    Sharp Aquos LC-46D64U Help

Hey everyone, I've returned after my first successful Badcaps experience with another broken set. This community was great in helping me diagnose a Vizio about a year ago and this time Im working with a Sharp Aquos LC-46D64U.

Upon plugging the set in, it sounds like one of the relays on the power supply board is powering up, clicking and then nothing happens after that. The power and OPC lights both flash once then the power light flashes once more on its own. My research so far has revealed that this indicates a faulty power supply board.

Not sure if this helps, but if I unplug the main board from the power supply and plug the TV in, the relay on the power board makes no noise at all. No blown caps, all solder joints look good and every connection has been checked. I pulled out my meter and got 5V from BU5V and nothing from PS_ON on the power supply side of the connector leading to the main board.

I snapped some pics of the the whole back and labeled the components for easier identification.

Hopefully I will get some responses tonight as I am headed out of town for the rest of the week tomorrow and wont be able to do any further troubleshooting. Any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks!

PS_ON is given by the main board and if you don't get anything there, than it looks like a main board problem.
I would try forcing on the power supply, to see if the voltages come up and the backlight turns on.

I get a 5v spike from PS_ON when pressing the power button but still no backlight. Green power LED on the front goes solid when pressing the power button but then returns to its error sequence once the button is released. I took a quick video of the noise the relay is making when a)the set is plugged in and b)the power button is pressed. I will attach it later tonight when I get to a computer.

Ok, here's the short clip of what occurs when plugging the set in or pressing the power button. I hope I'm not breaking any forum rules by posting a direct link. If so, I'll be happy to remove it.

I have repaired a 65" and it was the master inverter(right one from the back), though I don't know which board it was, because there are three on each side and I have just swapped all three boards on mine.($40 for all six boards)
Mine it was, a typical two seconds to black.

Is there OPC blinking code on this TV to tell us what the failure mode is?

On my set, the power and opc flash together once and then power flashes by itself. (Both flashes are green) Pauses, then repeats.

My set is blinking the same sequence as Clutch1819. Power and OPC together once and then just power once. Then it repeats.

Budm, I will check voltages at that connector ASAP

                        Alright, voltages on mine are
                        PS ON- 2.1v
                        AC DET- 2.29v
                        BU5 - 5.0v
PNL POW- 0 at power on then has a burst that goes between 2.9-3.2 before it clicks and shuts off.
The 15v is there on the last 2.

I did not download the service manual to look and study the circuits yet, but the B5U, ps_on, 15V are normal.

The twice flashing green led, according to the service manual does indicate a faulty power supply board. There is also a second led, called the opc led which also indicates the status of the power supply. Please report the number of blinks to determine which part of the supply is faulty.

New to all this so im not really sure as how to read those charts. On the first chart, it says power flashes twice and opc flashes. Does each one mean how many time the opc flashes? If so, that means we have a det_10v (pin 57) error? And how would you go about testing that or is it safe to say the power board is bad?

Just got back in town tonight and checked the voltages immediately...

                                OFF
                                PS_ON - 0V
                                AC_DET - 0V
                                PNL-POW - 0V
                                SGND - 0V
                                BU5V - 4.96V
                                SGND - 0V
                                SGND - 0V
                                UR15V - 0V
                                UR15V - 0V

                                When power button is pressed...
                                PS_ON - 5V
                                AC_DET - 0V
                                PNL-POW - 0V
                                SGND - 0V
                                BU5V - 4.96V
                                SGND - 0V
                                SGND - 0V
                                UR15V - 0V
                                UR15V - 0V

That diagram doesnt seem to be much help. Does one cycle constitute when the power and opc flash and then power flashes once more? My continues this pattern forever, there is no break like the digital wave is showing.

After comparing Clutch's voltages Im beginning to think my entire power board is fried

It seems like the main board sends the signal to the power supply to turn on, but nothing happens.
5V PS_ON? Seems high, no? Usually is 3.3V or lower.

It's hard to tell with my meter because it happens so fast. It's a digital meter but has an animated analog needle which jumps to 5V so I was just assuming that's what it was.

Went back and cycled it a multiple times and Im getting 2.35-3V when my meter flashes the value.

On the PNL_POW, after hitting the power button, mine stayed at 0v for about 3-4 seconds then it jumps up to 2.9-3.2 right before it clicks and shuts off. Yours doesn't do something similar?

Nothing. Mine attempts to power up for about half a second before the relay on the power board clicks and it's done.
