Vizio VX37L. Grey tint to picture

Whole screen is tinted grey evenly. Makes no difference how long TV is on. I am thinking bad cap or SM. What say you?

Gamma IC is a good possibility, could you supply a picture of the T-con board.

Oddly enough, I picked one of these up yesterday. Owner said it was diagnosed as a bad main board. TV can be turned on and off by remote. (Backlight lights up, no picture, with sound) All voltage regulators on the main board test good. I tested the voltages on the Tcon board with both ribbon cables connected to the LCD panel. Vdd voltage goes to almost zero with the R/H ribbon cable connected. Unplug that cable and the voltage goes up to 20+volts and I get half a normal picture on the side of the TV with the other ribbon cable connected. Bad Panel me thinks.

Trying to Revive this old thread that never had a resolution to it.

I have the same model Vizio VX37L HDTV10A with the same or similar issue.

I turn it on and it's perfect for about 1 minute then I get scrolling horizontal white/gray lines for about 30 seconds then the grey/white grows until it covers the entire screen and it's just got a solid white/grey haze over the whole thing. (see pictures in order of progression)

        I'm guessing it's the T-Con Board?

What is the short list of things to test to confirm it's the T-Con Board?

Shopjimmy has them for $25 + shipping so it's cheap to replace the whole board but I want to make sure I'm replacing the correct component before I spend the money and take the time to pull it apart.

It sure looks like bad gamma voltages, upload the pictures of your T-CON board for us to look at.

            Hi Bud,
As requested here is a couple pictures of the T Con board.

If a component is bad on the board, I don't mind just replacing the whole board, I just want to make sure what I'm replacing will fix the issue.

            Thanks

Ok, top left of board, there are about 22 testpoints marked "VGAMA". Test voltage on each of these points. With set powered up & everything connected as normal. We need info like:

              VGAMA1=0.1V
              VGAMA2=1.5V

              etc....

OK, another AUOPTO T-CON with AS15 Gamma ref IC U10.
You can check the DCV of the Gamma Voltage test points VGMA1 ~22 and report the eading each one in sequence.

Re: Vizio VX37L. Grey tint to picture

Ok so here is what I got ONCE it warmed up and the problem began occuring:

                  vgamma --- DC voltage
                  1 - 15.5
                  2 - 15.5
                  3 - 15.7
                  4 - 15.8
                  5 - 15.9
                  6 - 15.9
                  7 - 16.0
                  8 - 16.0
                  9 - 16.0
                  10 -16.3
                  11 -16.3
                  12 - 6.9
                  13 - 6.7
                  14 - 5.0
                  15 - 4.7
                  16 - 4.4
                  17 - 4.0
                  18 - 3.6
                  19 - 3.1
                  20 - 2.4
                  21 - 0.5
                  22 - 0.3

NOW...what I did notice that in the sort period before it warms up and starts acting up the DCV is more in the normal range for numbers 1-11

Here's what I got before it starts acting up:
                  1 - 15.5
                  2 - 15.4
                  3 - 13.6
                  4 - 13.6
                  5 -
                  6 -
                  7 -
                  8 -
                  9 -
                  10 -
                  11 -

Is there another component that could be causing 1-11 to have issues such as this?

                  Thanks

So the fix is to get a new AS15 chip, un-solder all of those legs and solder a new chip back on while keeping all of the legs separated?

Is there a trick to getting it back on while keeping all of the leg circuits separated?

The hardest part TBH is removing it without damaging the board. If you have done that, it's comparatively easy to solder it back on. You use solder wick and/or flux to remove excess solder between pins. Surface tension will hold solder on the correct pins. These boards are pretty rare so if you're not confident in your ability to remove it, I'd get ShopJimmy or some other repair service to fix it.

On Shop Jimmy's website they also give all of these boards as a substitute for the AUO 55.37TO3.021

                            Will these also work with my LCD (Shop jimmy said they would, but does not necessarily mean they are right);

Well I bought a harvested board from tristate module, http://www.tristatemodule.com/
                                $37 shipped

Waited a week, finally got it, installed it, tested the Gammas and they tested in spec, put it all back together and turned it on and here's what I got.

                                Any idea what this is?

Happens on all inputs just like previous issue did.

I screwed something up putting back together or bad something else?

                                Thanks

Not even close to the old one, at least you were able to see the washed out pictures from the old board.
I would recheck all the ribbon cables to make sure they are seated properly, or put the old one back in and see if you still get washed out pictures.

So I think I found the problem.

The main board where the TCon cable connects I removed the tcon cable and looks like I bent the pins and screwed up the holes on the Tcon cable. So I need to pick up another board and t con cable.

I'm in Southern California, 91748, Does anybody have a referral for a good electronics guy who can repair my chip and cable receptor?

                                      Thanks
