    LG 42LD560 - Worth fixing?

    Hey guys,
So glad I found this forum.

I have recently acquired the LG 42LD560 LCD TV for cheap. I thought that it may be fixable, but not so sure after all that is not working on it.

    The good:
    - Powers on and off fine,
    - Initial screen displaying LG logo and time (to be set) looks perfectly fine,
    - Backlight seems to work fine
    - Able to navigate through menus fine

    The bad:
    - After the initial screen, the screen dims a bit and flickers constantly,
    - Tuner won't recognise any channels when auto-tuning so no channels,
    - When plugging in a source (DVD, bluray etc) it just gives me the rotating cube of 'no signal',
    - Speakers sometimes emit intermittent tapping sound

As the previous owner described it, one day when they turned on the TV to watch their Foxtel, (pay TV) they said they got the 'no signal' logo, but they could still hear sound. They tried running the auto-tuner on normal DTV, but it didn't find any channels, gave up and went and bought a new TV.

    What I've tried:
    - All capacitors look fine on the power board,
    - Disconnected & reconnected all connections and they all look fine,
    - Factory reset

From all the symptoms, my best guess is that I need a new main board.

    What are all your thoughts?

I had a 550 with bad main board also. Symptoms were different though.
It sounds like a main board problem.

I was quoted $245 for a new main board.

If that is the problem, I won't be going down that road.

That's the direct from LG price. It'll be cheaper to buy the part used (from a scrapped TV). Do you have a digital multimeter available?

Yes I do have a multimeter. Where would I find a scrap TV of this model? Would I just have to patiently wait til one pops up on ebay or something?

Is there a pin legend next to the power board connector which goes off to the main board?

The parts for these TV's are usually available on eBay, just search by EBR or EAX numbers printed on the board.

Yes, but I've read that the EAX number is not always the exact part, but that its better to go off the barcode stuck on there. Is that correct? The number on the main board is EAX61768305(1)

EAX = Assembly number, prefer this number
EBR = Blank PCB number, only use if model # also matches

Re: LG 42LD560 - Worth fixing?

The mainboard is bad. Solder balls under the processor chip have dry jointed. Sometimes it can be coaxed back to life doing a hot oven reflow but the fault will reappear. Shame though, really nice screen to view. My thought is it has a bad thermal design between expansions of the chips versus the pcb. Know of one that has come back doing this, but know of many more that haven't.

                    Faults reported include:
                    - Not booting past the clock image on the screen
                    - Booting to a spinning logo, but non-responsive to anything else
                    - Booting all the way, but then not having any inputs to select from, all options greyed out.
                    - Sitting there flashing the red standby light slowly, no boot at all.

Many reports of failure of this model (reminded me of the reports about HP 2015 printers). LG wiping their hands on this one, lowered the warranty from 3yr to 1yr after 2012 on new purchases (maybe knowing what was coming from units being returned? If not, a pretty good crystal ball was in use).

I have the same problem(55ld650). tried it with a heatgun and in the oven - not working.

red light fading and coming back, but tv doesnt turn on.

Would there be any other way to drive the lcd without the original Mainboard?
I cant find it in stock anywhere.

Do you think leaded-solder reball would help? Or is the die-to-package connection itself bad so only replacing the CPU?

I have similar problem and i can not find any mother bord for it. When i plug the tv the standby light turn on. As soon i press on the power the standby light flash non stop and nothing happen. On the main board there is a small black buton, i guess it's a reset? If i plug it in and press on the small buton the back light turn on but for 0.1 second then shut down again. Any idea?

Re: LG 42LD560 - Worth fixing?

I had few issues with LG 32LD560.

The first one was loss of HDMI picture. I thought it was related to bad cable and left it at that.

The second issue that followed some 6 months later, was related to loss of picture and backlight. The TV would sit there flashing the red standby light slowly, no boot at all. So I opened the TV expecting to see the bulged / leaked capacitors. However, this was not the case - all capacitors were good, and the voltage rails correct once I turned the TV on - however, the TV would just sit there slowly flashing the red standby light.

So, I started looking at the processor board. I removed all the connectors and all the ribbon cables, re-connected - still the same. Then i read about processor and its solder joints drying up. So, I removed the heatsink (carefully, so that the double sided sticky tape can be re-used!!!), and used my heatgun to heat the processor – around 20 seconds at heatgun at low. Then, I pressed the processor down with a screwdriver handle. I placed the hetasink back without any issues. And this fixed the problem !!!!!! In addition to TV turning ON correctly, the HDMI inputs now work as well !!!!

I suppose some care is needed not to burn the processor, but the solder used has very low melting point, so as long as the heat is not applied for more that 15 – 20 seconds – everything should be okay.

I hope others will benefit from my experience. The LCD panel on this TV is of high quality, and the colours are great. We use it in our bedroom and love it.

The whole fault finding, power supply measurements and heatgun fix took less than an hour. I must say at the end that I am experienced DIY-er (check my posts at DIY audio forums…) , but anyone can do this if my instructions are followed correctly.

                                        Cheers,
                                        Nick

I'm currently trying to diagnose and fix my Vizio TV (Model M50-C1). I've tried a number of different basic solutions, but I'm trying to determine if my issue is currently a failing panel, T-Con board, or main board (or something else entirely) and whether or not it is worth my time to fix it. Details of the issue and what I've tried are below as well as why I think it is either a bad panel, T-Con board, or main board.

The Issue: The TV will be on and working fine but after the TV is on for ~5-10 minutes the screen will freeze (with sound continuing) until the TV reboots itself. While...

KDL-60EX500. Comes on fine, sound is fine, backlights come on. Blank screen. Already tried reset POWER/VOL-. Anyone else have this problem? Possibly bad T-Con RUNTK4244ZZ or panel? Could main or power supply cause this? There were 2 blown 560u 35v on power going to backlights but they were still working fine. Thanks for your help.

Dell ATX PSU won’t start, but forcing it works fine?

Got a case of something new weird at work. There is an old 2nd gen Intel i3 in an old “Pizza box” shell that has a small form factor power supply. Unfortunately I forgot to take pictures and model number off it.

Anyway, I get to work and get to look at this computer. Standby LED on the PSU is on, but the computer won't start. Hmm o.k. take the battery out of the main board try again, nothing. O.k. then… unplug the power supply from the main board and put in a full size ATX PSU (yeeeesss! Exact that blown Powerman IP that I fixed a while back), plug it in and the old...

RTX3090 working fine but fans not spinning

Hello guys. I have a problem with a PNY XLR8 GAMING RTX3090 graphics card. The problem is that it displays and works fine, but the fans don't spin at all. The problem occurred when someone else removed the fans in order to clean it and broke one of the fan connectors. He replaced it himself and after that, it wasn't working anymore. I guess he damaged something else in the process. What i have done so far: I found 2 capacitors next to the connector that were in a bad shape, he must have touched them with his tools - they weren't shorted, but i replaced them with similar ones from a similar card....

Asus TUF Gaming F15? Is this worth fixing? PCH WARM

Hi all, I picked up a liquid damaged Asus TUF Gaming F15, does not power on, model FX506HM-HN004T.

Ive gone as far as removing the case and doing a visual check, there is no visible corrision, upon plugging in the power brick a single led light shows that power is plugged in, but no display or fans, the PCH chipset gets warm/hot to the touch, could this mean its not fixable or do I proceed and remove the motherboard completely and check further for shorts etc, failing that should I just take it to a service centre and go from there

what would you do? my skillset is...
