    Sharp LC-52LE640U Bad Panel?

I've got a Sharp LC-52LE640U that flashes 5 fast/2 slow. I've finally gotten half of the screen to work perfectly.

When I disconnected the two ribbon cables from the t-con board to the panel, the blinking stopped. I then plugged one cable back in and I got half the screen working great, but the other half is white. When I plug the other one in, it dies and I get the error again.

Is this definitely a bad LCD panel? Is it worth even thinking about repairing it?

    Thanks.

12v panel fail is usually either no 12v to tcon or a blown tcon fuse, the voltages look good.

Try flexing the panel to see if it gets better,or use a hair dryer blown to the t-con ribbon cables. I sounds like a tab bond problem..

I would look at the tabs, to see if there is any damage there(not tab bonding).
I have a Sony, which had the same symptom and I have found blown tab and panel board in the same spot where they touched each other.

If 15V to one of the panel sides is shorted, it could cause a 5-2 code. Bad panel... Maybe worth checking for shorted MLCC on panel which might be fixable.

Well, something's changed... Now, I no longer have the 5/2 blinks. With the one ribbon cable plugged in, I have the left half of the screen working great. When I plug the second cable in, I get an image on both sides, but the whole screen is faint, flickering, and blotchy.

I noticed too, the when the second cable is plugged in, I get a slight buzz from the tcon board.

tom66, would the MLCC you mention be on the driver board?

            Thanks.

If by driver you mean the long PCB which extends along the top of the panel, yes.

Driving a Sharp TCON/panel with a universal main board
                by advant
This thread is about trying to get an Universal Main Board to work with a Sharp TCON and panel.

I have a Sharp LC-46D85UN TV that has had a main board issue. Since this model is from 2009, I am not able to find an exact replacement of the main board. Instead, I decided to see if I can future proof this tv by getting a Universal Main Board (T53U21.2) from China to work with the Sharp TCON (CPWBX4291TPZA) and panel. The universal main board supports a 8 bit dual channel LVDS interface whereas the TCON requires a 10 bit dual channel LVDS input. I have modded the LVDS connector to match...

                Failure Symptom

No picture, just red vertical stripes. Google search shows quite common problem for these recent Vizio M series although red vertical stripe pattern may differ. Some call it "Netflix" boot screen haha.

                Where is the short?

Panel has 4x buffer boards. Quickly found the 1/4 panel buffer board with the problem by selectively disconnecting buffer board flex cables.

Having recently fixed another Vizio with similar symptoms that was a shorted ESD diode array ( link ) Probed the ESD diode array but...

General Questions on the Relationship Between Mainboard, TCON and Panel
                by mmartell
My goal here is to be able to use boards on hand to swap into faulty sets when the faulty board is not obvious.

I will start by asking what is the format of the output from the mainboard and is it generic in any way or does it vary by manufacturer and/or model ?

And as far as I know a tcon and panel must be a matching pair because the timing of the signals and the voltages required to drive the panel are specific to the panel itself. (That may be a blanket statement that isn't true in some cases where the panel creates its own sub-voltages on its panel boards?)...

VIZIO E70-E3 Half picture with half TCON
                by Fly_Among_Stars
                Hi,
                I have a VIZIO E70-E3.
Symptoms: Black screen, no picture, but LED backlights are working.
I probed the power board and voltages are as listed on the board.
                Main board appears fine, too.
I believe the problem is either a bad T-CON board, or connection to LCD, or bad LCD.
There are two separate ribbon cables feeding the LCD.
If both are connected, the screen is black.

If only the ribbon cable that feeds the right side of the screen (when viewed from the front) is disconnected, the left side of the screen shows picture and...

                TCL 49S405 double image
                by howardc64
LCD displays a 2nd image slighty offset vertically. And multiple pairs of black lines along the bottom. Probably common as google "TCL 49S405 double image" pulls up this ifixit post ( link ) with identical ( nearly, but their fault seems to be on the other half of the panel than mine ) problem without solution.

This one looks to be a more difficult to diagnose because most? of TCON seems integrated ( CSOT BGA on buffer baord) into the left panel edge board ( looking from rear of TV) There are 2 buffer boards for each 1/2 of the screen. Main connects to the left buffer board...
