  • Samsung UA55H6400 randon vertical lines

Just a quick question if anyone has seen this before as I'm not sure whether to take this one on as a repair yet. I haven't seen this behaviour before.

There is a Samsung 55H6400 screen (55 inch, 3D panel) that has some stationary vertical lines on it that are not full length. The panel seems undamaged physically and the unit is not suffering any other fault.

Just curious as to what may cause this. Attached are two images of the unit before opening it up....

  • Soniq E48W13A-AU Bad P/Supply

I have a Soniq 48 inch LCD TV Model E48W13A-Au which is suffering from severe heat issues on the P/S in the area of the led drive. The TV tries to wake up from standby, but doesn't get past switching off the red standby led.

Most of the output caps have popped due to the temp coming from two what I think are diodes located under the board (guess which spot!!).

    1) Has anyone seen or dealt with this before?

    2) Does anyone have a Megmeet MP48-QG schematic?

    3) I don't know what the parts underneath actually are, I think diodes, but I cannot...

  • Re: Kdl-70w830b sim in middle of picture after backlight repair

Bow in the sheet or incorrectly positioned sheet. Last time I saw something like this, it turned out there is a slight angle of entry for the leds into the edge of the sheet. The light doesn't seem to bounce it's way through the sheet like it should. The sheet was slightly off centre and it was pressing hard on the leds.

If you can place the sheets flat on a desk, shine a led torch into the edge and see if you still get the same darker area in the middle. You'll have to do this with the lights turned down...

  • Re: SONY XBR-65X850A Won't turn on

Is it me, or does the second power supply board look like an afterthought?

I'm not sure of the three flashes, I've had Sonys do weird codes for various faults. If you just have a multimeter, check the resistance to ground on the power supply pins for the audio and the HDMI switcher. Lately I've seen many HDMI multiplexers short out. I'm not sure they are as safe from static discharges as they should be.

Do you have an oscilliscope? If you do we can check various signals going to the chips on the main board. HDMI multiplexers...

  • Soniq E40W13C-AU Half screen darker shade

Have a 40inch Soniq which is displaying an image with half the screen slightly darker (or maybe the other half is slightly lighter) an example of this is shown in the images. These units have a power supply, mainboard and an integrated tcon on the panel tab board.

Where I live these units were a very popular sale item and there are still loads of them around. I've now recently seen two of these with this fault (more to come). Instead of just binning it, I'd like to get to the bottom of what is happening.

It's something on the integrated TCON or the panel as swapping...

  • Re: LG 42LB5820 TV turns on randomly and whenever it wants !!

Shorted backlight leds. Over-current to the panel from the led driver. Led driver connector on top of power supply board in your photo which has two black wires LED+ and LED-.

If you want to know more or be more sure before a dissassembly, you can test this with one of the backlight testers from ShopJimmy, Amazon or one of the china listings. It should be able to light up the panel for you.

Now the hard part. You need to get to the led strips to either replace all the strips or to find and...

  • Re: TV repair workshop advice please

Just looking around the workshop, this is what I've found works.

Portable (wheeled) trolley with isolation transformer, variac, variable power supply, soldering irons and tools (screw drivers, multimeters, magnets, screw trays, basic PCB cleaning fluid and paper towels).
    --------------------------------------------------------------
Something that can be easily placed next to different benches. I'm finding empty bench space is imperative with these large screens. So only one bench here has permanent electronic shop...

  • Re: Samsung LE40D503F7W LCD TV - RED image, some lines

Looking around I think SM4109 is a multiple output switching regulator chip. Maybe Samsung or AUO manufactured replacement of another chip, an RT9979GQW which was also a rough copy of a MAX17122

I think the ISL24835 is a programmable gamma chip (maybe with dual mode output capability).

PS: (also found another chip SM5101 from the same mob which looks...

  • Re: Samsung LA32B650 standby led flashes after TV on.

Issue was related to TCON. Replacement TCON works fine but original one runs (works) but continues to blink. Obtained a T370HW02 TCON spare (by accident), swapped in and TV is now ok. There are two sizes of that TCON, one that is about 6 inches by 5 and the other 2.5 by 5 inches. Both have the same model number on them. Suspect bad eeprom on first TCON because mainboard is confused about what is read back.

I have found since then by playing around with various panels (frames) and mainboard combinations that the...

  • Re: Samsung LA32B650 standby led flashes after TV on.

    Thankyou for the responses.

The TV was given to me to look at for a women in a retirement home. The aerial connection was broken which didn't take much to do.

She has another no-name rebrand TV at the moment, but it doesn't pickup all of the new free to air channels properly and the son gave me this one to see if it could go. Funny, it's not a case of him being cheap, the room for the TV is limited and it's hard to get a small "branded" TV with good sound here anymore. Easy to get a 50 inch...

  • Samsung LA32B650 standby led flashes after TV on.

I have a small Samsung LA32B650 that operates perfectly, but the standby led just keeps flashing it's startup on/off sequence. Nothing else seems wrong with the TV at all. Image is good, back lights are stable, both the free to air and HDMI inputs work fine, touch panel on the bezel works good.

In an attempt to clear it, I put the TV through a factory reset from the service menu, and that did not clear it either.

Other than this flashing standby led, it's good to go. The are no menu options for the control of the standby led that I can see in the normal menu system...

  • Soniq QSL470 TV No boot - Traced problem

I have a 42 inch high def Soniq QSL470 LCD Tv with a mainboard marked E232205. The board is dead and I am unable to get a schematic for it or a reasonable replacement board. The screen and power supply seem ok so I researched the board and found one of the LM1117s running extremely hot. Its output was feeding a dead short.

Unfortunately, this regulator fed almost 90% of the rest of the board, so by track elimination (cutting), I quickly tracked it down to a shorted SIL9185ACTU part. This is a HDMI switcher, 3 in 1 out. I don't have any in stock and where I live it'd be a month...

  • Re: LG Power Supply LGP32-14PL1 EAX65391401

I have one of these in for repair. Watch out, the schematic looks wrong around the low voltage side of the circuit.

Starting with the feedback opto IC102, the drop resistor should go to one of the DC supplies (usually either the 12v or 24v) to try and regulate them (not just loop back on itself around IC102). The power on switch transistor pull-down diode D203 shouldn't join to the lower side of R204, there should be a diode between T101 and QM201, the coils of the transformer T101 have no earthing and they are wired back...

Check D155 Zener on the Key Unit.

Check the stability of the 5 volt standby regulator (the high voltage switcher).

  • Re: Philips 37PFL5603D/10 Botched TCON repair - but can I fix it?

If the screen just shows white with a dim image, the screen may not be damaged and the board should be repairable. Looking at the repair job, it will probably not be soldered underneath. Soak the pins quickly in acetone, do not scrub hard. Use chipquik to remove it.

Using a small width solder braid, clean the board using along the pad strokes, not across pads to minimise lifting damaged pads further. Avoid any side to side movement when desoldering and cleaning. Inspect the board carefully after cleaning,...

  • Re: What tv brand do you most common repair ?

Learnt something new today. The inter-layer connections in the BGA chips themselves can be faulty. Heating the package only temporarily cures them as well (maybe). Eutectic tin/lead solder bumps.

We've had good results with the BGA problems by not allowing the chips to get that hot again, putting in active cooling. Usually PC video card heatsinks and fans thermally bonded to the processors, especially since the LG 560 and 650 series Tvs.
