    Re: Panasonic TX-P42S30B - 6 blinks

    The blinking is always green.

    Have taken resistance readings on six suggested IGBTs.

    Will post results ASAP, driving present

        He is a whippet they're very clever.

        I took the readings at home but too complicated to dictate on phone.

          Ok I've added a pic of the board with the IGBTs noted but can't see how to post it, any ideas?

            I don't understand the question? That word BAD pointing to SN2 is that what you put there?

              I can see the photo.
              For future reference if you add it using manage attachements it will appear below the post.

                Ok, it's there somehow.

                Starting with the IGBT marked with a white X at the top left of the photo, I will work around them in a clockwise direction.

                I'm not sure of the correct protocol to describe each pair so I will define my own scheme:

                Looking at the board on the TV, ie vertically unlike the photo, I have named the contacts from top down "A", "B" & "C".

                Each of the three pairs tested I have numbered:

                1 = AB
                2 = AC
                3 = BC

                OK, starting at the top left of the pic, all readings in Ohms:

                1 16
                2 0
                3 16

                1 0
                2 0
                3 0

                1 8.5
                2 8.5
                3 0

                1 9
                2 9
                3 0

                1 11k
                2 100k
                3 2k

                1 11k
                2 100k
                3 2k

                I hope this makes sense

                  No, it was on the original board, odd as it's a new TV, never worked on, afaik

                      Well, if all 6 of those are IGBTs and your quoting actual resistance with those smaller readings as ohms it makes sense as it looks like 4 are shorted and that fits in with the traditional way these fail

                          Before you start to pull the board apart, you must be aware that for a successful repair of these boards you may also have to replace IC502 and Q531 the very small SMD components to the left of the IGBTs you have marked, please look at these with a view to replacing them, if you do not feel confident replacing these do not attempt the repair, as these boards are hard to come by. and I for one would not take a damaged board in exchange for one that shows damage, We have seen a lot of damaged board on here were they have attempted repairs for them to go wrong Flocko

                            Almost sounds like you want to take on the board repair for him

                              Haha, ok just been checking that the Shorted IGBTs are all 30F131 (which they are) and noticed that the "BAD" -> wasn't there. It's just on the ShopJimmy pic highlighting the likely culprits. My board is clean; sorry for muddying the water

                                Thanks Flocko, I've looked at those two and they are indeed very small. I have no experience in this area so even replacing the 30F131s is a challenge for me. I can't see any way that I would attempt the smaller components.

                                  i was wondering if you had used a stock image. Otherwise someone has hijacked your good board under the cover of darkness whilst you were watching the Tv. LOL.

                                    Do you think I should go ahead and replace these four 30F131s and see what happens?

                                    Would I need de-soldering stuff? Also, are there any other precautions I should take, like discharging caps?

                                        Yes but not with electronic parts. I'm pretty good with my hands.
