I know there have been a couple of these. I'm not the best tech, as someone said I'm more of a youtube-repairman ;p
However, I picked this TV up that was going to be recycled. I've repaired a PSU on a Samsung a couple of times by soldering some new caps to replace some blown ones. However, I'm trying to boil down to what component maybe the issue. Initially after some google searching I thought it maybe the TCON. I picked one up on ebay and it's on it's way. However I did a little more troubleshooting...
I plugged my laptop and an ethernet cable into the eth jack. The lights on the eth jack flickered just fine. I also plugged my laptop in HDMI. The laptop recognized it and downloaded some drivers. However, the laptop could never really stay in LCD+HDMI. It kept attempting to then would switch back to LCD. back and forth, TV didn't do anything. When I push the vol/ch/menu buttons nothing really happens either. I guess there is a little LED in the lower right hand corner that may or may not blink when you press the buttons.
So, even though the mainboard is getting power and is some what functional... it doesn't appear to be... fully functional. Unless somehow this could be caused by a faulty TCON board but I'm not really sure if that makes sense...
I have a multimeter on the way tomorrow I can test the PSU with. However my experiences in the past with PSU's generally if they're going bad the TV may light up and show the power LED, but will click back and forth when trying to turn on.
Any opinions or troubleshooting Tips? Should I just wait for the meter reads and the TCON to come in Monday? Or should I just drop the money on the mainboard now if it's evident the mainboard is the suspect?
I left the TCON out of the picture as ones on the way, plus nothing out of the ordinary really stood out on it.
Thanks!
