Re: Panasonic TX-P42S30B - 6 blinks
Special thanks to TW2005 for your faithful support and for encouraging me in what, with hindsight, was the best course.
Flocko, thanks for your excellent soldering.
Thanks also to Alastair E and others for chipping in.

Re: Panasonic TX-P42S30B - 6 blinks
Thanks Tom, my word it does take some doing but I have finally got a full clean picture.
Very many thanks to you all for your help and support and hardware.
There is no way I'd have even taken the back off (a first for me) without you guys.

Re: Panasonic TX-P42S30B - 6 blinks
Ok, going fairly well.
I've got rid of all three instances of entire missing horizontal blocks.
What I'm having trouble with is collections of alternating missing lines, ie I get a single row of pixels followed by a single blank row. This continues, row on, row off, row on etc for most of a block or else just for 12 or so rows.
Are the contacts staggered alternately? Maybe I'm just not reaching the deeper 50%?

Re: Panasonic TX-P42S30B - 6 blinks
Many thanks Tom, that should save time not having to wait 5 mins between tries.
I will perservere.

Re: Panasonic TX-P42S30B - 6 blinks
Ok, I'm about to reseat the SN ribbon cables to try to get rid of the various horizontal blanks in the display.
However, looking at them, they all seem properly inserted; ie no gold bits showing, no kinks.
Are there any other tips? Should I be cleaning the connector or cable contacts in some way?

Re: Panasonic TX-P42S30B - 6 blinks
Many thanks for the board Flocko and thanks for the fitting advice.
You are so right remembering about my old A (main) board. It is indeed sitting in a box in my study, not sure how I thought the tv would remember it's contents

Thanks Alastair, will try to learn a firm but gentle technique, I guess this may take some perseverance

Re: Panasonic TX-P42S30B - 6 blinks
Thanks Newtothis, so I guess that means I need to:
1. Wait 10 mins, after switch off, then
2. Disconnect power & data inputs to SN,
Or do I disconnect as in 2. Then wait 10 mins? Sorry if this is pedantic but...
Then reseat the screen ribbons, reconnect and check picture.

Re: Panasonic TX-P42S30B - 6 blinks
Thanks TW, looks like all my channels were erased, I rescanned an now have tv pictures.
When I re-seat each SN ribbon cable, do I need to allow time after switch off +/or disconnect power to SN board between tries?

Re: Panasonic TX-P42S30B - 6 blinks
Ok I've now installed the new SN board.
I've powered up and get 23 green blinks (with a slight pause on the 20th)
The power does remain on however and the picture comes on which is great re the SN board.
Two issues though:
1. Getting some horizontal lines on the screen - presumably I just need to re-seat the appropriate SN RIBBON connector.
2. I get a message saying that no signal is detected. I expected this at first but having plugged in my RF, HDMI & SCART I was...

Re: Panasonic TX-P42S30B - 6 blinks
Just about to remove the SN board and realised that it contains 250v caps.
I've bought a couple of 2.2k ohm 5w resistors for discharging and understand that I should hold them with insulated pliers.
What I'm not sure about is how to tell that they are discharged properly.
Can I use my analogue multimeter on the caps terminals? If so, what setting should I use?...

Thanks TW, and for the other later comments, I think pro refurbing sounds sensible....

Re: Panasonic TX-P42S30B - 6 blinks
Many thanks for all your time and help with this TW, it's really helped me to think it through; much appreciated!
I'm going to ponder a while and either get the SN refurbed or bite the bullet and get a new LED tv....

Interesting, it does sound as if I might do more harm than good, given the various different possible pitfalls.
