Toshiba 46TL963 no back lights - LED strip burnt

HI all got this set with faulty back lights

when i bought it when first turned on it worked fine for about 20 min the the back light would flicker and go off. You could still hear sound and see image with a light

so went inside for a look and re seated all cables after finding nothing obvious

then tested again and the set worked for over 2 hours then went off again - no flashing tho this time

since then backlights have been off completely

after reading these sets suffer from LEDs burning out so i stripped to check and found a single LED giving a strange reading on my meter and the cable connector slightly burnt

so suspect LED was on its way and after the 2 hour run burnt out completely

can you replace the LEDs if so where do you get them?

iv tried getting the backights but cant find any LJ64-03495A LJ07-00998A also cant find a broken set

Shame that you've had no reply. I have the identical model with same fault. as you've discovered it seems almost impossible to get the LED strips for this TV. I also understand that its not possible to bypass the faulty single LED.
If someone know differently I would be grateful for a reply.

I do not know what kind of LED strip you have, edge lit or backlit. You can bypass them using Diodes.

Not at all, just put 5 1N40O7 in series to simulate white LED Vf (about 3V) if you do have the room inside the panel.

The chances of that working are very little as the tv will monitor the current and bridging it will more than likely cause a change is the current use causing the tv to shutdown the backlights.

                  This LEDs are not available?
Why not buy the LED and replace it?
I currently have a 46" Toshiba as well, that runs for over an hour and than goes out the backlight, sound continues to work.
This, sounds like an LED problem, not really right? Probably the LED driver has some issue. I did not have time to open it, yet.

Problem is knowing what LED to use (Color, Brightness, Current limit etc etc etc)

cant tell you a dammed thing without pics of the leds.
many can be replaced.i just replaced all 200 in a samsung.
they were 5630.others are common 3535.

                          Hi guys

Still have it in pieces waiting to find a broken set - ( proving difficult lol )

While iv been looking i have come across many of this exact set with the same problems - im sure some one must have fixed one

Now stripped it down and found that there's no room to be able to bypass with 5 string of IN4700. Its an edge lit type with 64 LEDs in the run. When tested found only 1 that had failed. It was mentioned earlier in this thread by someone that he had successfully bridged the faulty LED once removed (incidentally difficult to desolder had to use smd rework station) with solder and that it was still working. As a matter of interest I tried it but as was expected the LED driver board shut it straight back off again. The only way this can be repaired is by replacing the faulty LED which looks like 5630 type. I have had to order some but should get them tomorrow. Will report back whether replacement of the LED is successful but can see no reason why it shouldn't be.

Wires and move the diodes where there is room?

I take your point could pass the wires back through the hole for cables from led driver board to led strip and place the 5xIN4007 next to driver board. However replacing the LED if it works I think is the neater way of doing it.

Indeed, LED packages don't have any part numbering unfortunately.

But you might get an LED with a different color temp than the originals, I don't know if that will interfere with the picture or not.

What about bridging the bad LED with an SMD zener diode? Or will that not be flat/thin enough? Has anyone done this with a zener diode before?

Just a follow up on my previous post. Done a number of tests to find the the best solution to get this 64 LED strip to run without LED driver board tripping it off. Soldered wires on to the the faulty removed LED pads to make it easier to try different solutions.
The string of 5 IN4007 was unsuccessful resulting in the usual flash and shutdown.
Tried LED size 5630 and 3535 and although they both worked they were both smaller than the original LED size fitted.
Finally tried a Zener Diode which also worked. Decided the Zener Diode is my preferred option being the perfect size to fit the original LED pads and also runs colder.
Hope this info is of help to others with similar LED backlight failure issues.

That's very interesting. Glad to hear you got it working. What zener diode did you use? I wouldn't think it would run colder than a regular LED.
