Panasonics Are Out To Get Me TH-42PZ85U 10 Blinks

I am getting a tad paranoid here about Panasonics..

Panasonic TH-42PZ85U just came in. Dusty as all hell..

10 Blinks on the power LED at plug-in..

Got the repair manuals from Tom's site (Thanx Tom!! )...

ƒ Find out if 15V is output at pin 7,8,or 9 of connector P6 of the P board. If no voltage is output, the P board may be defective.
    ƒ
If the F_STB_15V voltage is OK, it's likely that the A board is defective.
    ƒ
Since some of the Sub-voltages generated by the A board are connected to the K, GS, and GH boards, it's also likely that one of these board may cause the unit to shut down and the power LED to blink 10 times.

ƒ Disconnect connector A1/K1 to isolate the K board.

ƒ Disconnect connector A/52GS52 to isolate the GS board.

ƒ Disconnect connector A11/GH11 to isolate the GH board.

The defective board is found when the connector that provides the Sub-voltages to that board is removed and the TV no longer shuts down.

    P6 of the Power Board. Pins 7 & 8 are dead.. 0v Pin 9 shows 5v

    Bad power board??

Ten blinks is usually a PSU issue. I've corrected a few of this era Panasonic: http://youtu.be/LjpGKaBt8hg

Can confirm, done more than 8 of these so far. Great when working, they use a lot of power tho!

I actually saw that exact YouTube when I first googled this.. Coupled with the manuals from Tom's site, it really gave me some good info..

Yea, this one has a buttload of fans.. And where there is fans, there is dust.. Oh my gods, the dust!!

        Replacement Power board is spendy..

Is there a common component in all your repairs??

Thanx to both for the replies..

In one of the Panasonics I repaired about four years ago, I got away with only replacing the cap on the small module, and it's been running fine since. Typically, it's best to replace the chip and the adjacent cap.

Just sold one of these not to long ago, great panel, excellent black levels and like Tom66 said she does suck a bit of wattage!

Did you watch the video? The two modules that house the chips and caps are MC201 and MC301.

Watch the video that Capkid linked. It's usually the same fault on these for 10 or 2 blinks. I can do one in about 45 minutes now. Getting the plastic insulators back in place is a pain in the arse... and don't lose any of the screws on the back of the heatsink plate...

                        Not all the way thru..

It looked like the one in the video is a different set up than this model..

But I'll watch it all the way thru now..

He has the 50", board numbers are the same but the 46" and 50" use bigger PSUs (the same for both) than the 42".

usually every time I get one of these TVs with the MC 301 / 201 usually this is the problem but even if there's other problems with the set I always replace these capacitors just for reliability in the future but yes like everybody else is saying most likely always the 10 flash flash to flash syndrome is from the faulty caps on these boards
Did I leave the soldering iron on?

OK, did a Freeze Spray on MC301 and MC201...

Did not make any difference in the 10 blink error..

Does that mean my error/issue is different??

Did you make sure to spray on the suspect cap? Also make sure to remove the moisture (that condenses from the freeze spray) on the module.

I was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.

Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.

I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.

The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.

With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

                                          Assuming...

Hi, this is my personal laptop, which the original board (lets call it Board A) blew up PU8700 (TPS51486), making a hole on the board, i had left the laptop at my desk one day with the battery fully charged and didn't touch it for a week, but when i tried to turn it on it didn't
Thought the battery was dead, so i plugged in the charger then tried to power on, the power LED blinked once, charged LED still orange, unplugged the charger, plugged in again and I noticed the "magic smoke" smell, so i unplugged the charger, removed the back cover and saw the blown IC (the "magic...

All left and right refers to looking from rear of TV (or looking from front with TV upside down)
                                          • TV came with vertical bars and no image. Found faulty TVS on left buffer board. Also replaced T-Con (may have damaged the original while hot air removing components, board has slight warp) and have full image but few horizontal lines on the screen. Some of the lines appears to be 2 pixel tall while others are 1 pixel tall.
                                          • Disconnecting left and right buffer board potentially reveals problems on both sides with different signals (unless this T-Con require jumper like Samsung FB_TRDY1&3) Fault

                                          Hi there!

I have a Sony Bravia KDL-40Z4500 which shows a colored vertical stripes pattern when turning on, with a central black shadow that slowly dissipates within the first 10 seconds.

Photo of the situation after the black shadow dissipates:

After this behavior the red LED will blink 9 times, then pause for a bit, and blink again 9 times, in a loop.

I checked the manual (available here) and this corresponds to "HFR error", quoting from the manual:

                                          > This indicates HFR Communication error. [ HFR Communication...

                                          Hi There,

This TV was auto switching off after few seconds with some vertical lines on the screen, so got a new TCON board and replaced it.

After replacing the TCON board it was working fine and i set it up with everything, used for few hours, then had the bright idea to update the software on it. During the update process, TV switched off and now no audio or video. No relay switch sound.
