    Troubleshooting on TV components

    First off I want to say I am so happy I found this site and this is a wonderful utensil to assist and inform people like myself. I am new to this world and am very excited to learn more about component diagnostics.

    I am wanting to know what is a good multimeter for doing component level testing that has an affordable price point? Also I am fine buying used off EBAY and Amazon, thanks you in advance!

      I can't recommend any particular make or model, but certainly get one that has a good array of probes and crocodile clips. Components are getting so small these days.

          I will recommend a used Fluke 79 or 77. I have been using these for years. They are excellent.

                      The Fluke 77 and 79 are workhorses. Here are the positives and negatives.

                      Positive
                      - 2,000 hour battery life using 9V alkaline battery
                      - simple, easy to use
                      - likely within calibration after 20 or 25 years
                      - reliable

                      Negative
                      - slow continuity speed
                      - range switch could be a bit mushy depending on condition of meter
                      - lacks features compared to its latest versions (like capacitance, min/max/average, etc)

                      The 77 and 79 are good meters, but be careful not to overpay. $30 USD would be the max I would pay.

                                  Affordable is very relative to the person, sorry for leaving out my price range. Also economically priced would have been a better way for me to state that. as far as the $30 range... I would consider that to be very good price wise. Thanks for all the input! this online community is awesome!

                                      Need some help please with a few components on this small board so that I can troubleshoot the circuit.

                                      The PCB is a Single sided board fairly simple circuitry has a +ve and -ve Solar cell power input, a 7.4v 1500mAh (dual 18630 cell) power in which the Solar panel charges the cells, and lastly the Output goes to a DC connector...
                                      J1 is actually 1P1T Switch (in ON position completes Battery cell circuit
                                      J2 - to DC Output
                                      J3 is Battery cell connector

                                      however I am struggling to identify if:
                                      Y1 (SOT-23) are NPN Transistors, MOSFET's or 11v Zener's....

                                      Hi,

                                      I am working on a Surface Laptop GO 3, which is the new release 2024 with a i5-1230U processor. Originally, it had a 256GB SSD, then the owner attempted to upgrade it to 1TB SSD by himself. "Surprisingly", it did not boot afterwards, then changed back to the original SSD, did not boot either.

                                      It turned out to be that just a couple of components had been knocked off when the owner was trying to get off the SSD cover with his beloved screw driver.

                                      I do not have another board of same model. Although I have a Laptop Go 2, the layout of that bit...

                                      Here is the case that i'm trying to solve.

                                      (short intro to explain what happened)

                                      I bought second hand Surface Pro 4 and when I tried to reinstall the Windows it appeared there was the password on UEFI. Seller don't reply anymore. I decided to reflash the UEFI chip to remove the password. So I need to remove the chip from the motherboard first.

                                      I have basic experience of repair tablets and phones, like battery or display change. So i opened the Surface Pro 4 and removed the motherboard successfully.

                                      My Sparkle (SPI) PC power supply has broken. Originally, there was totally no power output. The 5V-standby was not there. I have replaced a few bulged capacitors but not helping.

                                      I was trying to do more troubleshooting but burned more components. Some got burned so badly that the markings were gone. And also, the markings of a few transistors were gone because the component surface was worn out somehow.
                                      If you happened to have disassembled the same PSU model, please help to provide the markings of some of these components.

                                      DJI Mini Pro 3 missing components near camera connector

                                      I have a DJI drone that is not displaying a video feed anymore after a repair.

                                      When tearing down the DJI drone to fix the armature there was some hot glue next to the camera connector that i had to remove.

                                      Now there are missing components either because they got pulled off or because they where never placed.

                                      I have two reference images from XXZ and a photo of mine.

                                      I'm truely hoping someone has another DJI Mini Pro 3 that they can help me identify what these components are and if they are necessary.
