I'm still willing to bet this has nothing to do with the tcon board. I would of probably tried a different main board considering I have a few and if not I would have trashed it. Not worth the time investing in such a small TV that resells for maybe 80 to 100.
What leads you to think it's the main board though? The original symptoms of going to black and white stripes after a few minutes? Or the vertical shadow band on the right hand side? I honestly think the band is something happening at the tab bond. Originally I thought it would go away replacing the tcon but I still could see it.

My next method of attack here is going to be to spray the contacts of the new tcon with contact cleaner and try it again. I'll also leave it on for longer and see if it goes to stripes like the original does.

50-55" are my hot sellers 😂 I usually get between 150-180 for them. I just sold a 50" TCL for 160 a couple weeks ago.

Which probably means something wrong with the panel. But I would show MB as diah asks.

Are you saying BGA is the cause of the band, or it's the cause of the lines after a few minutes? Keep in mind the guy I got this from said water dripped into it from his ceiling and after that it showed the lines. That's why I'm looking for corrosion.

I think I know why the replacement isn't working properly. None of the packaging is anti-static, and it obviously goes through X-ray machines at the post office. Perhaps it got EMF damage? It was in a black bubble envelope inside of a regular paper mailing envelope.

              Edit:
I put the new tcon back in after cleaning the contacts with contact cleaner and it's still causing flashing and the black line. Also, the colors polarized (see attached photos). However, it's NOT going to black and white stripes like the original does. It's been on for about 10 minutes and it's still functioning, albeit with flashing and polarized colors.

Edit 2: I checked the bonds and they all look good. No corrosion anywhere. I also checked all smd capacitors on that side of the screen and there are zero shorts to ground.. So if it's a panel issue it's NOT capacitors.

we do response only on what we see from photo and what you wrote.. now first time i read you wrote about water dripped into it.. LOL where this water went .. which part.. only you and the owner know at which corner from the back or front dripped into it !!!!

note the most sensitive parts are the LVDS and ribbon cable.

I believe I mentioned that in the very first post. So far though I have not seen any indication of water ever being inside. No corrosion on any components, no splash or water stains anywhere,, nothing. I HAVE swapped out the ribbons from the tcon to panel from another tv but that made no difference. I don't believe I have a spare lvds cable but I will check later. I'm not sure where to go from here. The band is so light on most colors it's almost not noticable... But on the you can see it quite clearly. I've also noticed a faint pink "fuzz" along the top and side edges, most noticable at the top though. Is this related to the band issue or is it some type of backlight bleed through?

I did manage to get a full refund for the tcon I ordered from eBay. 100% no doubt it's defective. Flashing screen, vertical black line, polarized colors... None of which are present with the original board. So I'm happy I got that $14 back 😊

Your eyes aren't going to find microscopic water damage.

Being that it's a single band always in the same spot it couldn't be anything but the scaler board it the LCD ribbon connecting it, right? I verified the capacitors are not shorted, and upon visual inspection everything looks fine. I really, really expected to find corrosion down there.

That just means at a minimum that small area is bad. I also see a single line vertical on your picture. Unless that's what your talking about

The single black line is only present with the replacement tcon from eBay that I have deemed defective. The below image is what I have now, and part of, the original problem.

Tcons don't give lines like that. I still don't know how you can call it defective when you stuck it in a tv with water damage. I assume your ordering another TCON? I'd love to see what happens

I think maybe you're misunderstanding what's happening here.

Original tcon = perfect image other than this wide translucent band

Replacement tcon = Constant flashing screen, thin black vertical line, polarized colors

I've swapped between them several times now. The results are always the same. The same symptoms always immediately begin when I put the replacement in. They always go away when I swap back to old one.

Water damage is possibly not even a factor. The guy said a dehumidifier hose running across the ceiling dripped into the tv and he thought it went inside because the lines issue I talked about way back in the first post. As I said, I have seen zero indication that water got INSIDE. It may have pooled in the faux vents on the rear cover and he *thought* it got inside 🤷🏼

I hope this clears up any confusion

Edit: and no, I have not ordered another one. I literally just got refunded late last night. At this point I'm not ordering one until I can sort out the wide translucent band. I thought the new tcon may resolve this but unfortunately, and luckily enough it did not but instead had issues of it's own. I see no point in reinvesting ~$15 until I know that it's fully repairable

think about some things... the issue going better day after day during the working on the set and warming up. use hair dryer to blow the MB / SoC and around... T-CON- PSU- panel buffer boards.. to let them absolute dry out

So the tcon are maybe both ok, what you don't consider is that you probably got an incompatible board, indeed surely, i trust the seller, the corrosion is hidden where the cof tabs glues on to the panel pcb, the reason why after certain minutes tcon goes in protect mode is because corrosion means higher resistance, with heat the resistance got higher, very simple, you are throwing other money.. i said previoisly, touch the cofs, it some are very hot and hotter than others you found the damaged one..

See attached photos of both icons.

I checked along the underside of each ribbon on both the LCD side and the scaler side. I did not find any corrosion at all. I also didn't notice any COF getting particularly hot. I will double check these things again next time I go to mess with it.

The cof has not to burn, it is not short circuited, the corrosion has not to be visible, the traces has higher resistance and stop.. the fault is within panel, stop.. do not hope otherwise..

OP. TCON just timing , Panel are slave to T-CON., data when it come correct from MB then T-CON timing them to its slave. as soon Panel display correct image no way its fault. MB always the keys of Data.
