He has Diode setting on his meter - just hasnt realised it - it is the same as
ohms sign /]))))) beep? -triangleI- diode

this is from another post of toms have you checked this?
Do you think it will be possible to probe the AC_DET pin? You may need a piece of wire. Attach the wire to the red probe on your multimeter, and stick the wire on the AC_DET pin. Place the black probe in an exposed screw hole (e.g., for the wall mount.) Set your meter to the 20V DC range and move the probe to the volts/ohms jack. Then plug the TV in. You should measure either 3V or 5V. If it drops to zero during the clicking, you have a very common problem with LG plasmas which is easily fixed

have you also checked you have 5v stby?

Did you test all the pins on the top two connectors with the VA & VS did you use the
panel ground tabs for the black lead - try again with a screw in.

Next locate where the parts are in Vinces repair pack - you have tested the two white
resistors are those the two resistors in the pack you also tested the fuse the fuse -
so can you find and test the diode.
Can you read the part number on the IC301

Yes - check all the pins on there black lead on that ground tab but put a screw in it to the frame first
here are meter instructions and data for ic301 which is part of the pfc circuit so think it may be ok as well

Off to bed soon so Goodnight

Yea, I gotta go get the wife from work..

I checked the IC301 in diode mode.. All pins showed 0L. According to the PDF you sent (Thanx ) that means it's "open".. Dunno if that is good or not..

I'll jump back on here first thing in the morning.. 0800hrs Florida time which should be around 1300hrs your time..

Thanx to you and to Vince for all the help.. I am learning a ton!!

I would wait and hopefully a plasma expert will come and chime in with ideas what to check next so far all your tests are ok im running out of ideas i suppose a lightening strike could of caused a power surge or also traveled down airel lead if connected so could be mainboard?.

i wonder if this kit will sort it?
kit contained 1 fuse (F302), 1 diode (D304) , two power resistors (R927, R929) and the IC301 voltage regulator IC.(found on another post)
Ohhhh! that is not the diode - hope you havent killed it.

Diode is at D304 IC is at IC301

Hopefully he didnt have the set plugged in when testing that on diode mode.

I did not have the set plugged in. Whew!!!

I thought that was a funny looking diode!! hehehehe

I was thinking this is a pretty straightforward issue and not requiring a scope..

                        Maybe I was wrong! {hope hope}

Re: LG Plasma 50PK540 Lightning Victim LED Light Relay Clicks On Plug In Nothing Else

As soon as I got to bed thought of something else but damned if I can remember what it was!! I should have said sooner I know virtually nothing about plasma sets - more at home with monitors & small tvs but I figure a power supply is a power supply so happy to look at basic stuff but we really need input from a plasmatition.
Anyway when you did the AC test on the two Bridges and I said/thought "why" we have
400v at the caps I am now wondering if you checked the DC on the outer pins on both
as one might feed part of the board and the other might feed the part that sends power
                          to the VS/VA sockets.
That brings me back to this:
Did you test all the pins on the top two connectors with the VA & VS pins on anddid you use the panel ground tabs for the black lead - try again with a screw in to connect it to the frame.

On the BRs, I checked both of them, both sets (outer at DC, inner at AC) and they gave me the same readings..

On the VS/VA, I don't think I checked ALL the VA and VS pins.. and I did use both a GND pin on the connector and a screw connected to the ground tab and the frame..

I'll check that when I get to the shop in about 2 hours...

I also noticed that there are VS and VA pads right below one of the power connectors. I assume that is to facilitate checking of voltages.. I'll check those as well..

                            I'll also check the DIODE...

Sorry do you mean each bridge gave the same result or you got the same result on AC pins as DC pins?

On both, the DC voltage was all over the map from 120v to 170v and the AC voltage was dead.. No voltage at all...

I am not sure you are using your meter correctly-

Can you read the bit in the manaual where it is headed Measuring voltage.
Whilst it is autoranging I understand it to say that it defaults to AC on turn on
and you have to use a button to change to DC. Then if you want to go back to test AC you have to press the button again and so on- it does not auto switch from AC to DC

Perhaps test again remembering HIGH voltages

Yep, that's how I did it..

I hit the button to switch it from AC to DC and checked the outer pins.. Then I hit the button again to switch it to AC and checked the inner pins..

I'll confirm it when I get to the shop, but I am pretty sure that's how I set it..

I am assuming that checking the AC voltage, where the + or - probes are is not relevant??

No doesnt matter which way you have the probes on AC
In fact I dont think it matters on DC except it might come up with a minus sign
(That is what my crappy $5 meter does)
