels were erased, I rescanned an now have tv pictures.

When I re-seat each SN ribbon cable, do I need to allow time after switch off +/or disconnect power to SN board between tries?

You need 10 minutes to disconnect SN from the rest of the set, I am not sure if it matters with the ribbons though but better safe than sorry?

Pan ribbons can be a fiddle--They tend to go in with a tiny little click--which allows the ribbon to fit just that little bit further into the socket....

Trouble is--In some cases, you need to use a fair amount of force to get 'em in--which is worrying, as they are so hard to 'grab old of'!

Thanks Newtothis, so I guess that means I need to:

                    1. Wait 10 mins, after switch off, then
                    2. Disconnect power & data inputs to SN,

Or do I disconnect as in 2. Then wait 10 mins? Sorry if this is pedantic but...

Then reseat the screen ribbons, reconnect and check picture.

Thanks Alastair, will try to learn a firm but gentle technique, I guess this may take some perseverance

You don't need to disconnect SN to put the ribbons in, Just if you WERE removing the main power connector from SN to wait 10 minutes to allow discharge.

Just not sure if it makes any difference when connecting the ribbons if you would need to wait. I don't and never caused any issues.

Hi Mike I see the board got to you safe and sound, take your time these can be a pig to get right. turn set off at mains and wait 5mins then reseat, when you can no longer see the gold on the ribbon outside the connector that when they are seated, any gold showing they are not in right, just a thought on the no signal you said you changed the main at first, have you put your old board back in Flocko

Many thanks for the board Flocko and thanks for the fitting advice.

You are so right remembering about my old A (main) board. It is indeed sitting in a box in my study, not sure how I thought the tv would remember it's contents

Ok, I'm about to reseat the SN ribbon cables to try to get rid of the various horizontal blanks in the display.

However, looking at them, they all seem properly inserted; ie no gold bits showing, no kinks.

Are there any other tips? Should I be cleaning the connector or cable contacts in some way?

They can look perfectly seated and still be off. I guarantee anyone who installs an SN board from a Panasonic set will see these lines. It is difficult to get them right, just remove them and reinsert until it looks good. (Turn power off while reseating. For the SN board outputs you should not need to wait for it to discharge.)

Many thanks Tom, that should save time not having to wait 5 mins between tries.

                                      I will perservere.

                                        Ok, going fairly well.

I've got rid of all three instances of entire missing horizontal blocks.

What I'm having trouble with is collections of alternating missing lines, ie I get a single row of pixels followed by a single blank row. This continues, row on, row off, row on etc for most of a block or else just for 12 or so rows.

Are the contacts staggered alternately? Maybe I'm just not reaching the deeper 50%?

That's common. The connections are staggered somewhat.

The trick is to remove the dodgy connection completely then line up the connector so both ends are in the same amount. Insert it in gently, until you get a click, then close the connector.
