    Insignia ns-42pdp (lg pdp42x30000)

    Hi,
I'm new at this..disabled and bored to death!

I was given a 42" Proscan last month which I got working with replacing 4 capacitors...YAY ME!

Well, now I have an Insignia 42NS-PDP (LG PDP42X30000)...
From just looking I see that a plazma is a different creature than the LCD/LED...

I don't see and bad caps so far...so there goes my easy fix!

When plugged in I have the red stand by light on..
Hit the power and it goes to blue..
I can hear humming from the lower end of the Y SUS board..
I have no picture or sound (I may have sound but with nothing showing I just hear the speaker power up)
It will stay on for about 4-5 minutes and then shut itself off..
The small aluminum heat sink on the left side of the Y SUS board gets hot..

I have unplugged both the Y and Z boards from the power board and there is no difference..still no pic.

What should I look for to repair this plazma monster?

Let me say Thanks before hand for any assistance you can guys can give me..

    Dave

In a dark room, can you see a faint glow from the screen when the TV is powered up?

        Nope..nothing at all.

And the green light on the power board never comes on...

Ok, do you have a digital multimeter available?
Start by locating the Vs and Va supplies - check the voltages at those points and compare to the sticker on the back of the plasma panel.
(It will say something like Vs: 195V, Va: 65V, -190 / 150 / N.A. / N.A. / 85... every panel is different so always use YOUR panel sticker and not someone else's!)

On the output connectors, the ones going to the sustain boards. They'll be marked Vs or Va on certain pins. You can press your meter lead against the metal sheath around where the pin and wire connect. You'll also have to connect the common lead (black lead) of your meter to the chassis of the TV - such as a hole in the back of the plasma panel. Compare your vs and va to the sticker on the panel. Use highest available DC volt range (do not use AC range)

Hello, I'm new to the group and to trying to repair a LCD TV. During the past few years, I've been collecting/repairing/restoring vintage personal computers (Commodore, Apple II, Atari, TRS-80, Texas Instruments, and Timex Sinclair). This has been my retirement hobby. Now I've gotten interested in trying to repair a LCD TV that I have and used regularly when working on vintage computers.

The LCD I'm working on is a Insignia NS-LCD019. I've downloaded the service manual that I could find, but it must be a different revision since not too many items in the service manual match the TV...

Eventually discovered a burn mark near lower corner of LCD. Here is a summary
                                          • Backlight on, no image
                                          • Disconnect right buffer board (view from front), left side display comes on
                                          • Masked off pin 7+8 (both ~12,5v on both left and right buffer board) from t-con to right buffer board (view from front) display works but have some lines
                                          • Buffer board is pretty simple
Removed the front bezel to examine edge of the glass. Found burn mark on lower right (view from front). Plastic bezel covering the burn mark region shows heat signature on the inside surface facing the LCD panel. Last 2 pics. Bright...

                                          Insignia NS-32L430A11 backlight issue
                                          by arnard
I have a weird backlight issue on the above Insignia Plasma that I am coming up empty on researching.

The display is darker on the left than on the right side of the screen. It uses 4 U shaped plasma tubes. I have had it apart deep enough to tell you that the tubes are bright as they should be at the electrode ends but dim as they get to and go around the bend.

Since it is all 4 tubes it seems like it would be an inverter/backlight board but obviously can't be a blown up component as it does still somewhat work. I'm thinking low voltage but no idea where to go beyond...
