Re: Samsung UN32EH5000FXZA, No Backlight
The more this all starts to fit, the more I think I know what was wrong with the TV that Johnboy got that started this thread. I bet the lights went out in that TV. The previous owner ordered the "substitute" PS, It didn't work because it was not compatible with the light harness. Then it ended up in Johnboy's hands. His photos clearly show the same "665 style" light wiring harness but also that 493 PS substitute.Comment

At any rate, I'm glad yours is working. I am having trouble finding a set of light strips for a reasonable price. Most people on ebay seem to want $40 EACH. A pair is nearly half that from legitimate suppliers, if they were in stock, which they aren't.Comment

Re: Samsung UN32EH5000FXZA, No Backlight
They have offered to let me return my original and second replacements at no cost and will refund all of my money in full. They were really good about it. Thanks to you for your help in confirming my suspicions and giving me a leg to stand on with SJ. I nearly returned it for a loss.
The bad news...I need to find a set of working lights. It seems it might be easier to find Elvis sitting on a beach alive and well than find a set of these lights. There's one set on eBay but it's triple the price of a legit seller.
Thanks again for your help. I certainly learned a lot.Comment

Re: Samsung UN32EH5000FXZA, No Backlight
One strip had 5 or 6 bad lights, the other had 1 bad light for sure. The strip with one bad light glowed very dimly, the strip with multiple bad lights glowed brighter. None were anywhere near what they should be.Comment

Can you do the diode test to see what it shows on the meter, 3,xV or 6.xV on the meter?

Re: Samsung UN32EH5000FXZA, No Backlight
The top strip (fed by pins 1 and 2) has 6 or 7 lights out (out of 12), and they are very dim. The bottom strip has only 1 light out and the other 11 are much brighter than the first strip. Neither is anywhere close to operating brightness.
I saw someone selling individual lights they harvested from Samsung strips by cutting the strips into pieces, along with "easy" installation instructions. Sounds interesting. I might be able to salvage at least the strip with one light out, but I've been down the road of trying to make the wrong parts work. Not sure I have the stomach or funds to throw away if I can't get the "patch" lights to work.Comment

Re: Samsung UN32EH5000FXZA, No Backlight
The good news is that ShopJimmy confirmed that the 493 board is NOT a valid substitute for the 665 board. When I pointed out my troubles, they investigated and profusely apologized for the mix-up. They said they have had that listed as an alternate for a long time and until now, nobody brought it to their attention. Their techs confirmed it would not work, at least, not without modification. Their web site has been adjusted accordingly.

Re: Samsung UN32EH5000FXZA, No Backlight
We need to find out for sure what kind of LEDs are being used on these strip, Single or Dual-LED in one package., If it is single then the replacement strip will be easy to get and then you can cut them to size as needed..
The reason I think they may be dual LED is that you have 24 LEDs bodies connected in series, each LED is 6V (DUAL LED in one packgae), so 6 x 24 = 144VDC which is slightly less than what your power supply is putting out so it makes more sense now.Last edited by budm; 01-08-2016, 04:38 PM.Never stop learning

Re: Samsung UN32EH5000FXZA, No Backlight
You have to scrape off the white paint off the copper trace to get to make contact with the LED.
If you can take really good close up pictures of the LED close to the connector then I may be able to tell you where to scrape the paint off.Never stop learning

Re: Samsung UN32EH5000FXZA, No Backlight
Thought I'd post a follow up. I FINALLY fixed the TV. ShopJimmy.com investigated and realized that they mistakenly indicated the power supply they sold me as a compatible substitute. It was not. They refunded all my money and even paid the return shipping for me. That's quality customer service.
I waited for 2 months to get the correct LED strips for this model but finally lucked out when they showed up on eBay. My original power supply was fine. The TV works GREAT! I've been careful to turn down the Backlight and Brightness values to as low as I can but still view comfortably. Hopefully I can nurse this replacement set along for many years. If necessary, I've got the old strips to cannibalize, thanks to your excellent repair info Budm. Thanks.
One last problem - It was so long since I disassembled it, I forgot the specific orientation of the white plastic layers under the LCD. The thick heavy white plastic has a pebbled surface on one side, and smoother on the other. Which side should go towards the lights? Then comes a thin layer with a pearlescent side. I think the silvery pearl side goes goes towards the lights, but if anyone knows for sure, let me know.Comment

Re: Samsung UN32EH5000FXZA, No Backlight
Order of the panel layers....
I found a video on YouTube that gave me a clue. I swapped my layers around and it looks much better, no more shadows of the backlights showing through when an all white picture is displayed.
Correct order is to put the thick white plastic layer closest to the lights, then the thin film sheet (silvery side towards the light), then the lcd panel.Comment

Re: Samsung UN32EH5000FXZA, No Backlight
Hello everyone, I am trying to rescue my Samsung UN32EH5300 TV. I also have a problem with my power supply BN44-00665A.
Initially, I thought it was the LED strips, so I bought them and replaced them. When I tried to turn on the TV, it just turned on, and the screen stayed black (Picture 1). Checking the voltages, I determined that the problem was in the power supply.
Without connecting the LED strips, the outputs 1D+, 2S-, 4S+ and 5D- (Photo 2) give me the following voltages 129.2, 0, 0, 0, and 0 VDC respectively, with the TV off, when I turn on the TV the voltages change to 175, 0, 0, 0, 0 (1D+, 2S-, 4S+ and 5D-). With the LED strips disconnected, the TV works correctly.
When I connect the strips again, the screen goes black, and the TV menus do not work. The voltages, in this case, are 86, 46, 46, and 7 VDC (1D+, 2S-, 4S+, and 5D-).
For the moment, I have the LED strips disconnected so that they are not damaged. Could someone guide me to solve my problem?Comment

Hi everyone!
Hope you're all having a great day, and thank you very much for stopping by and taking the time to read this post to help me with my parents' Samsung TV.
My issue: No backlight.
Model: QE82Q70RAT
Type No: QE82Q70RAT
The TV was already serviced by Samsung once under warranty for the exact same issue, but six months after the fix, the backlight went out again. Now, Samsung is asking for nearly the same price as a brand new TV to fix this with the same 6-month guarantee.
So hopefully, I can fix this cheaper.

by howardc64TV was fixed just after removing Samsung's rear snap cover.
This curved TV's construction is rather interesting. When the snapped on back is removed, rest of the TV will relax the curvature. Top of LCD panel is loose as it wants to straighten out against the slightly curved bezel. Snapped back provide most of the curvature shape. So just simple disassembly of rear cover will allow the rest of the TV frame to relax its curvature. Thats probably what fixed it but no idea which connection. 4x LEDs are edge lit.
Maybe PSU->backlight connector didn't have a good contact?...07-23-2025, 12:34 AM - Loading...
