Re: Samsung PS-42S4H flashing pixelated screen

Right I'm back hahaha had to put this on the back burner for a bit while I had some other jobs on so now that ive come back ive decided mayb its best I bite the bullet and just buy some known working upper and lower buffer boards.

Now my next issue is ive found plenty of upper and lower buffer board that I can get but ive notice my board revisions seem to be different to the replacements that I can find that's available. The black Teco connector that joins the upper and lower buffer board to the y drive boards appears to be the only difference that I can see physically.

so if i was to buy an upper and lower buffer board with a different board revision, but has the same part and model number of the boards i have, will i have to also buy the same Y drive board with the same revision that has the same connectors? how does this work? are all revisions compatible even tho they can come from a different model plasma?

I'm looking at these: (pics for eg only, mine is the 1st attachment)

Re: Samsung PS-42S4H flashing pixelated screen

OK finally got both replacement parts from separate sellers in which one buffer (the top buffer board) was a suppose a re-manufactured board that was never fitted with a later revision and the other which I was having a harder time to find was supposed to be from a working TV with the same revision as my originals.

Anyways installed them both I can confirm board revisions seem to have no effect being different and I can cut those 3 small tabs off from the later revisions and use my own Y drive board with it.

Well baby steps I guess its almost fixed with these results:

Now as u can see the bottom buffer is not totally good I noticed a bit like my other original buffer boards, the IC's (with heat sinks attached) get a little hot much like the original buffer boards did but the top buffer boards IC's I could barely feel any heat from the heat sinks so my guess even tho there is no shorts, these IC's can still be faulty in some way.

Can caps on the buffer boards create these IC's to get warm/hot if they are going bad?

I'm guessing my only hope is to find a known and seen working lower buffer board?

Re: Samsung PS-42S4H flashing pixelated screen

Finally got this other replacement lower buffer board here and in but I now face this issue with this buffer board?

1 solid black line across the screen, picture is prefect otherwise and all IC's on the board don't get warm to touch like the top buffer board, So the IC's must be good but is it now a pin or trace on the bottom ribbon connector not making good contact or something?? or just another faulty buffer board?

I'm now looking back at the ad where I got this from and the shown working photos are these:

would I actually see a black line on a black screen that's shown in the pic? I hope this is an issue I have and not the buffer and is just a sneaky way of fobbing them off as working?

Black line can be a panel fault or a buffer fault, but in most cases it is a panel fault which wouldn't be repairable. Sorry.

Wouldn't the black line show up on the other lower buffer boards I've tried so far as well if it's a bad panel? i mean you can see previous pics to see if the same black line is present and its not.

Question on the black line tho does each horizontal line represent each trace on the ribbon cable? Since its broken up into 3 sections on the bottom i should be able to narrow down if it's a bad trace or something on the ribbon connectors or even buffer board? Or is it just not that simple?

Yes, the black line should have shown up before if it was a panel fault. Can you try the old boards to confirm you did not damage a ribbon while installing the boards? If there's no line, then I guess the board(s) are bad.

Each display line has one trace associated with it on the flex and PCB. The purpose of the buffer boards is to switch a row select voltage on to each line sequentially, programming the panel. So each trace must be distinct to keep each line showing different data. (X-main/Z-sustain drives panel with common signal, hence one large "fat" trace instead.)

Re: Samsung PS-42S4H flashing pixelated screen

WOOHHOOOO fixed my 1st TV haha from persistence I managed to get rid of that black line. I tried the other buffer boards I had, it was hard to sport the black line on these but I think it was present but I'm not 100% sure as the display from these were fairly blotchy like u can see in previous pics but I think it was present.

So I tried to narrow it down by taking 1 connector off at a time and I found the middle connector from the lower buffer board must have been the culprit. when I plugged it back in and unplugged the 3rd lower connector that line actually worked which I found strange, it was kind of like the bottom traces of the middle connector and top traces of the bottom connector must connect in some way? mayb I'm talking BS? but that black line did show colour but when both connectors were connected the circuit is not complete giving me the black line.

So I thought i'll reflow the bottom 8 left and right sides pins of the ribbons connector and the top 8 of the same pins on the very bottom ribbon connector as surely 1 of these would be the culprit for the black line if there is a break in the line somewhere.

Plugged the buffer board back in and what do u know? NO BLACK LINE woohoo

I must thanks every one in this thread that shared their input as I wouldn't have learnt as much as I did and been able to do any of it with out the help and guidance that was given so much appreciated guys

Total cost to fix this TV in the end was only $72 US which I think was like $100 AUD and that was only for the lower buffer board. The top buffer board I did pay $43 US ($60 AUD) but this was refunded in full as I was sent the wrong revision that I originally purchased, which now I think I got lucky as I didn't know at the time the revisions don't matter.

Just noticed something I'm not sure if its normal or not, I didn't pick up on this on the super marios screen before but on the blue screens looking back before I can see now I had the same issue present. I haven't used this TV really since the repair.

There's 1 red vertical line right on the right hand side panels edge, I assumed this was normal when I was originally working on it and thought from the close up angle I was looking at I thought the TV's frame would cover this and thought nothing of it but only now that ive gone to watch a movie on this TV I saw this and its not a constant red line.

is this something I need to be concerned about?

On this PC I have already changed the complete palmrest because the keyboard was no longer working properly.

I also changed the screen because the PC fell and the screen was broken.

I changed the battery with a new and original battery.

Hello everyone, I’ve just been given a Samsung UE55JU6800K smart tv as it had white spots on the screen due to the led lenses falling off. After refitting them & putting the tv back together I thought it was a nice easy fix for a free bedroom tv , then I tried it before screwing the back into place. I realised that the right side of the screen was darker than the other side, I removed the screen again as I thought the backlights had failed but they are fine.
I put the screen back in place & turned it back on . The screen seemed to be ok again but different screens on the same...

Hi , I've recently replaced the screen in my Samsung galaxy ao2s, at first it wouldn't even turn on, it had the charging symbol on the screen when plugged in but the green circle wasn't going around to show it charging....
Ive eventually managed to get it on and working but it's very temperamental...

The battery icon always reads as 50% , when the phone goes into lock screen mode i sometimes can't get the screen back on unless I plug the charger in to get it to light up, also it keeps putting the camera app on.. u think it could be something to do with the side buttons. ...

Samsung UN55J6200AFXZA Splash Screen Comes up, goes out, screen flashes one time and then tv won't turn off.
No picture. No sound that I can tell. Backlights are on and have been checked. Flashlight test no image on screen. I replaced the Eprom chip hoping that was the problem but nothing changed.
                                    Please help. Thanks in advance!

Samsung LH82QENELGC/EN Help needed - Static line on screen
                                    by Kiberge
                                    HI guys!

I've got a Samsung LH82QENELGC/EN with a problem and need some advice and I hope this is the forum to use?
I'm from Norway so I'd like to apology in advance if my description of the fault is kind of simple or the names on the components are way off. 😊

the TV is powering up, working as normally and picture is all good, except a 1.5-inch-wide vertical line of snow/static across the screen.

This TV is a Signage Display/Public Display version and it's been used at my work for 4-5 years showing commercials 24/7. The fault occurred when...
